Great start , once on the road it won't take long to see little adjustments needed.

A very informative video John. I love the way you filmed it on the floor, up close and personal. I agree with the choice of the air mattress, you definitely have the room for it in the trailer. I think perhaps the greatest challenge in camping with the Spyder is, where to shower. Now if you are in a camp ground, those facilities may be available, but if you are roughing it on your own, even with a pop-up shower tent, you likely won't have the water available.

All good ideas.. I personally use a 10 x 10 tent (I can stand up in it!!!) with a cot, thermarest, and a regular sleeping bag and a full size pillow.... I lay out a runner on the floor next to cot for the mid-nite pee.. (No cold floor...) Lots of room, and lots of storage space... All this plus more in my small trailer behind me...

I"m fairly confident that power plug connected to your battery is intended for a smart charger, if you keep it plugged in all the time your battery should last a lot longer.... Also having a tent you can stand up in helps a lot too.... The only draw back to air mattress' is that they can get a leak easily.... I tried a couple of different brands of cots, but had to add an AM because they had a slight high spot in the middle. A little hard on the hips... (sigh...) oh the joys of getting older... And I agree with Mr.Higgins, a shower tent would help, but then you have to have a way to heat the water. Cold showers are not fun, ask me how I know...

Looks great. My problem is getting up off the ground. Gravity will get me down, but without something solid to hold on to, I can't get up (bad knees and back).
Looking at a camping trailer to pull behind the Spyder.

Great video. We use to backpack when we were younger, but now we use it for Spyder camping. I'm with you on the mattress selection. I really liked your pump you use.

Fantastic job! Maybe before, during or after a few good size trips, you need to do an updated video on "stuff" you need to have and don't need to have while on the road. I follow a few different types of people on the road, mainly two wheel and three wheel, and depending in which part of the world they are travelling, they need different things. Hopefully you'll find time to go over some of this and maybe give some of your insight into what you feel you need on your trips. One of the things I have is a "hotel bag." It's a backpack with the following in it: plates, bowls, napkins, forks, spoons, knives, salt, pepper, sweetener, coffee pods, tea bags, can opener, wet wipes, germ-ex wipes, Band-Aids, Tylenol, ibuprofen, etc. I just grab it and go. I also purchased some of the compressed tablet towels. You just add water and you have a decent face towel. You can also get real size towels and even underwear (LOL). Anyway, thanks for the great video! P.S. - Don't make the mistake with your tent that I did. You need to season it by putting it up and spraying it and then letting it dry to seal the fibers. I always also put seam sealer on it and spray the tent with a waterproofing agent. Truly worth the time.

I only look for sleeping bags that are flannel lined. I have had both mummy and rectangular that are nylon lined and I sweat too much making me uncomfortable while sleeping. My tent of choice is the Eureka Kohana 6. Takes me about 10 minutes to set up to include the fly. First time, it took me almost 20 minutes reading directions along with some trial and error. In my Scouting days, I only purchased Eureka tents for myself and recommended them for my Scouts. Had a mix of dome, A frame, and bivy in those days. I also did winter camping using only tent flys to show my Scouts you can use other means than a tent. Did this also as a youth in my 7 years of Boy Scouting.

Try hammock camping off the ground best sleep ever for camping, no trees get Tensa 4 frames not heavy not bulky. After sleeping in a hammock I just can't go back to ground.

Hey John, I know it's been a while since this video but how much of your recent Spyder trips have been camping trips? I saw your videos from last year's cross america trip, as well as your videos about this summer trip to Quebec and you don't talk about camping at all. Have you let camping go completely?
I'm a Goldwing guy thinking about an RT Limited as my next ride. I'm going to demo rides this week in Valcourt Quebec, so it might give me the urge to get one faster than I thought. 😮 Thank you for your channel Miriam and John! 😉

Wow, technology sure has moved ahead. I still own most of my camping gear which has not been used in probably 30 years, including my Eureka 2-man (person?) alpine tent. I used to practice setting the tent up in our living room and had it down to five minutes....handy if it's raining. One of these days I'm going to have to try an overnight just for the fun of it and to find out if these old bones will still take it. Have fun!
