Great lecture! Helps a lot clearing up some of these abstract concepts in the context of dynamical systems.

Interesting and important topic , i hope Norwegian academy of science and letters have read chapter 3 of my fifth compendium in mathematics . since there i have more or less , based my transformation operation based on various orders of representing numbers by prime sequences , which is very close to this lecture and in particular 7:00 - 8:00 , where prof Sinai indicate briefly importance of number theory in chaos theory. However surprisingly i could not see any indication of rule of number theory in describing chaos formulation at the rest of the lecture .

Probably because he observed @6:15 "people will not like it". Also, Yakov's research was focused on dynamical systems, statistical mechanics, probability theory, and statistical physics, not number theory _per se._ But not, any computer running an algorithm generating digits of π is a dynamical system that exhibits deterministic chaos (by Sinai's definition) and whose output is a string from pure number theory!
