  • In Philippines, which supported a rich termite fauna comprising of 55 known termite species in 18 genera reported species, 4 subterranean species are considered serious structural pests. The Coptotermes vastator Light, (Philippine Milk Termites) Microtermes losbanosensis Oshima, (Micro Termites) Macrotermes gilvus Hagen (Mound Builder Termites) and Nasutitermes luzonicus Oshima (Nasu Termites). The total damage caused by these termites in the Philippines is unknown but considering the abundance and level of activity of these insects, financial losses due to termite attacks are huge and vulnerable.
A termite colony can eat up to one cubic inch of wood per day. When you think about how many 2X4’s that might be you will realize why they can quickly weaken a buildings or structures with wood supports. To obtain the wood for their food they make extensive tunnels through the structures weakening them and eventually causing their collapse.
