There are so many cool Rogue lords, I saw Tegwyll during preview season and was kind of sad they didn't give other faeries deathtouch, and got interested in alela since I've wanted to look into spell slinger decks. Mari is such a fun lord affect and semi-graveyard hate at the same time, your card selection has really made me want to brew my own version of this dimir spell slinging trickster!
@@rikuexe9082 Sure, I added things like Rhystic Leyline Kindred Faerie Tauntings for enchantments Mistbind clique Spellstutter Sprite Talion Oona's blackguard Faerie mastermind Vendillion clique for creatures Then more counters, removal and a few cantrips to keep Alela activating. I added some artifacts like sword of F&F to always have mana, and I tidied up the mana base. I own an Underground Sea and Shock (among others), but it's not necessary.
Another great board wipe of sorts that leaves you with a board is the new Faerie Slumber Party. I know they’re not Rogues too but still sets everyone else back and leaves you with creatures.
Good suggestion! Having another wipe in the build in not a bad idea (since we only have 1) and this was is fits the faerie theme nicely while getting through destruction protection and - like you mentioned - leaving us with a at least partially tribal board for us to take advantage of, so I can see it slotting into the build quite nicely.
thank you for this! just got back into the game, and picked this deck up for my first commander night. right out of the box, it was fun to play and not horrible. i'm excited to make some changes. out of the box, alela is tough as the commander
I was hoping for a mtg Elsa deck, but I really like this deck! I like that thought of goading all the big bads my opponents have on the board. Also who doesn’t love including rankle in a deck
I would love if there was a list of the changes. I wanna give this to a friend for Christmas and it would make it so much easier to order the cards I need
aaaah amazing! I built this deck with a rogue typal side as well and I was considering about Mari as I thought it could be a nice addition. I actually used the Sneak Attack preconstructed deck to build her ahaha
I would only consider Wizard Class for this deck, a cheap enchantment that removes handsize and is a payoff to card draw. Amazing video, I'm looking forward to next week's video!!!
Good suggestion! I did consider adding in Wizard Class, since, like you mentioned, getting rid of our hand size is great and the draw based payoff that grows our evasive faerie rogues is fantastic (and the draw doesn't hurt either). I think it just ended missing out due to budget constraints, but I could certainly recommend it if we have a few extra bucks to spare.
So even though those upgrades offer free spell play, the price for freedom of cast is steep! Like this one Grazz - nice feature of evasive critters comboed with serious countering and removal.
Interesting suggestion! Since we're running / have a lot of ways to create evasive bodies, getting this transformed to allow us to use our tokens as mana dorks can be quite useful. I may just have to test this out. Thanks!
Faeries are my fave tribe. I plan to build Oona with some new faeries from Eldraine though it might be a bit more expensive :X Can't wait for Eriette since she's also on my build list.
Yep, faeries certainly got a LOT of support in this latest set, so it is a great time to be a faerie tribal enjoyer! And the Eriette build is complete and will release next Sat, so stay tuned!
Second week of the new video format is going well, it's certainly been a positive change. We have a mischievous deck this week. It looks to encapsulate the "classic" Faerie playstyle which the precon didn't quite hit the mark with (although it was still a pretty good precon otherwise).
Nice build and great video! I played this precon out of the box, putting Alela into the command zone, and though I won handily it was a bit of a miserable game for my opponents since I was mainly grinding them down with not a ton of power on board and making them discard with Rankle every turn. Any suggestions on potential adds to help close out games once board control has been taken?
I hate to suggest an off theme creature (I also don’t like this creature cuz mono blue control is a standard deck I can’t tolerate atm) but Haughty Djinn is a HUGE evasive body that blocks decently and reduces the cost of all the stuff you wanna cast here.
Been wanting to overhaul this deck as it felt pretty “meh” out of the box (admittedly I immediately swapped Alela into the CZ and maybe it was a bit better with the other). Tons of cards here that weren’t on my radar and I really appreciate the added segment for those with a little higher budget! Just subscribed; honestly not sure why I wasn’t already subscribed as I have to have seen at least half a dozen of your vids and enjoyed them all. Looking forward to more! The rat gets my vote. As somebody above put so succinctly Johann is a yawn and I just don’t see Greta being strong enough to be a commander at most tables.
yeah the stock list isn't great with Alela. I bought the precon too, and the deck was better with Tegwyll. I improved the Instants package and switched to some Flash faeries. Now the deck is really strong with Alela.

Now as for the vote... well Johann is yet another Izzet Spellslinger - snore - Greta is really sweet, but more of a tech for the Gyome deck, and we're only left with... a Rat Bastard who stole my vote! I understand completely. May cadence when recording can aptly be described as an "acquired taste". If you are still interesting in viewing this content however and not listen to the audio, this and most of my video's have a full transcription of the script as subtitles that is available as an alternative.

I upgraded this with some pricey cards and good faeries. The deck is REALLY good with Alela as the commander. I'm mid on Tegwyll.

Just found the precon for $30. This looks like a nice budget path to take for a fun budget deck.

I'm going to have to vote on Totentanz - was just looking at a related card for another deck and did not know there was a potential commander as well
