Soulless. The Searchers? Animated Dead. The Ink Demon himself is both, because Joey locked him up alone for giving bad publicity, and he just lost it because of cabin fever, and because it's confirmed he has no soul. Not to mention, Norman seems to be rather neutral, only attacking when Henry is either caught in his lights, attacks him, or just touches one of his ink hearts that he collects.

When transformed, I guess we can't call him "insane", but we CAN say he's "unhinged". The sacrificey thing was, admittedly, rather nasty business, I agree, but, if we're going by what he says, it's because he wants to regain his human body. Yes, sacrificing was just wrong, but chances are, considering what he says when he examines Henry ("Wait. You look familiar to me... that face... Not now.") , he can't recognize anyone anymore. And even if he could, he's so far gone, or perhaps just apathetic, he just doesn't care. (Oh, and he actually didn't kill anyone directly, he just tied them up and chucked them to the Ink Demon.) Now, there's Norman. Norman is just purely gone. Nothing left of his personality, except that habit of stalking about in the dark (then again, everyone does that). Which means he has no conscience, which means no morality or proper emotion. And there's no way we can know how many people he killed, considering that absolutely no evidence shows up. The Butchered Gang (my way of referring to the failed Butcher Gang members) may walk into his light a few times out of stupidity, but I don't think they count, considering they aren't really proper beings (until BATDR). Also, Norman is implied to be alive, if his screeching projector head in BATDR is any indication.
The song works on both the literal level, as a song about the Projectionist, but also as a more general metaphor for someone who feels he's lost himself--lost his meaning to live--and all he has left to hold onto for an identity is the memories of his past. There's a bit of a nihilistic undertone here, too, such as to say I don't know why I'm here, but I'll tell you the story of my life and you can draw your own conclusions from that, because 1) I'm tired of trying and 2) You're going to do that anyway, regardless of what I think.
When one's life turns towards a dark path/road, one way to hold back the crushing darkness is drawing light from one's memories. The problem of solely relying on the light of the past is that the memories become more distant, dimmer, and hazy as time moves on. If one doesn't attempt to create new light/memories to rely upon (or reinforce the old light), then one will drown in darkness grasping onto a dying light with their fading memories.
"Way back in history you could say I was very bright" "But now I drawn to the deepest darkness and that's where I find my light" My favorite line and it's just perfect for the projectionist
What an amazing song about the Projectionist... both Dawko and CG5 have such amazing voices. I loved the bridge portion that was lower and more spoken, made it just that much better. Yet another awesome song from CG5 and Dawko!
Projectionist has to be the most fearless character in the game, to Fight bendy for f**k's sake. He fights Henry when he has a fricken machine gun, he may just have blind devotion to kill, but he is defiantly the character that can be thought out.
I find that this song not only represents Norman and his fall to the ink but also the other workers who lost their lives to the machine. Workers like Shawn Flynn, Bertrum Peadmont, Lacie Benton, Grant Cohen, Jack Fain, and other people who never had their stories told. Just got their tape and once they’d been listened to, brushed off as background characters.

The book explains his origin a tiny bit more. What we know is that he was killed by either Sammy or a Searcher. Couldn't have been Bendy because both Bendy and Buddy ran past Norman's corpse.

The nostalgia hit hard on this one, lads. Just two years ago I used to be obsessed with BATIM and then it faded into obscurity and it lingered in the back of my mind, the Bendy plush on my desk unnoticed. Until a week ago it popped up on the Nintendo eShop for $30. Now I'm saving up money to see what I've been missing lately.
