The writing and acting on this show was always first rate. Whether the crazy comedy that made us laugh until our sides hurt, or scenes like this, that made us feel the pain, the sorrow, the loss, the heartbreak. Television has had its share of great moments, and many of them came from this program.
"You know what I did today? I hit the best friend iv'e ever had." It takes real courage to admit to a friend that you were 'out of order" sometimes, especially the close ones. I always got the feeling from the show MASH that they understood humanity or were at least trying to. War is senseless, was the other narrative they played to. Intelligent writing.
Very good episode and the realities of war. There is an episode where a guy gets a picture of his wife holding “our baby” and he is ticked off. After an exchange he said he’s been here over a year (so it isn’t “our baby”).
This hurts, but only because I saw this type of thing happen over and over again while deployed. This is why, those of us without children, will do all we can to give the men time to be with their families.
People think drag queens transed my gender. In actuality, it was these men who cared about each other, who could be vulnerable with each other, who went through worse than hell and still felt a kind of hope, a kind of love. Gods I love these two idiots so much.

"The first time my little girl called anybody 'Daddy,' it wasn't me." The words are just crushing, but so brilliant in displaying the emotion.
My eyes are honestly watery after seeing this part.
What a great actor Mike was
That was ... really painful. And I don't even HAVE kids.
This really defines BJ, and shows why he's not just another Trapper
Yea. Always whining about his wife and kid. Quit crying
I'm Giving this episode alot of Credit where it's do Hawkeye was there for BJ

The unfortunate part is that was true for a lot of our soldiers 😔

Mike Farrell is a great actor
This had to be the most gut-wrenching moment of the entire series, except maybe the news of Henry Blake or the chicken in GF and A
Sword through the heart, I have a little girl
Irreplaceable Alan ❤️
Absolutely awesome
Honeycutt was infinitely better than Trapper in every way.
Not really.
He cheated on his wife twice.

We should just send all our women off to war, so daddies never have to suffer like this.......
Bj was always whining about his kid. Good lord quit whining
Well aren't you a peach
Yes, any man who loves his family and is sad to be away from them is just a sook, aren't they?
@@tmhgdh obviously . . more so when they are drafted.
I'm glad Hawkeye was there for BJ because that's what friends do
Hawkeye was there for BJ and that's what matters.
