I first learned about Aaliyah after watching Romeo Must Die, I thought she was really cool and charming in the movie, and I enjoyed the songs she sung from the soundtrack. I was definitely sad to hear that she passed away early.
She actually died right after she finished filming "Rock Your Boat" the small plane that she was on crashed shortly after takeoff and I remember all my friends and me in school the next day were all in shock and in tears crying it was so heartbreaking! 😭

Would be interested on a video on Yellowcard, they gave us one of the most beloved songs with the 25-31 age group, with Ocean Avenue and while they didn’t have any more crossover smashes afterwards, they did become a cult favorite and I am among that fanbase, since even though I only bought their CD in middle school because of that song, they ended up being one of my favorite bands of my youth, but that status was put on ice for a while when they sued Juice WRLD
they only retired recently! It definitely feels like they came in with Ocean Avenue and Only One and swept and nearly left. Rough Landing Holly was such a good song too.

I think the Aaliyah v Beyoncé comparisons should stop its old. They were both already famous when alive and would’ve continued with that, people probably would’ve favored Aaliyah a little more but who knows. Brandy was one of the biggest stars in the 90s but over the years her popularity declined it could’ve been the same with Aaliyah
I can’t believe it has been 20 years since her. I was 2 years older than Aaliyah. She was definitely a part of my high school years here in Chicago. I cried when she died; that is something I have not done since her death. I never cry over celebrities. She represented classiness that was disappearing among women in the r&b and hip-hop industry. I feel sorry for anyone who was not born in the 90’s. That was the best time for r&b.
This video made me so emotional. Thank you putting this out Honest. Her legacy definitely lives on and she continues to be an inspiration and blueprint for many.
Aaliyah deserved so much better. This also happened to JoJo and she’s since re-recorded her first two albums and been releasing solid R&B, would love to see a video on her since her recent releases and getting back in the music game!

I'm 41 years old so I was a teenager in the 90s listening to her music. I brought all her CDs and watching all her music videos on TV. Is truly sad that my 14 year old and 19 year old don't really know who she is. They need to have her music released to the next generation.
I was born in '93 man and can definitely say that the landscape of entertainment would've been totally different if she was still here. She killed it in Romeo Must Die and was beginning to explode, id say by '01 she was the biggest female Rnb artist, she was like the big sister u always wanted. If the crash and 9/11 hadn't accrued then the 2000s would've felt like the 90s for alot longer than it had. overtime it began to depress me to realize she was gone.
What her uncle is doing to her legacy is completely unbelievable. Aaliyah is ESSENTIAL to 90s / Early 2000s pop/urban culture. She is one of my favorite artists of all time and if I hadn’t burned her music to my iTunes library I would have lost access to most of her music besides UA-cam. Pretty much.
@kitten blossom In my opinion anything you can vibe to regardless of when it came out and the age of who is listening is something that will NEVER age. That’s why a lot of artist from yesteryear are still popular amongst all generations because they created music that is timeless. Everyday more people are discovering music from before their time and it’s beautiful!
@kitten blossom they don’t at least know her from queen of the damned ?
@kitten blossom how old are you? are you black? i ask this because any black 20 something year old knows Aaliyah. her style and music is still so influential. especially now with the revival of y2k fashion and aesthetics, Aaliyah is very relevant.
@@imParisthoee the kids that wear y2k fashion nowadays do not know about Aaliyah it’s not about being black. Some people just aren’t cultured 🤷🏾♀️
It definitely seems unfair to me when someone's like is cut short at such a young age, especially when they have so much potential like Aaliyah. I remember watching/listening to that music video, I didn't realize she died right after that. 😰
@@effyrosecarmen yeah the music video almost didn't get released since it was the last footage of her alive but they decided to release it in honor of her memories. She had a bright future ahead and was suppose to star in "Matrix Reloaded" so it was all sad and unfortunate that she lost her life so soon and at only 22 years old! 😭
@@flyany6682 I completely agree.
I loved her so much as a kid. And especially got so excited when she started acting. I cried when she died. I'll never forgive the creepy men in the industry preying on her. She was only 22 yet accomplished such an amazing legacy
R Kelly is a creep
there's more to her story she was a solid woman and I won't like let him taint her allow her feelings to shine through I think that's what she would want
One thing I always hear about Aaliyah from people is that when they found out about her passing they cried like they lost a family member.
Yes everyone was being creepy she was still a baby damn 22 is young as shit
Fun fact after she passed, blackground took in jojo as if she were sent to them by Aaliyah, but they were horrible to her. Her msuic isn’t available either, and she was unable to release for years.
Wow I wasn’t aware that is such a shame for both queens I love their music and always wondered why I could never stream the original songs and why only the recent remakes of them were the only song available ( jojo)
Her uncle also said said the day he signed Jojo Aaliyah told him she had a gift for it and it was in fact Jojo. I agree if she sent her to him why did he do Jojo so wrong? She literally could of been a legend and dominated R&B

Aalyiah’s people aren’t doing her justice with her music posthumously. Selena and Michael Jackson’s camps are doing a better job with access to records.
Oh, those are very poor examples. Exploitation of legacy is not handling stuff well

She was ahead of her time. She blessed the world with her incredible talents and she will live in our hearts forever.
