Note, he asked you to sign into steam *on chrome* most likely the extension was meant to send your account info off. Since you can grab passwords and IDs as a DOM object in HTML. Used to show people how i could find the password they typed into Google as it was just asterisks. Wouldn't be surprised if all the extension did was grab the username and password just before the form was sent.
This is interesting. I've seen lots of scambaiting videos, but I had no idea there were scams on Steam like this. I guess people do anything for money. That Chrome extension is a mystery. Maybe you could use a virtual machine to test it out in a safe sandboxed environment, but IDK. I'll be sure to contribute to reporting the extension. Thanks!

I am 90% sure you already know this but, in case you don't and encounter one of these chrome extension scams in the future, you can use a virtual machine and actually install the damn extension thing but, it won't actually be on your pc so, no harm, no foul.
I think it would be Interesting to run steam on a VM and build a sacrificial account with a csgo inventory to see how some of the scams actually happen.
What you should do is if a scammer sends you to someone that is supposed to verify your skins give it a few minutes then go back to the scammer and say the verifier scared you and see if they block you
Also, make sure you never Voice Chat or connect with anybody you don't know over Skype. This is a "direct connection" and a scammer can get your IP if you accept a Voice call or Skype with them.
