I feel like Taylor, as any great lyricist and artist, always sends a specific message but also leaves a lot of room for interpretation. So I agree with yours, but everyone would have their own response too
When I was researching into Taylor's upbringing I ran into some information about a girl she knew that was in an abusive situation. However, what I found was about a girl who was eleven (and Taylor the same age) and the abusive situation wasn't from her father but from another person she should have been able to feel safe around, so if Taylor was writing about that, maybe she changed some details to protect the girl's privacy? Anyways, it feels like Taylor wishes she could've done something for this friend of hers, but maybe she didn't really understand what the girl was going through at the time, only now that she's older. The song also references their paths diverging and losing touch with each other, maybe because of Taylor moving from Pennsylvania to Nashville before high school (and social media wasn't really a thing yet). It feels like Taylor is trying to help her past friend get in touch with their more innocent childhood memories to get away from whatever unpleasant stuff her friend experienced.
I like how you are very thoughtful when dissecting her songs. I don't think you're over thinking at all, her songs are meant to be interpreted multiple ways. Seven is my favorite behind cardigan. The line I love the most is "I used to scream ferociously anytime I wanted". In her documentary on Netflix she talks a lot about reprogramming a lot of misogyny that as she grew older she was trained to think. I always connect those two together. The symbolism of "screaming ferociously anytime I wanted" is just a really poetic way of being free and not having to worry about what you say or do; the carelessness of being a child. And also reminiscing before she had to constantly think about every action she took or every word she said. This song just gives me the longing of wanting to be a kid again and remembering how easy and simple life was- "are there still beautiful things?" makes me feel like she's asking from a younger self to an older self. Really really beautiful song!!
It is such a beautiful song! I thought it was pretty deep when I was listening to it. Also regarding your comment on child hood... Isn't it crazy how we can have these moments now where we think back and sometimes wish to relive those moments. Yet, often when we were young we were dreaming and thinking about what life would be like when we were older. It's crazy how things change
Yes, it may be based on a memory of her childhood, she grew up in Pennsylvania. Perhaps remembering a friend who had a difficult home life, so the rational of a child on the situation.
A beautiful song. I can relate. Growing up , i witnessed as a child my father being abusive and ny mother cry and react. I had a bestfriend in first grade. She remained my bestfriend till year 12. She too went through tough times. We are both 34 now. Met age 5. We spent out entire childhoods as bestfriends. And carried on in highschool. And our love for one another, remains for life. I cant even explain it. Its like family love. But honestly more special. We helped heal eachother from our traumas. I never spoke about it as a little girl. I never showed the other side of me to her, the one who would cry and not be able to stop due to the trauma triggers at home. All we did was sing dance and play. This song is one of my favourites.
SC I'm so sorry to hear this, but thank you for sharing some of your story. It holds weight, and is powerful and I'm sure has and will touch so many other people's lives. I'm praying for you! Also, that's what I thought the hidden meanings of her song were referring to in this song. (Just really difficult situations) You ARE loved, you ARE valued, and you ARE appreciated. Thank you!
This is probably my favorite song of the album, behind my tears ricochet. I really enjoy the imagery that this songs provides and the feelings it makes me feel of nostalgia, compassion, and longing. Also some people are referencing the closet as a lgbtq reference. Which reminds me of my cousin who is trans and really wanting her to have had a childhood where she wasn’t hiding. Her writing to me is flawless in many ways, in just one verse many interpretations and feelings can come out of it. Glad you are enjoying the album. I encourage you to listen to her earlier work as well and see how this is a culmination of a lot of her progression and growth. I do think it is about her friend she had, specifically when she says I don’t remember your face I still have love for you. Go back to elementary school and I’m sure you can have great memories with childhood friends but still can’t remember their face.
Ari, I think her writing has been impeccable on this album. She's been so pure/raw, and it's been a wonderful experience thus far. Any songs or albums from her earlier work that I should check out specifically?
Her die hard fans believe that The song “all too well” is one of her best written songs ever before this album. Red is also a great fun song. As well as sparks fly, I also like Cornelia street and false God.
its about her childhood friend that she is reminiscing, just a cute memory when she was seven yrs old but as a folk song.. it can be interpreted whatever u wanted it to like as u explain it.. it can be about anything u want it to be since it is “folklore” .. the album is deep..very deep and complex
this song made me think of joni mitchell's song, 'cherokee louise'. she wrote it about a childhood friend who had an abusive foster father. very similar in theme. i wonder if taylor ever heard that song. i LOVE 'seven.'
CSProductions.29 I’ve never thought about the beginning being about the music industry. It made me think that she accomplished so much in her career but she feels like her peak was in a swing before all these adult’s stuff. Like her best version of herself was when she hadn’t accomplished nothing yet
I'm so late to the party here, but thank you for your reaction and insights! I'm going through aaall of your TS reactions and loving it! She's such a powerhouse in terms of musicality, lyricism and themes - and performance too! If you haven't dove into her live performances yet, I can only suggest that you do if you wish to have a better understanding of the artist she is :) If you are open to it, Harry Styles has a song called Matilda that came out recently, where these issues of abusive families or tough situations growing up can have a lasting impact and what we can hope for, for someone who has gone/is going through it. You obviously don't have to react to it unless you want to, but it does tie in with the subject matter and is really beautiful
this is probably inspired by famous girl dispearing case of Pennsylvania, seven is from the sisters perspective." i cant recall your face, but i still got love for you" and her family had a boy called allan, in their childhood, they loved play hide and seek in weeds,so in cardigan" chase two girls, lose the one" basically the little girl was dispeared when she was four, and her sister was eleven,11-4=7 dispeared without body,so"no body, no crime"

Did I look too deeply into this, or is this part of the beauty of the artform and interpretations that can come? Let me know!

Gotcha. That makes sense. That's where I felt like the song was leading.

Gotcha. That makes sense Jazz. I've quickly learned that this album is VERY deep. It is beautiful though.
CSProductions.29 yes daddy 😍❤️🥺
It is not just a 'cute memory' she's talking about child abuse.
Thank you for all your reactions to Taylor Swift’s so gs from her ‘folklore’ album. I love them all. ♥️
It is my pleasure. Thank YOU for joining me on this journey!

mirrorball, seven, august and invisible strings are my favs 🔆 love your reactions and interpretations 🙌🏻
You're the best! Thanks.
I love your interpretation on the second verse
Thank you Jerome! Maybe it was just me, but I thought she was getting pretty deep
This song is top 5 in folklore
so good!
You made me interpreter the song differently! God job!!!
Idk if I was wayy off with this one, but that's what came to mind when listening.

To me this song is absoultly about the abuse of a friend as a child. That ur trying to help ur friend howeever u can
Indian Swifties freaked out over this song XD
Why is that?
@@Guitarz4Lyf maybe cause she mentioned india on that song.
We'll move to india forever
@@gracefully_livy And she never went there to tour. Not even once.
Francis Triexl Kyle Gobi I think it’s because it wasn’t safe (I’m so sorry if I’m wrong I just heard it)
You’re over thinking this. The song is ab her as a child where she grew up (Pennsylvania) talking ab her friend who had issues at home
Gotcha. Were some of those issues abuse, or just difficulties?
CSProductions.29 Everything I’ve read is abuse, but who truly knows. It did make for a great song
@@debbie8437 gotcha, that is so very true.
Hey you sounded so rude. Are you okay?
Folk songs are stories. Does it matter the source or person? no. Let it tell it's story. Seems also about childhood vs after childhood.
Ahhh, That's a good point.
Two girls, childhood love, before they learn civility... without the need to hide in the closet
Your reaction is interesting!

How about japanese music.
I want you to react to 3 of them
