Great video Mike! Just a couple of things to note since this is an older video and chameleon care has changed for anyone watching: 1. The 24x24x48" enclosure size is the current recommendation for Panthers, Veileds, and Jackson's. 2. Basking temps should be around 85F for males and no hotter than 80F for females to reduce egg clutch sizes. 3. Avoid misting during the day. 4. You need a T5 HO linear UVB. A 5.0/6% is recommended for a 48" tall enclosure. 5. Make sure you use calcium without D3 daily as well as a multivitamin and calcium with D3 2x a month. 6. Make sure there are lots of branches and live plants to give your chameleon places to hide. It should be hard to find your chameleon. 7. Humidity should be around 30-40% during the day and 70%+ at night.
Hi there! I'm using calcium with D3 daily for my chameleon and I don't currently have any without. Could please explain why is it bad to use it daily? I hope I didn't mess up my cham by doing this, but for now he looks healthy.
I was So waiting for an update of ur chameleons! Thanks so much Mike. .. definitely have to make sure I get real plants for mine when I get one in a month... so excited... definitely got enough info from everything I can find plus ur info really helps... can't wait to see more when u redo rangos cage... more ideas lol... favorite food I would have to say lobster... in the maritimes lol.. have a good one!
I have a jacksons chameleon, they are very similer to the veiled but very different too, my fav food would have too be venison,e and my dad hunt and we will take backstrap then roll it in flour mixed with pepper and a little salt then we will fry it up, yummm!
Nice video Mike; But why do use ??TWO?? Heat Lamps, and why do you have a plant stand on the bottom and back of the larger habitat? Is it just to support the driftwood? Thank You!! SuperSniperSal USMC Disabled Vet
I'm really wanting a lizard soon bc I'm not aloud snakes and I live in Australia so my choices are limited for QLD, thinking of a blue tongue skink, my fav food would be hot chips, mango or chicken curry 🍟🍲
i am getting a chameleon tomorrow..... the chameleon is a baby so i got a smaller cage 18x18x22 bc i heard that it can stress them out if they have too big of a cage. later in his life i will get a bigger cage
Nope that is total BS, and a sales pitch to make you spend more on cages, they are perfectly fine from a baby in a fully setup cage, I would just make sure you plant it densely with plants and hanging plants.
+Mike Tytula i just got a green iguana at the pet store. i know i should give him some time to get a justed to his new environment but im afraid hes not eating what do i do?!
Just an idea, I secured a shower curtain covering the sides and back of my cages. It's a good way to keep water from going everywhere when you spray. Lol
How come people say a big cage isn't good for a young chameleon cause it stresses them out? But in the wild they would be in the open anyways? Just a question I've been wondering about! Because you would think that they would grew up a lot happier having more space!.
The reason os cause people worry they wont find their prey in a large cage. What I've heard os to lose a few extra incests to they can find it or have a cup with a few incests when they are litte.
I noticed that you had coconut substrate, I have heard that it better if you don't have any maybe just a rubber sheet... Do you really need to clean them out or will springtails do the job?
"sometimes they eat.... um..." me: human fingers? "their plants" me: oh but I read they can bite, and I'm afraid I'd get a not so friendly one... but... I'm a person who deals with a very large animal that can kick, bite, stomp and fall off of... but I'm still too afraid of a little bite lmao
Nice video . what about calcium and vitimans? How often do you give them? I give mine calcium every feeding . d3 and multi vitimans twice a month . and just wondering if im over doing it? My favorite food is almost any kind of burger lol
I've kept a few reptiles and amphibians for my hole life ever since I was little I have loved reptiles forever. I am looking into getting a veild chameleon For about 2 years now but I'm not sure if they are hard or expensive to get into? I am just asking this just to check but I am breeding dubia roaches are those fine to feed them?
PotatoOfDestruction Honestly it's up to you I can't say whether you do or not. You are the only that knows if you have done a ton of research and are prepared to setup a correct setup for them with all the care they require then yes I would say you should be fine :)
My best friend just got a veiled chameleon today. Idk she got enough research it was kinda random how it happened. I'm not completely sure if she is taking care of him correctly. I would like to help her but I'm nit so sure how to please tell me what to say to her so he can have a happy life. Hi, hope you can help me, the information i found are mostly for cold countries.. so... here's the question: I live in Malaysia where the temperature is a constant 30-35 Degree Celsius. indoor is usually 29-32deg C. During the wet season (Nov, Dec) it might get between 27-30 deg C indoor during day time. Do you think i need a basking light ? i have a UVB light.
i got my chameleon on Sat, after i put him in the cage he ate a few meal worms. but Sunday and today , he's not eating... should i be worried......?? he's very active, climbing everywhere in the cage.
I got my chameleon at Petco so I got a kit where it came with the home and the heating bulb and the light bulb and she was turning dark and almost black with stripes then she would climb to the top and turn really green like normal so I’m thinking that it need more humidity or heat or something do you know what could help
The chameleon kit is rough... I would suggest returning that and buying the full size tank, and proper lighting as the stuff that comes in the kit is not adequate for a health chameleon.
Ok, so I have a two month old male veiled chameleon. I’ve had him for four days now. The first day I got him he snatched up a cricket and ate it. But he only ate one cricket. After that he refused to eat at all. 3 days later I started panicking, I thought he was sick. He wasn’t eating any of the crickets I was offering him!!! So, I ordered some hornworms off eBay which haven’t gotten here yet so out of desperation I went to PetSmart and bought him some live mealworms and put them in a little cup for him. I put four in there. He ate three!!! FINALLY!!! Whew! After I noticed he ate 3, i put six more in there and he ate 3 more!!! So I’m thinking that my little man Bling simply just don’t like crickets. This is really confusing to me because I know that most Chams love crickets. I’m wondering why he won’t eat them. Has anyone else ran into this problem with their chameleon or is it just my little man? I’m thinking that I’ll hold off on offering crickets for a month or two then try again when he is a little bit bigger. I bought him from Underground Reptiles and have been messaging back and forth with them about him not eating and how I bought the mealworms and he finally started eating. The person told me that it could possibly be because he is still so small and don’t want to hunt an insect that’s hopping around but to me that just didn’t make any since because they naturally like to hunt their live prey. What do y’all think?
Well I would certainly trying to get him on gutloaded crickets because the mealworms aren't all that nutritious for them, and make sure you are dusting them in calcium (Withouth d3) every feeding. You got him from UGR? Feel free to send me some photos of him on my IG and I can try and help. How big are the crickets you were trying to feed him because you can buy smaller sized crickets.
Yes, I did get him from UGR. I’m happy with him just very very worried about him. So, he won’t eat any crickets at all and started eating mealworms. Last night before I went to bed I put some mealworms dusted with the calcium without the D3 so he would have them in the morning when he woke up. I put 6 in there. He ate one and is now refusing to eat anymore. Apparently he don’t like the calcium because he was eating the mealworms all the way up until I dusted them. Maybe he don’t like the white color on the insect or maybe he don’t like the taste? I really want my Bling baby to be healthy and live a full life but I’m getting terrified that he won’t. I’ve got to figure out what to do for him. I did notice something. So, I live maybe a block from the beach so we have high humidity here. It’s a subtropical environment here. I have his home in front of this big bay window in my bedroom. I noticed that once I started pulling the blinds up and opening the window he has been happier. He will climb on the side of the cage and look out the window at all the trees that are back there. Plus I’m thinking that he is loving the fresh air and sun. Yes, I’ll most definitely follow you on IG and send you some pics of him. Is your name the same on IG? I think mine is Kidd Rave or Rave Kidd. Something like that. I never get on FB, Twitter or IG. I like UA-cam and Reddit. But I’m going to get on there simply to talk to you. Thank you so much for your help!!!
Oh yeah, it seems like you’ve heard of UGR before. Is there anything that I should know about them that would be helpful as far as buying Chams from them? I’m really wondering if Bling is wild caught instead of captive bread. I know that some of there reptiles are wild caught because they state it in some of the descriptions. Bling’s description said he was captive bread. What do you think?
He's probably enjoy the heat from the sun (UVB doesn't penetrate the glass) And typically climbing on the mesh isn't a sign of a happy chameleon. It's graphicphoenix1 on IG. If he's from UGR he's most likely WC
I typically open the window for him as well as the blinds unless it’s raining or getting dark. I actually hate insects and am petrified of those big flying roaches, so I make sure that window goes back down before it starts to get dark. Lol! They always get into any home down here where I live, no matter how clean you keep your place. So, I asked PetSmart for 1/4 inch crickets but they gave me all different sizes for some reason. I have to find a better option for buying his food. Tried the hornworms when they were small enough to feed Bling and I think his problem is the fact that he don’t like it when the insect grabs onto his face. Once the cricket grabbed his face then he was just done with them. He loved the hornworms until one of those suckers latched onto his face. I kind of understand that though. I was letting one of the hornworms crawl on my arm while I was holding him because I was trying to see if he preferred to be hand fed. All of a sudden my arm started burning. I think the damn thing was biting! Then they got big and I noticed a big round mouth with a bunch of what looked like teeth. Naahhh!!! I gave them to my neighbor for her big water dragon. They got bigger than Bling anyway since he started refusing to eat them. Also, I noticed that he prefers flying insects over anything else. I came to the conclusion that he is eating, he just isn’t eating what I’m offering him. He’s eating these little bugs that keep getting into his cage. They’re either fruit flies or fungus gnats. I think they’re fungus gnats. Never had this problem with bugs in my house until I brought my tropical plants in for the winter. Now they’re everywhere and are hard to get rid of. They do like to get inside his enclosure for some reason though. The thing about that though is the fact that they’re not dusted. Sooo... I’m going to find a way to eradicate them and start trying with crickets again. Im thinking it MIGHT work since he seems to love hunting his insects rather than having them offered up in a dish. Anyway, sorry for the late reply! Thank you for all your advice!
Is it ok to start off at a small cage.My pet store sells veil chameleon's as babies so is it ok so start off at a pretty medium to small size cage then work up.Also I've had a turtle.Does that count lol
Diamond K-Pop is Life lol I started off with a turtle too! I still have him and hes great! but starting out small would be good as long as u work your way up to a bigger one once he grows.. this way actually reduces stress in the chameleon
I've been raising a bearded dragon for nearly 4 years. i do my research better than I would on a school project. Would you think that I could do this? I really want one.
I know but since the chameleons are considered not for beginners, I was just hoping maybe having some experience with a reptile is going to qualify me(by a pro such as yourself) to care for one. Ya know?
Is the care for Blue tongue Skinks and golden skinks fairly similar? i was thinking of getting a golden in the future but its hard to find any videos about them.
I can't remember if it's in a different video I g ot a dracaena marginata I looked online it said it was safe would I go about cleaning it and the leaves with soapy water and I replace the top layer of dirt ?
Great video Mike! Just a couple of things to note since this is an older video and chameleon care has changed for anyone watching:
I need to pin this comment! I recognize my old care was pretty rough!
Hi there! I'm using calcium with D3 daily for my chameleon and I don't currently have any without. Could please explain why is it bad to use it daily? I hope I didn't mess up my cham by doing this, but for now he looks healthy.
@@altcelalalt Too much D3 is toxic for chameleons and can result in health issues that can be fatal. I suggest you get some calcium without D3 asap.
Me: Today I'm gonna go to bed early
Me at 2:30 am: *watches a few of your videos* Now I want a chameleon...
hahaha that is me as well!
My chameleon always drinks water from his bowl!! I must be lucky😂

Steak and soup! Your chameleons are looking really colorful! Is the green plastic on the cage sides there so they can climb up the sides?
Lindz Da Finz Ya that's exactly what it's for!
Icecream is nice , oh and my gecko got his stickiness back. I guess you were right about him shedding
I have a jacksons chameleon, they are very similer to the veiled but very different too, my fav food would have too be venison,e and my dad hunt and we will take backstrap then roll it in flour mixed with pepper and a little salt then we will fry it up, yummm!

Our veiled loves collared greens. If we were to get a live plant for our cage would he eat all of the leaves?
Is your name true?
KermitBob MC lol
not bad! I didnt hear you mention the type of UVB light they need...they need a T5HO 10.0 UVB or a 12% Arcadia bulb.
I'd go with the 6% Arcadia
Great Video Man!! I always wanted a chameleon but i don't think ill ever get them unless i have a lot of space.
MichaelsCreativeCreations Fair enough! You can always swing by the channel and check them out haha

My favorite food is lasonga. Nice video
What are colors do a 8-9 month old chameleon change in to?
my veiled chameleon kiwi does not like meal worms
getting a vieled chameleon this weekend yay planing on naming it rango

Cool video. My favorite food has got to be chicken.

Just an idea, I secured a shower curtain covering the sides and back of my cages. It's a good way to keep water from going everywhere when you spray. Lol
Cody Bryan Ya I need to cut something for Kia's cage but rango is fine in the manner!
nice video love your chameleons my fav food is tacos
Oscar Zapata good choice!
Would it be to start a younger chameleon in a big tank so I won't have to buy two tanks
That is okay! Depends on the size of the chameleon if you can get the temps and everything right, that would be awesome!
How come people say a big cage isn't good for a young chameleon cause it stresses them out? But in the wild they would be in the open anyways? Just a question I've been wondering about! Because you would think that they would grew up a lot happier having more space!.
I call it a cage cuz they don't fair well in glass so screen cage w.e lol
And I don't mean babies I shoulda been more specific I mean alright sized ones you would buy online or out of a store**
The reason os cause people worry they wont find their prey in a large cage. What I've heard os to lose a few extra incests to they can find it or have a cup with a few incests when they are litte.
love your chameleon and his name
how many times a day do you have to feed your chameleon
Once
Once or twice.
must you keep the light on at night?
Nope!
Do you have to feed them insects? Can you feed it tomato and lettuce?
No, they are insectivores
@@MikeTytula thanks
I have a veiled chameloen
Is the chamilian still alive
I noticed that you had coconut substrate, I have heard that it better if you don't have any maybe just a rubber sheet... Do you really need to clean them out or will springtails do the job?
I would definitely clean them out but not super regularly.
Mike Tytula thank you so much!
Would a three month old female be good in a 18x18x30 cage
What would be better a dripper or a mister
Wonke Dragons they aren’t that expensive so i would say to do both
"sometimes they eat.... um..."
me: human fingers?
"their plants"
me: oh
but I read they can bite, and I'm afraid I'd get a not so friendly one... but... I'm a person who deals with a very large animal that can kick, bite, stomp and fall off of... but I'm still too afraid of a little bite lmao
hahah it's not that bad honestly, I would much rather get bitten than fall off of a horse or something
Mike Tytula okay, cool... and yeah... that's not fun at all hah
Nikki The Fox if hour chameleon isn't friendly then I would suggest to maybe try holding a cricket everyday and have him eat it to build up trust.
Cool, thanks
I LOVE PIZZA!
Me too. 🍕🍕🍕 I LOVE IT
What type of vine is the thick vine in Rangos cage? Would you recommend natural branches or just stick to the vines?
cole sundem It's totally up to you!
How often would you recomend taking my baby chameleon out?
I TRY to take my chameleon out once a day just so he can get used to me more
+fashionbabe 77 I know this is 6 Months ago but even around now hold him everyday he wont get used to you and he will not like you hiss, bite ect
How do you know you have the right humidity???
hygrometer!
where can i get vines like you have in your terrarium?
the pets store usually
Why you have the ģreen netting around rango's cage
Arib Hassam For him to hold onto and not grind down his nails.
is it better to buy off the internet or at a pet store
slipjello Italian better tot buy at a pet store so that u can see the chameleon and look to see if its healthy! hope this helps!
does it matter if the crickets are live or dead
They won't eat them if they aren't alive
I feel you on that I love my moms spogety

adamallup reptiles that's my dusting schedule, I dust every feeding
My favorite food is burritos
how many times a day do you feed a chameleon
batman _840 I would suggest releasing crickets in the morning and then eating him snack on them throughout the day
What lights do you recommend exactly? I'm confused.
You want something like the reptisun uvb fluorescent bulbs, and a 45-50 Watt basking bulb.
which is a really good deal

Its hard to care a chameleon?
Just do some research.
Thumbs up Bro :)
I like maple syrup because I'm Canadian

I've been raising a bearded dragon for nearly 4 years. i do my research better than I would on a school project. Would you think that I could do this? I really want one.
+TheSuperblade7 Raising a beardy and a chameleon are two way different ball games so if you decide you want to just do a bunch of research!
I know but since the chameleons are considered not for beginners, I was just hoping maybe having some experience with a reptile is going to qualify me(by a pro such as yourself) to care for one. Ya know?
TheSuperblade7 Im no pro haha. But nah if you do enough research chameleons are fine as beginners
You've bred them, which makes you a pro to me. I subscribed to you so keep doing your thing!
Is the care for Blue tongue Skinks and golden skinks fairly similar? i was thinking of getting a golden in the future but its hard to find any videos about them.
