I used to see and hear Alpert & Sheene at a little club in Tampa, Florida around 1980 -- my first novel had just come out, and they would come to our table and visit with us between sets. One night they performed Gordon Lightfoot's "If You Could Read My Mind" for me with the lyric:" … What a tale your thoughts could tell, just like a paperback novel, the kind the drugstore sells." Great memories. They were wonderful!
