Fun fact: The reason Wade and Ember were able to touch without hurting each other was because of a scientific phenomenon known as the Leidenfrost effect which is when water like Wade touches a hot surface like Ember which creates a layer of steam like the one you see when they first touch which acts as an insulator for Wade, preventing him from getting vaporized and by extension, Ember from getting extinguished.

Honestly, both Ember and Bernie are at fault. Bernie and Ember have always talked about running the shop together and Ember always seemed so enthusiastic about the shop so Bernie has no reason to question if she really wants to run the shop or not. Ember should have told her dad the second she had doubts about wanting to run the shop and Bernie should have let her know when Ember was old enough to understand that he will support her wether she decides to run the shop or go her own path. Both prospectives are completely understandable.
