I didn't think there was any chance that Mo was going to sign for less than 9. Getting both these for long term at an average of 8.25 each is fkin crazy.
I was just talking about this with a coworker. I just smile when I think about Seider being better than Darnell Nurse and being singed for 7 years at a lower cap hit.
I root for the Red Wings for more than 25 years and I live in Brazil. Definitively this is the best podcast about our team. Mo and Raymond locked up for long term is great. I do hope our top prospects (Danielson, Kasper, Mazur, ASP, MBN ...) do the NHL sooner than we expect and showing more than anyone expect. They realy can do it and they are underestimated because we are not a hyped team. Sooner than later, Danielson is going to be the 2C we are waiting for. Copp will be bought up (hope, traded) in that window.
I heard someone the other day making a comparison concerning Lucas Raymond to Brayden point. I can totally see him reaching the 90 point mark and being a clutch factor player
Im excited to see how Kane looks after actually getting a training camp this year. He looked great without it last year, can only look better with it right?
I'd like to see them try these lines to balance scoring and have big heavy shutdown 4th line. Deby-Larks-Kane Rassy-JT-Ray Bergy-Copp-Senko Soder-Vel-Fish Not too sure on D pairs. I really like Maatta but not sure where to put him. Gust-Seider Eddy-Petry Chiarot-Holl
I'm really glad you guys too the time to hammer home the point of the cup contention vs playoff contention. The upcoming construction of how are contracts are set to come off the books is what has me most excited for short term 2-4years. Most bandwagon fans all they do is stand on one leg and say fire LaLonde fire Yzerman no playoffs everything was a failure. The contract timeline structure is brilliant RN and I'm curious to see what management will do with it. The Red Wings are stacked for middle 6 depth but you won't be able to keep everyone. Me personally I'd love the next FA to be a top D man but can respect the press for a forward. I'm sure Detroit keeps Debrincat but who else would we love to see signed besides Kane or taresenko. I'd love to hear educated opinions on what a 2027 or 2028 opening day roster might look like.
Definitely not Tarasenko, I'll be happy if he even comes close to providing decent value for what he gets paid this year. I think that is a player on the decline, I'm doubtful he's a guy the team wants to extend. Plus it would be nice to see the average age of this team move from geriatric towards something younger than that.
@@jessecoonce1363 around the idea of ”they are not signed and will not be” or ”yzerman only gives bad contracts” or ”mo and seider will be getting too short of a term/or overpay” basically around the objectively poor FA signings (that do deserve to be criticized) but realistically wont come in the way of the actual window where the Wings can be competitive
They literally, if all goes well, just give the difference of Larkin's contract to Seider. So they will maintain the same salary cap hit for the two players for the next 10-14 years. Also, the Cap only stinks for this year. $15M comes off this year, $17M the next. So that's 1/3 of the Cap. And that's not including Cap increases and then the money from the TSN(CAD TV rights) deal right when the CBA is done after the 25-26 season. And then expansion money.
Cap roll off end of season (one way contracts) Kane - 4M Fish - 1.13M Bergs - .825 Motte - .800 Maata - 3M Petry - 2.43M Husso - 4.75M Lyon - .900 Yamamoto - .553 18.36M in cap rolls off end of season. There’s no telling what trades will happen and who may be waived. We can expect to see 2-3 more ELC’s make the roster by start of 25/26 season. The only current roster player that could be a substantial resigning next year is Kane. Yzerman has this team in a good spot going into 25/26. The core is locked in for 7-8 years, very promising ELC’s making the roster and enough money (next year) to bring in a difference maker on the blue line. If Edvinsson can step in and play valuable quality minutes and to a smaller degree Johansson as well, than this current roster should do better than what’s being predicted. Despite all the naysayers, this rebuild is starting to really come together.
@@MachineRiggerthe rebuild should be further along already SY held players back for a season and GR doesn’t always mean that they are going to be good in the NHL if they are great in AHL. But they have the hunger to play better in the NHL rather than riding a bus for GR. I would like to see MBN play in GR and have a few players make the roster by next season. They have alot of talent but they need to see how they play in the NHL and what they need to work on if they need to work on anything at all. Danielson might need a half season in GR but Mazur and Kasper could be better options on second and 3rd line and move Tarasenko down a line. Never know what happens.
My thought is if you have the current young guys play their ELC years in GR they will get less on the first RFA contract. Nobody was good enough to make the roster and risk them demanding a big contract. This allows us to sign our future bottom 9 to more reasonable contracts than we have now and room for future FAs when the actual cup contention window starts. I don't know if that justifies the bad short term contacts they signed, but it makes sense if they don't want to repeat the over pays of fabbri, veleno, Rasmussen, ect... I don't think we'll have to wait too much longer to see them kick off their attempt at a playoff machine.
@@swiftpanda9384 Honestly with how many players and how much salary is coming off the books over the next 3 years, you're better off getting home-grown talent versus having to pay inflated prices on July 1st. The more you can grow your team, the more likely they are to take discounts to win as a team, versus the mercenary attitude of Free Agency. If the kids are good enough to help you win and win playoff games, then you do that. Let the chips fall as they may.
Unfortunately, RW does not have the luxury of letting Edvinsson be a rookie during his rookie year. Edvinsson, got slightly more ice time during S24 (18;15) than S23 (17;04). Even if the statistics are based on a somewhat low base, the majority say that he is the team's second most important defender. Edvinsson played a simple game and made Petry look better than he is. So it's about what role he should have/take and how he can dispose of his energy during the year, and here I'm not worried at all. I think a lot is about where William Wallinder, Albert Johansson and Erik Gustafsson will be slotted in. The camp will therefore be more important than in several years as there are already more young people in the team and then not everyone has been given a change from GR "yet".
In a league with a hard salary cap, every star player should be expected to have to sacrifice some value on their contract if they also want to win. Until the NHL agrees to some kind modification to soften the cap, there cannot be a true free market for players.
Edvinsson and Seider need to play together. All the top teams play their best 2 dman together. If you're worried about the 2nd pair, go upgrade the 2nd pair. If the Redwing win a cup in 5 years it's because Edvinsson Seider first pair logs 25 mins a night and elevates each other's game towards being one of the best 1st pairs in the league. Start the chemistry now and get the growing pains out of the way now. The Walman Seider pairing was one of the worst 1st pairs in the league last year so the biggest priority should be getting the first pair going. It's the most important d line. You can always try figuring out the 2nd and 3rd pair at a later date. I'd rather lose a game because of my 2nd pair not my 1st. Like seriously you have 0 chance at the cup with a first pair liability.
I don't understand why any athlete in their early 20s would ever sign a 7_8 year deal. When you know halfway thru the deal, you're gonna be underpaid. If you're that good, you'll get another contract at the updated rate. 9 million defenceman now could be 14_15 mil in a few short years w the salary cap going up. Not gonna lie - it would be nice if expansion was this season. Expose Copp, Chiarot, et al. Hopefully, get out from under one, or even two, of those contracts.
