Daric, I can't thank you enough for this video. I'm on a budget and found Yamaha bass guitar in a pawn shop for $100. I took a risk and bought it this afternoon, even though it had a buzzing D string. After you mentioned the truss rod, I looked into it and gradually tightened the hex bolt by half a turn. Well, that simple act fixed it beautifully. My bass guitar now sounds like new and I can get back into learning bass. Thank you very much.
Yamaha are good guitars I got three of them.hope learning goes well for you pal
I just found your channel and am pretty stoked. Im coming from playing guitar for years and years. Having a blast, but would like to learn more. Glad I found you.
Thank you! I’ve been having this problem when I was trying to play a small riff, i constantly had that vibrating buzzing sound and I didn’t know how to fix you, turns out I just wasn’t pressing down hard enough, thanks!
My active is very slappy and buzzy when in studio. I switched to passive and much better! Good info! Thanks
Appreciate your video. Very clear and informative. Thanks
Dario thanks so much for sharing your knowledge! God bless...
thabnks for getting to the damn point and not wasting my evening by pretending to be my best friend!
Thanks for the video it helped tremendously!
Thank you! This video was super helpful, had some buzz for a while and now it's gone.
Thank GOD!!! I had kept adjusting the action and the buzz was still there and I was mortified that there was no other way of fixing it!
You can also check how much your neck is bend by just pushin down on the first fret and the fret where your neck connects to your body. Then you can see the difference in the action.
Thanks so much, really helpful! Just got a new bass and I'm getting a lot of buzz on my E and A strings, they both buzz even when played open, I was thinking of trying to raise the action first and see if that fixes it. But so glad I searched the question on YT as now I've found your channel, will deffo be watching more of your videos as I learn bass as you have such a clear and relaxed way of talking. Thanks!
Thank you Daric for the video
Thanks man this was the vid i was looking for!
Thanks! I needed this!
Thanks Daric 👍 very helpful
love your energy and passion brother keep up the good work!! subed🤘
Thanks for the video.
Any Buzz drives me crazy. I like all the notes to Ring-true. I just bought a Sterling Stingray SS-4 and I am so Impressed with the: fit, finish, sound & playability. Low-action & Zero fret-buzz. Killer Bass. oNe LovE from NYC
Thank you for this channel! I just started learning with an electric bass that's been gathering dust in my brother's childhood bedroom for over a decade and this video really alleviated some of my worries about what I might have been doing wrong so far.
Thx Bro for the advice, helped me solve my Bass problem. Definitely subscribed to the channel
I enjoyed the thickness of your bass sound
Mine sometimes buzzes just on certain notes. The A and D string in higher blues scale. The E string at the 3rd fret only. Might just need to barely file a couple of frets, most of the neck sounds superb. Was a ton worse until I messed with action and truss rod, almost perfect now though.
Excellent video
I realized it was because of two reasons: I was plucking the strings way too hard, and because I wasn't pressing down on the neck hard enough :P
but isnt it just a pain in the ass to have to think about how hard to press down when you have everything else to worry about, im just assuming practice will help
Great tips! I agree with liking a little buzz. I have a medium-light touch and I like my action low with the neck dead flat. Mostly I hear it acoustically and through the amp it’s barely audible. The notes don’t fall flat, which is good 😂
I wanna get back to bass practicing and had this buzz issue--never would have tried adjusting the bridge. Thanks!
Thank you!
Great video!
Hey, I don't know if maybe I need to just adjust my truss rod a little more, but I have gone through a series of videos explaining setting up a bass, and the proper string height measurements for it to be right, and I even have my strings set a little higher than need be with the truss rod and the bridge action and I still have fret buzz on higher frets... Not sure what the problem is, unless I would just need to bow the truss rod even more than it is to fix it
ohh this makes sense! I'm a beginner and I can see how my strength wouldn't be enough just yet, I'll do hand exercises and all to work that up :)
Thank you
Man. Thanks so much! And thank you for explaining everything perfectly. I am a drummer who is just getting on bass to experience the full effect of rhythm. Haha. Thanks again.
Thank you for this. Its been 20 years since i picked up a bass, and im right back at the beginning. I thought itll be like picking up a bike again
Good video man
One more I've come across concerns finger picking technique -- instead of picking/pulling the string parallel to the neck, I've seen people who pull the string"upwards/away" from the neck. When you let the string go, it snaps back down and hits a fret... I was actually having the opposite problem whereas I was pulling the string slightly "downward/toward" the neck. When I let go of the string, it had enough vibrational force that went back up and still snapped back and buzzed on a fret... Essentially the same issue but not as loud of a buzz.
Top amo seus vídeos tem ajudado muitas gentes show 👏👏👏👏
Dude thank you so much!
The frets too out can be another reason, Daric? I guess that is my problem! can you talk about that?
Whoa. Great vid. Good news. I just subscribed.
Oh my goodness I didn’t expect pressing down the strings harder to help that much
Can I ask? Does this mean that to play bass, you have to adjust the setup on the bridge, and truss rods to get a unique without a fret buzz or do you have to get a regular medium string gauge to get a unique sound? Please leave a comment on me. Thanks. 😊
can you link me to your tutorial about adjusting the action?
THANK Y9U! THAT DAMN BUZZ HAS BEEN PISSING ME OFF SOOOOOO MUCH FOR MONTHS AND A FEW QUICK ADJUSTMWNTS AND IT IS GONE! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!AA!A!!!!!!!!
This happens to me on the open e or when playing first two frets on E and A
I can't find the follow up video anywhere, I just bought a new bass and my first three strings rattle at the first fret, was looking for answers
I bought a brand new bass for the first time in my life. It appeared that no matter what I was doing I had that buzz. Before you adjust anything, try out a new string or a different brand. It turns out that one of the stock strings to my brand new bass was faulty. I know that because I tried that same string on another bass, and it did the same fret buzz thing. I was so relieved when I found out THAT was the issue. I have never ran into a faulty string in all my years of playing. These other techniques are legit. Thanks for the advice!
Hello friend,
I have a Yamaha entry bass (RBX270J) and my problem i the buzz on the fret that I am making pressure.
I need to make more streght than normal for it not to buzz.
It has new Ernie Ball strings.
What can be the problem?
I like a very low action .. I struggle getting that balance between a butter low action and fret noise (sometimes it's a metallic sound of string on frets...) ... new bass guitar, top of the line Wal Mk1 .. Is my only solution to just raise the action? or can filing down the frets work?
If you have new set of strings that make more buzz but after you play its more it will relaxe after time. When you have set string height you shoulnt have to take the string height anymore otherwise its the neck
I like a little bit of buzz too but i prefer getting it from some beer or whiskey
If only the 2 low strings are buzzing would that eliminate the truss rod issue?
I’m a guitarist but back I’m mid 2000s I bought a bass where on 12 fret you would get a buzz and now I’m revisiting my playing bass again in my older years so I bought another cheap bass off Amazon and guess what 12 fret buzz again on the E A D string but not on the G string so I’m hoping the bridge action will be the solution
Thanks man… seriously thought I was just not strong enough 😂
My action was just really low
I'm fairly new to bass playing and i have a good american made GL L2000 - and i notice the buzz the most when im digital recording direct. if i reduce my finger plucking to absolute minimal energy, i dont get the buzzy artifacts, but as soon as i start playing aggresively, its there. the action seems very low. neck seems good, theres some bow. im definitely fretting hard enough as i played guitar for many years before bass, its not that. cant decide if im "overplaying" (plucking to hard), or the action is too low?
Just another thing I found. The machine heads (the things you twist to tune it) may also be loose and sending that vibration down the strings. Make sure to check them if nothing else works.
got a used bass this week, felt it was time to learn the basics at least. frets buzz along the whole length, varies by string, no matter how hard i press, i'm guessing saddle height. someone had been fiddling with the bridge already, got the e and a saddles swapped, the a buzzed heavy, the e not much, swapped em, now it's everywhere like it should be for an easy fix. intonation on the other hand, if i didn't have a tuner i'd never get it right, i got bad ears for pitch.
I noticed my D string makes this loud ringing, even if I'm just tuning the guitar. Every other string doesn't have this issue
@@Barwani Thanks, I had the same problem with the same exact string, lol!
What about the buzz sound that it makes when i release the pressure from the string?
Hey man . How to fix unbalanced level of the string..
My 1st and 4th strings are louder than the other two
My first and 2nd frets buzz bad and I just received it unsure why it doesn’t look like it’s the truss and it’s only a few frets .
Having come to bass from playing guitar, I find I get fret buzz from my habit of muting strings by lifting my fretting hand/fingers just off the frets to mute the strings. I don't get that buzz on a guitar, but definitely do with the larger strings on bass. Seems like muting a ringing string by lifting off the fret is just a bad idea on bass. Would you agree?
I only get a buzzing sound from my E string’s 8 fret. The rest are fine. What could cause this issue?
Will you cover the subject : ' my neck is not tight enought so it started rolling kinda' ?
Sorry, english is not my mother tongue so i have trouble to say the exact word. The neck is kinda turning in the direction of the strings with the more tensions (the B, E section for exemple) while the other part G and D are not .... twisting ? Is that the word ?
Hey man, I just started playing bass. I bought a Gsmr20 ibanez mikro bass and I'm completely new to this. I have been getting alot of buzz from when I push a string and I strum.
It may need to be set up. You should be able to take it to a local music store for them to do so.
i have this weird issue when when i pluck open strings they buzz but when i adjust action it becomes too high like theres no in between.. is it normal to have a little fretbuzz or is there a way to not have it at all
What do you do when its an open E string that buzzes?
so say for instance as a guitarist would i have to press harder on bass strings than i do on guitar strings
ItsJellyPie, yes, you do have to press harder than a guitar. However, with bass you're rarely pressing more than two strings at a time as opposed to five or six on a guitar, so the overall stress in your hand is less.
i have a buzz coming out of the bass head by the nut and idk how to fix it?
My high e at the fsharp just started buzzing. The temperature has been in the 20’s. I adjusted my bridge a bit but it still buzzed. When the weather gets warmer, will , or should it go away. I never put it in its case. It is always at arms reach. Should I put it in the case in winter? Never had this problem before but I never played everyday before. The guitar is not yet a year old.
It could possibly need a truss rod adjustment and I would also suggest that you leave your bass out of the case for a while on a stand or hanging
Got buzz at 10th fret but only on the a and d string. Weird! Any ideas?
Great video. Informative. To the point. Straight forward. I bet this takes care of 98% of all bass fret buzz horror stories. You demystified truss rod adjustments for me (I find messing with the the truss rod scary) with your simple example of:
a) look straight down the neck to see if it’s bowed
b) attempt little adjustments
c) send it to a luthier if major adjustments are needed.
Sweet. Thank you Sir.
thanks just got one for my sons B day couldnt tune it worth a shit because of the buzzing on open strings lemme find this trust rod
Oh yes, yes I did like it!
Sometimes it’s not trust Rod or saddles . You can have perfect action and have fret noise on one fret . You can pick up your bass as seasons change and fret buzz can pop up at any minute
so i’m confused because i’m not even pressing down on the string and i strum it and it buzzes so how do i fix that
I have that jaguar fender bass
I have so much clacking on my bass. It's insane. It used to have this 3 way eq toggle that broke off and I think it got stuck on the high frequency setting. Everything comes through the amp: every little thump, pop, slight touch of the fret, nail touching the string. It constantly clacks. I can't think of what else could be the problem, and although this isn't my primary instrument, I've played this bass a lot over the last 20 years and I'm pretty sure my technique is at least OK. This is a decent bass ( Ibanez BTB) so the quality of the instrument should't be an issue. Could pick up height make a difference?
It's probably your action and your technique. Not saying you've got bad technique, but there are many different techniques to bass playing and you're most likely using a more aggressive technique than would be needed to get the non-clacking bass guitar tone you're looking for. In order to get there, you'd need to raise the action to at least 2mm, and you have to hit the strings way softer. Try to hit the strings from the sides of the strings, and not the top. The clacking sound comes from your strings hitting your fingerboard every time you pluck a note. Minimizing that, takes time and practice because you've got to play softly, but at the same time have the same control that you get from hitting every note as hard as you can. Compression helps, too.
Hi Daric, what pick ups r in ur bass?
@@daricsbasslessons thank you & thanks for blessing us with your wonderful lessons. You're definitely an inspiration.
I really like your channel :) I don’t get why you do not have more followers.
Im geting buzz on all strings on first fret and then buzz kinda fades away on the second and third anyone know what i can do
I just started playing since Covid and I’m having more fret buzz with my brand new bass as opposed to the older one. Both Squiers. Does a new bass have to be broken in?
Nate Stain
No, instruments don’t need to be broken in. However, they do need to be setup. Most instruments that are for sale in most shops need setup work. If new, they will probably have a high nut and poorly adjusted bridge. If vintage, they may have worn frets, twisted neck ect. A very common issue is high frets, this is remedied by a fret dress, of if lucky sometimes one or two can be addressed without the whole fretboard needing attention.
You can go into Guitar center, pickup a $5000 bass and chances are it could use some setup work. This is not always sloppy manufacturing, there are differences in playing style, so the factory may leave the action high, so the buyer can have it setup to their liking.
My advice is no matter how much the instrument costs, have a luthier give it a once over. Some people will not spend a $100 for setup work on a 200 instrument, I understand it may seem illogical. But, having a instrument setup well can make the difference between progress and just giving up playing, it happens all the time.
What do i do if my fretboard is still buzzing? Is it on the neck?
John Myung does make his bass buzz but he knows proper dynamics. He knows when to buzz and when not too.
What if you have some uneven frets?
That intro alone omg 😳
I love that YET like kid don’t worry about that a couple hand cramps will get u there hehe
I just started playing a few weeks ago and I’m too weak lol
what if i dont have a truss rod? i have an epiphone EB-0 from 2005 and i dont see a truss rod
1 add on to making any adjustments make sure to detune you bass when you make adjustments to your action or truss rod to avoid damaging either or
You tha man D. 🎸🤘
The buzz for me happens at the nut. Like the 1st fret and 2nd fret
Even when I play open there's a buzz. I've been playing guitar for 3 years and I'm not so familiar with bass. Self taught btw so I don't know much about technicality
Then the issue is probably with the truss rod or the action at the bridge as he talked about in the video.
I just got my bass in today, and its got a bad buzz on the 9th fret, 4th string, and its got rough frets. Sucks cause band prac is tomorrow. Def need a full setup
Daric... Soul brotha #1 ✊
I read that as " how to get rid of buzz feed" wishful thinking I guess
Lmao
IKR
i guess I am kind of randomly asking but does anyone know a good place to stream new tv shows online?
@Cassius Kamdyn Try flixzone. You can find it by googling :)
@Tanner Finley definitely, I have been watching on FlixZone for since march myself :)
