  • Maqam Rast is the basic and main Maqam in Arabic music and it contains two quarter tones. As you can hear and see, I play a standard guitar with a standard tuning, no additional frets on my fretboard, I bend the strings to get the quarter tone and correct Maqam sound and in this case, I am free to blend my Maqam with jazz lines and anything that I want. I hope you gonna enjoy my playing. Please feel free to share it on your social network.
    If you are interested to learn my stile of playing I'm available for Skype lessons.

    I know how this is done and I have seen some others try it before, Yet this is totally different and not experimental!! You are the first one I see who could apply maqamat and play them properly and melodically on a fretted guitar! WOW :) I'm checking all your music. keep going and greetings from Egypt.

    The way playing guitar with quarter tone is that you need to bend the note before the quarter tone to get it !
    Per example : Eb we need to bend the string until we get E quarter tone

      +Michel Sajrawy I have a question. Is this Maqam Rast on Do or Mi?

    • @MichelSajrawy

      +Michel Sajrawy Thanks. Maybe I'm not understanding how to play maqam but I hear A♭ which is not from Rast in Do. Such notes can be used flexibly or sort of key changing is in this playing?

    I thought you do pitch bend with a pedal or a software as I didn't see you bending much. Please take a look at the tuning I came up with and see what you think. Does you technique work on acoustic instruments without ant electronics? Whatever it is, I hope you share it one day as it is great.

    • @MichelSajrawy
      @MichelSajrawy  10 років тому +1

      I dont use any pedal for bending, Yes sure my technique works on acoustic guitar steel strings!

      It's still a standard tuning, I didn't change it! It's impossible for a beginner to produce these quarter tones the way I do it.. you need to be a player first, good luck to you and thank you for your appreciation :)
