  • Today I am sharing how I make a glaze medium to create embellishments. My process was inspired by Tim Holtz's beautiful Distress embossing glazes. However, my method does not use embossing powder. In this video, learn to make an alternative glaze using 3 types of colour media, you can create any coloured glaze which you desire using an ink base and a gel medium. I have used 3 different ink-based products to show you the types of glaze finishes that can be achieved. The brands which I used are from Ranger by Tim Holtz and Heidi Swapp, Color Shine.
If you would like to learn more about my creative processes, please visit my blog, inkedinkscrap....
And watch and see what else I make on my UA-cam channel, / @leannewagnerart
    Materials used:
Ranger - Tim Holtz - Distress Archival Inkpads - Vintage photo, Hickory smoke and Black soot.
Tim Holtz alcohol inks - Pool.
Ranger - Tim Holtz - Distress Spray Stain - Wild Honey.
    Heidi Swapp - Color Shine-Coral.
    Chromacryl-Impasto Gel Medium.
    Kaisercraft - Let's Go - stamp set.
Stampin up (Australia) - stamp set (name unknown).
StampMarta (Australia) - stamp (name unknown).

Hello everyone, I hope you enjoy learning how to make an alternative medium to achieve a glaze effect on your embellishments and mixed media projects. This is my first long video with me chatting and sharing every detail of the process. I suggest you grab a cuppa and scrap along while watching. This method I use to create the glazed look is very simple and only requires a couple of products which some of you may already have in your supplies. It's messy fun, a great mixed media creative play experience, and allows you to create whatever coloured glaze effect that you need. Please, let me know if you find this video useful and have any other techniques that you would like to learn about?

Great use for the Impasto Gel Medium. For longer videos like this, I have no problem with speeding up to 1.75 or even 2 times faster and as I'm also an Aussie (from Perth), I have no trouble understanding you. I find some of the American videos talk too slow so they definitely get the speed treatment. A hint for you, if you're looking for a glass mat, the Pyrex glass mat from Big W in the kitchen section comes in 2 different sizes, around $11 and $14 and is a great cheap alternative to the bigger and more expensive craft glass mats. I also teach classes and these ones are small enough for the girls to transport easily to class and both sizes will take a 5" x 7" gel plate if you use one of those too. Off to peruse your other videos. 🙂

Hi Kelsey, nice to hear from a Perth Aussie. Thanks for the great tips. I use a large piece of black perspex (recycled) instead of a glass mat, its just too big and awkward to use for filming. Great idea, using a small, portable, pyrex glass mat sounds effective. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Jenny, great to meet another Aussie, g'day mate! It is frustrating how sometimes it can take take weeks, sometimes months for product to arrive from the US to Australian stores. I feel for the Australian store owners, it's not their fault that the delays occur. Like you, I would prefer to buy all my product from Australian stores. I'm happy to say that with Tim Holtz's latest release stock was in some Australian stores ready to be sold on/next day after the live. I supported this productivity by purchasing some of the new TH dies...now if only Australia Post could sort themselves out, they are overwhelmed by all our online purchases.
