Maybe because I played trumpet at the time and the horn parts are so well arranged and performed. Such a beautiful crescendo as the song moves along and the horns become more prominent. Never. Gets. Couldn't agree with you more, Bill. This band has recorded some awesome songs, but this one takes the prize as their best. Funny - I was only 15 when this album was released, and the adult matter of the lyrics should've flown over my head, yet the opposite happened. Part of me went, "This is what it means to grow up". Not in a bitter or depressing way - more like a reality check about the fact that life is hard, that you need to work hard for what you want, and that we are only given a moment in time. You're right, the arrangements are brilliant. Thanks for giving this song the props it deserves.

I've everything an Irish fan could get from HLN and here I am listening to this song as 53 year old agreeing with the lyrics, having first listened to them as a 16 year old and just singing along cos I liked the tune 😢❤
It may be the best song from their 1987 album FORE! -which was a great album at the time. I was only 16 when this album was released and somehow it helped me understand what life was all about. It was an adult album, not really for a teenager, but it stuck on me like no album had done before. Now I am 52 and I perfectly understand the line "you ´ve reached the autumn of your life". Great song, great band, the 80s!!!

This song is a wasted potential it starts as high bear and epic intri but then it slows down then some parts go up then down and the side course is amazing then they sing some long which makes the song better then you hear "it's as simple as that" that another jazzy part from the beginning is back then slows down then I new instrument comes into play then the guitar comes in then they tell the story then the jazzy part is back then slow it down then it fades away the song is nice and the meaning of it is great.
