Learn how to combine two pictures and match the color, tone, and quality. Comment below with a photo if would like me to Photoshop it in an upcoming video.
Sorry about that. After opening an image in Photoshop you can drag the other image on top of the first image. Both images will be inside of Photoshop after that.
Rodney Michael Y. the exact same principles apply. the shortcuts are a little different. start off by dropping the first photo into Photoshop then drop the next photo right on top. then hit the layer mask tool at the bottom right. then use brush with black selected and paint on the white box next to photo with layer mask. If it doesn't work right away click white box next next to photo.
Hey this vid is a lil old now but could you help me out photoshopping me into a background to look normal? There's 2 pictures to choose from so I emailed both and you can use whichever works :))) Thank you so much
new subscriber - great tutorial! like someone else mentioned - it's a little tough at times to keep up with your speed of work as i tend to pause tutorials as i copy the technique. thanks tho! i use the new 2017 CC so hopefully it should all work the same as you showed.
From the very beginning somehow like "magic" you are working with two photos. How did you get those two photos on the same workspace. You never explained that. I'm trying to blend images but can't figure out how to prepare a workspace that contains the two photos.
Thank you! I play Rival Stars horse Racing and the AR doesn’t work that good (I want to add myself next to one of my favorite foals) So thanks soooooo darn much! Anytime I need photoshop help I’m coming to your channel 💝
Thank you so muuccchhh for making this video ;-; i really need this for online school cause- i can't understand my graphic designs teacher like- at all ;-;
Great video, definitely helped! I’ve been “using” photoshop for about a year now but haven’t really advanced in it so I’ve been working on some projects to improve my knowledge of the program and this is one that has definitely helped, thanks man :)
Hi Matt I'm looking to buy an imac and looking to use photoshop and maybe illustrator on it. Would it all run smoothly on the basic model or would I need the higher specs? Thanks
Mike Saxon it would definitely run smooth on the entry model. If you are creating larger files multiple times a day you might notice a little lag but not a lot. I would not recommend high level video editing in the starter model though.
Not that mate! I mean can you edit my photo and put it in a beach background (not place my face to a muscular man in the beach) just make me muscular and have six pack man enhance my chest and arms and have abs without putting my face to another photo. And send me your paypal ill pay you. Not that way mate thanks
It's just the photo you did, Just put muscle below my neck mate (see this pics, the 3rd pic is the muscle im referring to the muscle below the neck and please dont cut the abs mine's just 3 pack with a black on side) and please fix the abs and make it like the guy on the picture to be legit (blend the layer). Only the muscle below the neck and abs and thats it. Overall its 8.5/10 :) i like the background so much, after you edit my neck muscles and abs please send to me asap then ill send you the payment brother, just edit my whole body and make it look equal. And if its look super legit, ill make it £50 i sent you 3 photos (the 1st is my photo, the 3rd is what i want you to do, i brush the picture and encircle it to for you to know which part of muscle you will enhance on my 1st photo, it is the muscle below my neck and abs on my 1st photo and just make it look equal) thanks mate
Sorry about that Naiymafit. You can drag and drop the background image into photoshop first. Then drag your other image on top of that. Both images will now be inside of the layers panel inside of Photoshop.
Hi Matt, I am trying to photo shop an image of mom onto a music sheet of the song Hotel California. I just lost my mom and thought that would be great if i can print it and hang it up to remember her by. Problem is no matter how much I try it still looks crappy. Please help , thanks in advance.
I've added both of my photos to photoshop one on top of another and Ive used almost the same images. When I add the guy on the cliff image on top of the black and white the guy on the cliff image becomes a smart object. When I add a layer mask to it and use the history brush tool I always get the error "could not use history brush tool because the history state does not have a coresonding player". But I don't get this error if I use the history brush on the top image that doesn't have a mask. I would like to know how you added both images into photoshop prior to the video and why you didn't get an error message when using the history brush tool when you masked the top image. Has it got to do how I'm adding the images into photoshop? if the top image when I add it is a smart object does that mean the bottom one (black and white) has to be a smart object as well or does that not matter? Thank you.
Hi John, thanks for reaching out. You need to be using the Brush tool and not the history brush tool for this tutorial. In using the brush tool make sure you are brushing on the layer mask and not the image. You should see a white box linked to the top layer after clicking add layer mask (the white square with a grey circle in the middle of it, found at the bottom right of photoshop). That white box next to your layer is the layer mask. It needs to be selected in order to brush on top of it. Please use the color black and you should start to see the image become transparent. Email me at teamdesign805@gmail.com if you have additional questions.
Hi Dy, yes you can. Just have a picture of yourself as the top layer and the other place as the bottom layer. I recommend dragging the place into photoshop to make it the base layer. Then drag yourself on top. Then follow the video.
Dude , I can't even see your mouse when you say "brush over it again". Also you didnt explain that when you select the brush tool , it has to be black set in front and white set in the back like this prntscr.com/dvge1x ... Spent like around 10 mins figuring it out xD
Deva Vishnu oh dude I'm sorry for not being more clear. photoshop usually auto changes to black and white when you click layer mask button. also a great shortcut is hit the 'X' button on keyword to switch back and forth from white to black, so you can easily erase and redraw it back on.
Also, re-watched it. I have no idea why I said brush over it again, lol. I guess I was just talking about how I brushed over it originally when I selected the magic wand tool. I oftentimes will have a color range selected by magic wand and zoom out then hold brush down and color over whole image to delete that color out.
ahhh , understandable haha. Seriously man I owe your tutorial quite a lot. Spent hours practicing photoshop and all these other vids are just them doing what they do with music in the background , with no explanations Yours is by far the best I've come across. facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=272512549832876&set=a.105189806565152.1073741826.100012223984044&type=3&theater one of what I've done after watching your tutorial :) Not that good , but im proud of it so far hahaha
Deva Vishnu looks awesome man!!! my next video is about advanced coloring the whole comp. it will bump your pic up to the next level. keep up the awesome work!!!
Steve Harageones it's all in layering. you have to have the guy above the city. check out my layer panel on the far right under my face cam. I have 2 layers to start with. the guy and the city. erase away the guy and the city will show through.
ok thank you for the reply. Also...I noticed I don't have the magic wand you mention when you select the background to be erased in the climber photo. I have CC2017, which one are you using?
I am using an older one in the video, but i use the 2017 one all day. You do have the magic wand you just have to left click and hold to show it. imgur.com/a/nC4lg circled is where you have to click and hold then the magic wand will pop up. click it and then you are all set!
Dude awesome..Just could you explain how you did the layers at the beginning...feels like the most important step to get it right is missing..Sorry,just a beginner here
Who are you you need to make sure that you click layer mask on the top image. then use the paint brush set to black. I am making a few videos on masking out in the next videos.
Great work, but you missed the last step, export the overlay at lower quality and compression it so that it matches the background image import it again and there you go. That's my go to for perfection.
Hey, thank u for the awesome tutorial! I would like to ask instead of using the brush, can I just use the eraser? Because my brush does not function well, n will it give any effect?
za zul the erase tool will not work the same. it will permanently delete the image. you can hit undo but if you save and re-open you can't go back. I use the brush tool and got good with it because i got tired of needing to start over. most brush tool problems are because spacing is not set to 1%
Thank you for your fast reply! :) Yaa, it looks like my laptop is having limited storage, isn't it? Sometimes, some tools like eraser, brush, etc not functioning well :(
hey matt ... recently found ur channel..its awsm ..... i'm learning photoshop from couple of weeks ... right now i'm trying to melting the moon in photoshop i used liquify and other glowing effects but didn't get result i wanted . can u plzz tell me what i will do to melt moon like wax should i use dispersion technique in it ?... and srry for bad english
amRitt Bhamrah I would Google melting wax png and find the shape of melting you want. most png images are already cut and transparent background. then put that image in a layer above in Photoshop. then cntr click the image layer so it selects around the wax. then use clone stamp, select the moon and start drawing on top of wax. lastly use brush with 10% opacity lightly brush on top of moon wax to add shadows on edge of moon dripping.
a big thanx for ur reply ....so kind of you matt ....... i tried this didn't use clone stamp in this dont know where should i use in this...... imgur.com/gallery/6DAhT
So, the trick is to place a layer on top that is melting wax or something similar. then clone stamp the moon on top of the way layer so it looks like the moon is melting. let me see what i can do.
I only spent a couple min on this, so it doesnt look great. imgur.com/a/QtBUD But you can see the 2 layers. moon on bottom and wax on top. i just clone stamped over the wax and then used a blue brush on soft to create the shading. I used this wax halloweirdness.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/blood2.png and this moon img.clipartfest.com/2ac8994c0553c4a9cae43302bd6701be_full-moon-sky-stars-moon-and-stars-in-the-sky-clipart_5184-3456.jpeg
GameRoxy always have layer you want to brush on top. click layer mask button. then make sure you select the white square that pops up next to image layer. then brush with black color. people often forget to select that part of the layer.
Heey i got a realy inspiring photo that i wAnt to keep for the future and i think you would realy like it its about a lion and a person thats makes the person smile like the lion does, is their an email that i can send it to? So u can. Take a look i would realy appriciate it! Hope to hear u soon
Make sure to have the layer highlighted when you want to use the magic wand. Then click layer mask or hit the delete button. This will work as long as the layer isn't locked. If it is just double click the layer first.
How can i talk to you on private do you have instagram? if you could ill give you my email and you could do me a banner and a logo for youtube and ill tell you the information would that be good with you? or ill give you my email if you wuant
Hey matt! I sent you an email, Please edit the pic of my boyfriend and just change the background you choose any background. Thankyou matt!! Will do anything back pls make it real check your email
How is he seeing the B&W image as having blue?! I only see B&W.
ICOD73 the city has a blue tint to it on my computer. You can also eye drop to see the tint something has.
I thought I was going color blind for sec when he said that! lmfao
That was ok but I need something more advanced like exact color matching.
so how did you get the two images overlapped? tutorial doesn't help if I don't know how to start the way you're starting
Sorry about that. After opening an image in Photoshop you can drag the other image on top of the first image. Both images will be inside of Photoshop after that.
@@MattRussellphotoshop Hi matt can you help me manipulate my photo? Please send me your rate capitaldanjo@gmail.com

good and smart way .
why would I search this if the color issue wasn't the main issue. I don't understand why you decided to do a black and white picture first
I've added both of my photos to photoshop one on top of another and Ive used almost the same images. When I add the guy on the cliff image on top of the black and white the guy on the cliff image becomes a smart object.

Hi Ruairi, try selecting the black box next the the image on the layers pallet. If you post a screenshot I can diagnose why it's not working.

so how did you get the city photo behind the rock climber to where you could just erase the climber scenery?
Steve Harageones it's all in layering. you have to have the guy above the city. check out my layer panel on the far right under my face cam. I have 2 layers to start with. the guy and the city. erase away the guy and the city will show through.
Steve Harageones if it happens that the layers get switched just click, hold and drag the layer below or above, depending on what you need.

Hey can i ask how do you brush it i can't do it
GameRoxy always have layer you want to brush on top. click layer mask button. then make sure you select the white square that pops up next to image layer. then brush with black color. people often forget to select that part of the layer.
Thanks man
GameRoxy did that do the trick? if not, take a screen shot and upload to imgur.com and post link here.

What are you doing this on????
when i click the magic wand the brush tool isnt working
Make sure to have the layer highlighted when you want to use the magic wand. Then click layer mask or hit the delete button. This will work as long as the layer isn't locked. If it is just double click the layer first.
