Burmese Python, The Best Pet Snake?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 20 жов 2024
- The Burmese python (Python bivittatus) has one of the best personalities of any snake, and that is important because it is one of the largest snakes in the world and is powerful enough to kill an adult human. Is the Burmese python the most reasonable giant pet snake? Yes. Is it a reasonable pet snake? No. Is it the best pet snake for you? Let's see if we can help you figure that out.

You guys are so RAD!
If you've enjoyed this video about the biggest python we've ever covered, but aren't in the market for a giant snake, you should enjoy this video about the smallest python we've ever covered: ua-cam.com/video/Ke4kQ6ehlTE/v-deo.html
Clint's Reptiles can you do a video on the rainbow boa?
Thank you for this awesome video and with this beautiful Burmese python.
I want an albino green Burmese python in the near future
Hi Clint. Can you do a video on fox snakes?
Can you do videos scrub pythons and reticulated pythons, as well pet inverts like tarantulas, scorpions, mantis, and centipedes, etc.
Him: "but if you want basically a ball python that is bigger than you, eats sheep, and could potentially kill you, then the burmese python is the snake for you"
Me: “SOLD!!!”
🤣
Yep 😂 wish I had the experience to keep one and in a financial position where I could get one.
Legit!
I wish I had enough room to keep one.
Already have one adult male. He's big, but still manageable alone.
I spent 3 months alone with him to keep my section 8 roommate at bay. Yeah, I feel more safe with with a giant snake than some neuroticly psychopathic douchebag human.

I'd like to add with great volume that if a snake this size (or any of your pet snakes, for that matter) does get out, and does make the news it is a huge downfall for all reptile keepers. There are already a surplus of people that want to take our reptile-keeping rights away from us. Let's not give those people more of a reason, or add new people to the list. 👌
A very important point.
It really hurts us all because lots of evil and misguided political people want to federally ban all exotic pet snakes. It's scary to me how some people buy these animals without lots of research.
Extremely important point.
Can't agree more this is NOT the pet you buy then decide in ten months it doesn't fit your lifestyle. plz do research, and never let it get loose. It really does bring down the whole community. great point.
A Retic got out in the UK a couple of weeks ago. It was found a few days later in a tree near his home but obviously it made the national news. It's been abnormally hot for the UK so he survived. I'm sure exotic animal owners will suffer from this.
So, the short version of this video is:
Giant snakes are easier to come by than friends, and that's unfortunate :(
But also some friends end up being giant snakes so watch out!
But giant snakes that end up being friends are the best kind of friends :)

Today's the big day! Thank you all for supporting this channel and helping us reach this amazing milestone. Hopefully you enjoy this video about the biggest animal we have ever featured to cap off this giant week in Clint's Reptiles' history 😊
Clint's Reptiles I’m thinking of getting on of these but I just gotta build the cage first but other then it that I’m ready I now have quite the collection I have a bearded dragon a ball python a chameleon two box turtles and a Argentine tegu so I can Handel a berm
Why did you do a video on a Burmese pythons when it only had 13% of the poll?😂
I didn't make the video yesterday. We will make videos for all five.
Congratulations, CR team! You guys are awesome and I’m so glad you’re teaching so many people how lovable reptiles are 💚
Ok!
I'm looking forward to the 1 star review of anacondas. We sold them at the pet store I worked at in the 90s before I took over the reptile department and I was absolutely furious. I refused to sell them to people. Giant snakes should require permits, period. If you want one that badly, you should have to prove you're capable of giving it a good life.
Same with big cats, primates and venomous reptiles.
Depends your right and wrong a captive bred yellow one with expierence can be perfect but for new people it won't matter and especially if you have kids if you have kids an anconda be like a dog to it but yeah your right i think a green one should require a permit the most sorry if i make no sense
ItsYT apology accepted?
I definitely agree in theory, but the last thing i want is our inept government trying to regulate the reptile trade. Thats an extremely slippery slope to say the least.
They do regulate the reptile trade. Shipments of some animals to certain locations is banned, the keeping of some animals, etc. Some are banned, but it's mostly related to venom, not sheer bonecrushing and bleeding out capability.
🤣 "it will make an incredible impression!" This is EXACTLY how education should be; engaging, direct, honest and with enough humour to be memorable. I remember so much more of Clint's videos than any other educational content on UA-cam!
Hmmm a ball python that eats large livestock whole, weighs more than I do, and could potentially kill me🤔🤔🤔 I’ll take twelve!!!

What a beautiful snake! Like many of us who love snakes, there's a special appeal to the giants, but I'd never have one for a pet. I really appreciate the calm, straightforward way you describe the potential dangers of trying to handle these guys. Your affection and respect for the animals shines through, but you make it clear that this just isn't a pet for most keepers. On a side note, I hope you'll do a video on the Indigo snake someday :)
Clint, when I first started this amazing hobby, your advice was huge! When ever I look into a new type of reptile, I always look you up. You are one of the best when it comes finding a good straight source. Your solid and great at what you do.
Thank you so much! I'm really glad that we can be an important resource for the hobby. I hope that it helps a lot of people make an informed decision.
By the way, do you have any gum?

Worst snake mishap I ever had involved driving.
A 9 foot rat snake can tie your steering wheel to your gearshift pretty effectively.
Always have a bucket or.. something.. if you're going to drive a snake to a new home.
What? Did you just put it in the car seat and go "Eh it'll be fine."?! How do you deal with a traffic stop?...
uhhh yeah guy...you shouldnt deliver a snake in something that isnt closed................
You-you didn't use a snake bag or a bucket? My dude, that is insanely dangerous to you and the snake. Your snake could have gotten stuck under a seat, or got flung and hit something if you had to stop suddenly, or God forbid you get into a crash of some kind. You were being insanely reckless and I'm just glad you and the snake were OK.
We actually just got a Burmese male. hes only 2 months old, We already have his next enclosure ready to go , and plans to build the one after that around Christmas. We did a ton of research before bringing this guy home. We also have a few experts that we have to mentor us along this journey which I know a lot dont. If you're ever in the Detroit area, check out The Reptarium! Brian, he owns the reptile zoo. We've been there and it's amazing. He takes out whatever animal you want to hold! . With the exception of his 20 retic Lucy.
Traci Sucharski Brian Barcyzk? If it is, PLEASE don’t go there any more. He contributes to the view of reptiles as always dangerous and the way he treats at least his breeding snakes is... horrible. Like Snake Discovery, he uses a rack system but it’s completely devoid of enrichment. He doesn’t even have hides for them, the poor things. ALSO! He fully endorses breeding spider ball pythons - spiders are renowned for having neurological conditions, such as the “wobble”. Please, please, please do not support Brian.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for this Very educational video! I own two Reticulated Pythons, they are terrible pets for 99% of pet owners, Reticulated Pythons and Burma Pythons are only experienced snake owners with 4+ years of owning snakes already. I love Burmese pythons with all my heart and soul . They are lovely looking animals and astonishing to look at when full grown but they are terrible pets just like Asian Water Monitors. Good Video! I love how you stressed the cons and told people the complete truth. I own two Reticulated Pythons and I DO NOT recommend them at all as house pets. Reticulated Pythons are normally aggressive snakes, they eat a lot , they poop a lot, they average 12 feet long for males and females CAN grow up to 25 feet long rarely. Females usually 17 - 20 feet long. 300+ pounds has occurred it's possible for female Burma Pythons, African Rock Pythons and Sumatran Reticulated Pythons. They are GIGANTIC! The food bill is though the roof and they can kill you easily when in food mode once they are at least 8 feet long. That being said. I adore Reticulated Pythons and love my male/female pair of Reticulated Pythons. The 10 foot long plastic cage that an adult female retic needs is expensive. At least $900 for the adult enclosure. Same with burms.
Do a head to head of the reticulated python vs the burmese python
Great suggestion. Expect it :)
I second this
I agree I'd love to see a head to head between the Burm and Retic. I get the feeling the Burmese python would win just because they're slightly more manageable than a retic.
i would love this

There was a wonderful man who volunteered at a summer camp I went to who had two beautiful Burmese Pythons. One was a very sweet 14ft albino named sweet pea. He would bring her out sometimes and let the oldest campers help handle her. He also had a few venomous snakes, but we obviously couldn't handle them. He was the one who sparked my interest in big reptiles.
Oh boy, that's a big snake. The talk of having to feed it farm animals made me glad I only have a BCI!

This is one of the most entertaining and frightening videos I've ever seen lol. Such awesome info, presented amazingly! Burmese is *not* the pet for me. But Snowflake is beautiful. 😁
clint you make me happy and thankyou. i have severe anxiety and depression and its hard for me to wake up and just get out of bed every day is a struggle but your video helped me get up and motivated today because i get so excited to watch your videos
Lilly, have you considered getting a ferret? They're not very hard to care for and it's almost impossible not to smile when you interact with them (perhaps Clint was a ferret in a previous life :) I've also found many rats to be the same way: goofy, playful, smart, easy to care for, and affectionate -- biggest downside to a rat is that it's not going to live very long (probably no more than 3 years), so you have to be psychologically prepared to lose them.
I got one thats 14 months old and hes already 7ft long, but such a joy to keep. Hes an albino too!
I just want to say that I feel it's so under appreciated, but I absolutely love that in every video even if Clint forgets, the editing crew always add in a thermostat for any time Clint mentions a heat source. BTW Clint, loved the video snowflake looks to be such the sweetheart.
My father owned a albino Burmese years ago and he just let it go around anywhere in the house. He would just fill up the bathtub halfway with lukewarm water and it would just sit in there all the time, it was the best pet we’ve had he slept with the snake and never had a problem
That is the coolest thing ever

Dear Clint’s Reptiles,
I don’t know if you often get fan mail. But I am writing this letter to thank you and tell you how much you mean to me. And while I may not have seen you from the beginning, but I am a huge fan of your work. I love each and every one of your videos. Which is why I wrote this letter. This year I was having a rough time with life, depression, and just feeling empty. But your energy, and your videos have really helped. They made me feel like I could do something in life and something to look forward to. Every Saturday morning and now Wednesday noons I watch your videos as a tradition. And I thank you for that.
Your videos are really fun to watch. And at the end of them I learn a lot about the topic. I especially enjoy learning in topics I know nothing about like genetics. I appreciate how you remain unbiased and don’t attack people like others have, such as when you covered spider balls and the snake housing video. Your positive energy is awesome. My favorite videO is a three way tie between sand boa right snake for you, Head to Head Crocodile skink vs fire skink, and the Nike Monitor right lizard for you.
I’m also getting a snake sometime soon. It’s between two species. If you want, you could guess the species and I’ll put it in the ps. You covered one of them, the other is a water dweller famous for their temperament.
Thanks for everything,
Zuma

I love Burmese pythons!! They are such big sweethearts!
I love how it looks like a ball python that mutated into a bigger snake and vice versa
Gorgeous snake that would be cool to handle but... I think I'll stick with my bci for the time being :)
A far more reasonable choice. I'm with you.
Did you know “BCI’s” are now actually classified as their own species? They’re no longer boa constrictor imperators, they’re just boa imperators! And the “BCC’s” are just BC’s now!
You freaking kill me 😂
My possible humor induced death aside however, your honesty and bluntness are greatly appreciated. People need to really KNOW what they're getting into when they get a reptile of this magnitude. One thing I will say about this video is though is that I don't recall any mention of the lifespan of giant snakes, which is VERY noteable and relavent. Correct me if you did and I just missed it.
I absolutely love berms, the ones I've known who have been handled were all sweethearts, and I've helped people get pretty decent sized ones (15ish foot was the largest berm) get used to being held. Even if they start off highly defensive (more helpful to keep in mind when a snake strikes it's a defensive act rather than aggressive one in most cases unless they honestly think your body part is food), I've found with daily work and proper care they tend to chill out relatively quickly.
The hardest one I helped a friend work with was her slightly larger reticulated python her son never touched then abandoned with her. She couldn't handle him but wanted to do her best to keep him 'cause she felt it wasn't his fault. His enclosure wasn't the best size, but once he calmed down he was usually chilling outside it.
I may love the actual giant snakes, but after a certain point size becomes the limiter, but it isn't just for size and danger level the way many think, after a certain size their feed animals get tricky. I mean- you can go to meat markets and farms to get prekilled animals telling them not to butcher the meat for you, but it gets tricky depending on where you live... even when they don't eat nearly as often as smaller snakes.
I wouldn't want to get an animal who need to eat feed animals larger than a rat, ideally frozen/thawed- and I feel bad about that 'cause I love rats as pets... unless it was fish. Far easier to go to a fish market to get whole fish of varying sizes if you're anywhere near port cities. SO easy.
So yeah- I'd sooner have an adult alligator where they can eat a wider range of meats and I wouldn't have to feed whole mammals and whole chickens consistently- though as any other reptile they need a varied diet, than a reticulated python- but to be fair, I wouldn't have alligators either.
Though I have known someone with a young alligator and "he" was awesome- so the temptation when I was told one could be gotten for me if I wanted was greater than when I was offered a breeding pair of anacondas for free.
Though won't lie- was actually tempted at the idea of them, my brain went to turning my basement apartment into a giant snake room with the sizable bedroom turned into a pool with a waterfall for them... then I thought "Nah- I really shouldn't own anything that could kill me..." and turned them down.
Edited to add- yeah- that part with you telling people what to do is needed if you aren't with people who know- when I helped with larger snakes where it goes into "I may not die but my ribs are breaking if not other bones..." mode and up I just have an open bottle of Listerine or a strong drinking alcohol around in case something happened and I get incapacitated and seriously have seconds to get it off- I think what people forget or don't think of is every time you breathe out they constrict more, so when you try to breathe in again you can't and so on until... ugh- I hate the idea of hurting a snake, but alcohol is one of the "easier" ways with a high likelyhood of success of getting a snake disengaged- that and grabbing the tail and pulling back can make continued constricting much harder for them, if not impossible- depending on the size.
Very very intentionally I've topped out my handling of the large snakes at 15 feet, I want 2 people with me at a min, esp if I know they're quirky- the alcohol of the non-rubbing kind uncapped and ready for someone to grab, and a phone close enough so 911 can be called. Only a few times I only had 1 other person, and a few times whoever was with me wasn't experienced. I have no interested with working with larger on any kind of regular basis...
From what little I've seen, it seems that alligators can be quite chill and relaxed, particularly in comparison to their croc cousins. However, I've only seen 2 pet alligators and both are owned by reptile breeders/UA-camrs and both have issues. One is missing a leg and the other had their growth stunted. But, even if I had the room, I wouldn't want to keep a pet alligator, not unless they were puppy dog tame.
Nobody reading all of that bull 💩😂🤣
What a wonderful video! Thank you for making it clear that these giants should not be an impulse buy
I really appreciate how candid you are talking about the pros and cons of the various reptiles you showcase. I can feel your love and appreciation for them AND the cautious respect (sometimes nervousness) for these animals.

Does albinism in snakes cause poor eyesight and light sensitivity like it does in humans? I’ve never quite liked the look of albino snakes, I prefer the natural look.
It almost certainly causes some light hypersensitivity. Snakes aren't highly visual creatures, so it probably isn't as big of an issue for them though.
The giddy way Clint said "If you're handling it when it happens, it will be memorable!" about the snake poo had me giggling for 10 minutes straight! 🤣🤣🤣

I got my first Burmese Python over the weekend. She's a hatchling, barely 1 foot right now. I will have to get a restricted reptile permit when she hits 12' but worth it! So a Burmese is my next step (they're also my favorite snake). I plan on hopefully starting a reptile rescue/zoo outside of my house one day.
I had one as a child. Excited to have one of my own now.

It's so rare for me to laugh out loud on UA-cam, but somehow Clint manages with his completely unique educational videos! Thanks!
The Indian Python is basically the same snake, maxes out at 12ft. I also hear many Burm Breeders say most of their snakes stay much smaller, even females, than 15ft. Probably depends how their fed, like Boas. People overfed boas for the longest time so we thought 12-14ft boas were common. Turns out we were almost double feeding them as babies lol.
The humor trifecta: Clint, Snake Discovery, GoHerping. So much sass! Need to get them all together

You're welcome. We've increased our sound quality which makes it possible.
Outstanding video on what to CONSIDER before buying a species of gigantic python.
They are my favorite snakes ever, ever since I went to a serpentarium and had a Burmese of that exact color look into my eyes like she wanted to know more about me and her eyes LIT up when I started talking to her. They are so curious and are very easy to tame, but I will never be able to keep one because of as you said they make a bad pet for most keepers. Very very impractical. I have a dwarf rabbit, enough said.
I really enjoy your videos on "probably terrible" let's say pet reptiles. They are your funniest videos I think, and I get to learn about a reptile I otherwise wouldn't.
I would love to see one on the Green Anaconda! Another super giant snake!
I raised one burmese who was careful even around the scent of food. I could even put hand that had been holding a rabbit against his nose to guide him away from the two other snakes eating in the same cage. I never had a better rapport with a burmese or any other species of snake.
My year old garter snake passed away a couple days ago you are bringing me joy in these hard time thank you
Very informative video. I am an English teacher living in Cambodia and we found a baby burmese python living in my school. The locals wanted to eat it and I rescued it from being a meal. And I do feel that if I were to release him back he will eventually get caught and killed / eaten. I do know of an animal sanctuary that is out of the city that may be an option. But I am seriously considering keeping him/ or her as a pet.
Yay! So happy to see this video. Burmese are the snakes that made me fall in love with all the other snakes. So chilled, so beautiful.
I remember in 1996 the wrestler Jake "The Snake" Roberts in his final run in the WWF had an albino burmese python called Revelations.
Pls do a best pet video about Komodo dragons XD (yes I just wat he’s the vid from brave wilderness about a Komodo dragon and I’m in love with them again)
I have a 19 ft Retic and he is the most chill snake... I'm not a breeder so I just have the one, but as he has grown, he has if anything become more chill. He has a bedroom and bathroom to himself where he showers and bathes. He also has an 8ft commercial cage with a heater if he wants to be cozy.
Goodbye sheep! 👌
Nice video by the way
Started doing homework on the snake so I can make an informed judgment as if I want to get one or not. I have noticed that I was not subscribed. Biggest shock out of watching the video. I always say how I love the channel and if I want to get a new reptile the first thing I do is seeing if this channel has a video on it. Since we just purchased our forever home and I have a large space for all of my reptiles and have given thought of getting a big/giant snake but I want one like my ball pythons because I love how chill they are. I guess food for thought would be the high food bill.
The Burmese Python: the giant snake that gives Clint the giggles
The end gave me a huge chuckle! Thank you i needed it :)
What an amazing creature and while beautiful I'm glad I don't own one :)
I love how much I learn from you all and the beauty and quality of the production. Of course Clint you're beautiful too (like a brother) lol and you have an infectious laugh that makes me join in every time
Do I detect a retic video coming soon?? :p
I met a big ol burm at an expo in Michigan, probably 7-11 feet long, 35-45 lbs, an absolute sweetie. The guy that had him let a lady who was there with her toddler hold him, and the poor little girl LOST IT. As soon as her mom took the snake, the poor little kiddo started crying. The keeper felt soo bad, but the snake was such a sweetheart and his dad so vigilant that nothing bad could have happenes
I bought a Burmese Phyton when I was in college and had it for a long time. It was about 8 feet long, and I never had it in a cage as it pooped in the same spot and never showed aggression to any human. Not even a hiss. One day I bought a big live rabbit to feed him. It was 5 or so pounds. It ate it and curled up like it always did. Then I usually picked it up and put the snake in the shower to digest. I often ran warm water over him too to wash off the rabbit fur or anything that was on him. This snake roamed free around my bedroom and would actually move in and around my bed while I slept. It would put its body along mine I guess to get warm too. The morning after I fed that big rabbit I was going to get in the shower, and I forgot the snake was still there digesting. I tried to pick up the coiled snake and put it in the sink, and it put its open mouth on my arm. It didn't bite down, just placed its teeth on me. When I tried to get my wrist free for some reason predator mode kicked in and this snake attacked me. My wrist started to bleed, and I was like ok wtf do I do now. I'm naked in the bathroom with an 8ft Phyton wrapped around me. I tried to get its mouth off my wrist for about 30mins and resorted to all kinds of means. This snake would not release! I won't share the rest of the story because it is too sad, but my point is reptiles are unpredictable. Their primitive brains are incapable of many things. Pet lovers should know that their reptiles do not feel affection or love. The reptile brain is limited to safety. Your reptile can only at most not view you as a threat and that is it. Sometimes they get confused.
only 8 feet and you had to KILL the snake?? uhh dude ive been wrapped by 8 foot snakes on various occasion, as i mainly keep larger snakes.
I am by no means a large man, in fact, im 5 foot 4.
releasing is as simple as mouthwash in the snakes mouth or alcohol. sometimes even warm or slightly hot water works.
Dont Buy a large snake if you cant think levelheadedly in that situation.
@@SilverMusicAndGaming yeah it’s easy when you handle them and are around them 24/7. But if someone is new to owning a big snake like that and they’ve never been in that situation before, I think it’s easy to panic.
Awesome video Clint! It's so cool you are reviewing this snake because it is one of the "BIG" snakes that is awesome but is one of those pets that if you just buy it without research it's most likely going to go very bad. Burmese Pythons are in my top 5 or 10 favorite non venomous snakes and as much as I would want one later on in the future it is a "BIG" commitment and expensive. Keep up the amazing videos and the bloopers were hilarious.
I'm on Early streak this week, lol.
You're first!
@@ClintsReptiles Maybe first comment, but I was 11th. :D
If you have a extra bathroom in your house, you can fairly easily turn it into a enclosure for one
How do you feel about tegus eating honey for a treat
I wanted to learn more about reptiles because I don’t know much so I just subscribed also congrats on 100k subs
Used to have a Burmese. He was as sweet and mellow as a giant snake could be. I brought him home from the pet store as an 8', year and a half juvenile. Over the next 7 years raised him to a 13 foot beauty. In all that time, he never lived in a cage, he always had his run of the house. Broke my heart to have to part company with him when I had to move and couldn't take him with me.
I could watch those close up moving scales for hours
Should be called Caspar
People are blown away when Clint whips out his giant snake. I feel ya brother. I feel ya.
