This guy is lying. He knows exactly what was done to delay the response.
I feel like they made sure to send the one guy with no "official information" on the actual question. He wouldn't be lying, if he was really kept in the dark. That said, I'm surprised a career general is willing to go in front of camera without anything resembling armor or real answers.

If it was a surprise, 8-10 hours is not bad for such a mission. The fact that it was a surprise is the problem. People in positions to plan and execute knew what was going to happen and they helped the insurrectionists. They helped by dismissing the threat and keeping the capital vulnerable. I am curious how the flowchart the National Guard uses to deploy their troops looks. There's probably a decision box asking checking if the Protestors are either black or white. And if they are black it goes straight to the immediate deployment step

Yes it took that long. Nothing can be done without orders. They cannot get rifles and live ammunition without orders from the Pentagon and that's for every state NG. Weapons cards have to be printed and distributed for accountability. Bullet proof vest have to collected and distributed. All of these take orders to be written, issued, and then cut through a chain of command. Furthermore, this equipment is not lying around at every NG "armory". Not every "armory" is an armory, it's just a name. Most of the riot gear and weapons systems are located, of course, on active duty installations, again, which requires orders to be issued and they have to know who's coming and when. Then you have to choose a mobilisation site, set the mission parameters, etc.etc.etc. Let's say this much, let's be glad it wasn't a foreign power and this will never happen again. There will most likely be an active NG unit manning DC onna rotational basis from here on out. And it won't be for traffic control.
But yet at other protests, they were there like they just took a bite out of a donut half a block away wtf

I think he is trying to be truthfull. He couldn’t have been in the room when the first calls were made by the Capitol Police but he should have been notified of the call and quizzed about the status of what troops would be necessary to answer the call. What happened next is the key. Something delayed the approval

As Jake Tapper pointed out several times in this interview, the delay was due to a lack of orders from higher ups such as the Secretary of the Army and the Secretary of the DOD. They are the ones to blame.

The General is telling the truth. If a regular National Guard force is going to be deployed (without prior notice, or being on "Alert" status), the time required is measured in several hours--not a couple of hours. If a National Guard force is in "Alert" status, then sure--they can be deployed/redeployed or re-tasked in minutes (if they are properly equipped (which includes communications), and have been briefed on their duties).

They are terrible.
First the general says it takes the National Guard 8-12 hrs to respond to a call. Later on he said they got there at 11 pm and that was great cos it’s usually a 24 hr response time. That's 2.5 hours, not 8, 10, 12, or 24 hours. TWO. And they (people inside the capitol, the Capitol Police, and the DC Mayor,) had been begging for aid and backup for HOURS before that, but were blocked or denied. Don't tell me about how long and hard it is to deploy these people. They showed up pretty fast, once they were ALLOWED to do so.
