I hated "liking" this video because I definitely don't like it. It's so depressing. Hopefully it was just a random thing, that would be bad enough, but in our present climate, I talk to many other gay people and hopefully without sounding paranoid, a lot of us don't feel as safe any longer. I have to admit that I feel safer here in South Florida, it's definitely more cosmopolitan and diverse. My partner and I live in an over 55 age condo, after owning four single-family homes over the last 30 years, and we've been here 5 years and love it. It's a beautiful community, and there are three units with gay couples including us in our building which has eight units. Yes the majority of people here are straight but nobody bugs us and everybody is pretty friendly. We're about 25 minutes north of Wilton Manors, which I'm sure you guys know is the very gay neighborhood and we visit there at least every other week. My partner and I don't live a 24/7 gay gay gay lifestyle, but it's nice having it nearby. It's unfortunate that politics have made us feel less safe. If you guys ever come down this way, we'll show you around if you like. BE SAFE. ❤️
Better get camera's. Also may be time to have a block party and see who doesn't come.
Speaking as a gay man, you sir ARE the political problem. I was in LE for over 20yrs in a major "diverse" city and let me tell you that your cosmopolitan gay neighborhoods and bars were constant victims of robbery, theft, assaults, batteries, and murders. That wonderful "diverse" element of the population you proudly speak of targets men like you on a daily basis. It surprises me you don't live in one of those bastions of progressive perfection like Portland, San Francisco, or NYC and choose to risk your life down in sunny red state FL next to all those horrible American patriots.
I'm eternally grateful that you weren't hurt but so glad it wasn't intentional.

I hate that happened, but don't over think it. I live in the Bible Belt of Louisiana and we have never been faced any kind of hate. We were together for 34 years. He passed 3 years ago and I still live here. All my neighbors are very friendly. Hope you have a long happy life in y'alls new home
I'm with you and share your sentiments. I live in the hills of East Tennessee and feel like I live in the safest place on earth.
I don’t mean to undermine anyone’s sense of security, but threats of violence against ALL minorities have recently increased. We also have a former president who is stoking this intimidation. I was involved in 2 workplace shootings in the course of nine months in a city which was widely considered safe. This had the effect of causing permanent damage to my nervous system and I now live with severe PTSD.
Please seek professional help from a counselor or psychiatrist if you have lingering feelings of depression or anxiety. Also don’t be surprised if you have trouble sleeping, feel angry, or if your relationship develops some friction. These are all normal responses to trauma and there is help to be had in sorting it out.

I agree with you. Some of these queens are looking for a reason. My boyfriend and I live in very conservative central Wisconsin. All Catholic. We are loved by our neighbors and fellow community members. I couldn't live anywhere else.

Yes, there are guns everywhere, but responsible gun owners make sure their gun is empty before cleaning. I was raised with guns, and I was taught this.

It made me nervous and uneasy when I first clicked on this.....and I'm truly feeling for you two. That would change my whole world if something like that happened. I'm older and have moved back to where I grew up here in VA. But I'm always leery about my surroundings and people, even in a town/city, I have always felt confident and safe. Even living in a 55 plus building for three years. It's not managed the way it should be and younger come and go and usually the ones making noise and causing issues we don't normally have. People have changed, I've noticed it in male cousins/uncles even aunts, used to be friends, thanks to this political atmosphere and to a particular person who's a bit of a cult leader. I think it's strange how the neighbor reacted. Why didn't he call the police to report what happened (if that's the way it really happened) immediately in case he had shot someone across the street in another house? This was something, no matter, that the police would surely be involved in either way. He wasn't too shook up either, very calm. I realize he shot out his own window as well, which is weird. Why are you cleaning a gun in your house, what is the need if you haven't used it, or maybe he's used it a lot. Further investigation is needed and I hope the detectives dig a bit deeper. So very sorry this happened and I truly hope it gets to be water under the bridge. Stay safe. Much love.

Well, where I live, most likely the police would have taken that guy’s gun from him and he would’ve been charged with some sort of negligence. Even when you were talking to him he seemed a bit too casual about what happened. He is not a responsible gun owner and should not be allowed to have one.
Could not agree more! The gun owner should have faced some kind of consequences. But...Florida (and I write that as a former resident).
Agree. I didn't care for the neighbor's response, and the fact that he hesitated before even answering the door to the police is telling. It just seemed lacking remorse and a sense of the gravity of the situation with kind of an "oh well, shit happens, sorry bout that" response. I don't own a gun, but would have been absolutely mortified if I had done that, and could not have owned it and apologized enough, even if an absolute accident. I'm not against the right to bear arms, but people have to take their responsibilities seriously when it comes to that. These guys are far more forgiving than I would have been. Even if not a targeted incident, I'd honestly be concerned about having a reckless gun owner next door. I lived in semi-rural Texas for years and never had that happen.
Talk about being irresponsible. That neighbor should at least be fined for what he did. Too crazy for words. He should be painting your house and mowing your lawn. Damn. Glad you guys are okay.

Friends were the 1st gay married couple in town. They’d been married for just a couple months and were setting next to each other one evening watching TV in their 2nd story apartment. They heard glass breaking and one of them slumped over. He died instantly. The bullet had traveled from a block away from some people in their back yard. New gun and they didn’t mean for it to go off. They thought the bullet went into the air. Very sad situation.

Anyway, you gotta be real ignorant to think like this or just lucky, because the truth of the matter is gay people, colored people, women, and certain groups of people are absolutely targeted more depending on where you live. Gay people are absolutely target and experience high amounts of violence or discrimination and it nice to think otherwise.
I would say, "Welcome to Florida," but that wasn't very welcoming. This state can be very challenging at times. We've been here for more than 25 years now and we live in a city with a large gay population and we've had people yell expletives at us just walking our dogs. Don't let it phase or affect you. You two are wonderful and I hope you have a long and happy life together.

Guys we moved down from NYC going on 2 years now. There is nowhere that is safe anymore. You have to make provisions for where ever you live. Our home is surrounded by a high wood fence and security camera's. No one should have to go to that type of extreme but we are living in an upside world. The TV/Movies contribute to mass hypnosis and people are too dumbed down to know any better. I'm sorry to say but it's going to get worse. Being victims of a hate crime we know far to well the ignorance and extremes that people will go to vent out their hatred and bigotry. At the end of the day you both love each other and just support one another don't let fear rule your lives...

I don't feel good about this. I hope I'm wrong but I'm not surprised. My brother bought a house in Lake Havasu and the locals vandalized his house because he was gay. Then they did it again and again, with death threats, until he moved out. He lasted a few months. You moved to MAGA gun country. You got an explanation and a believable heartfelt apology about the "accident" but be careful. You guys are tough but your flesh can't dodge bullets. I'm going to try and be positive. Situations like this were why the NRA was originally started - gun education and safety, not to promote access to murder weapons.
Guy cleaning his gun has no business owning a gun if he's that irresponsible. You do not clean a gun when it is loaded, nor do you take a chance cleaning a gun without checking and double-checking all bullets are unloaded. Seriously.

My goodness, you guys are so lucky you are not hurt by this. Canada has much more stricter laws than USA, but we still have guns going into criminals hands and crime is rising more than ever here also. I am happy to see it wasn't a crime and the person manned up for his mistakes. Most people would never admit to it.

My husband and I live in a 55+ community in Pinellas Park. I had taken visiting friends to the St. Petersburg pier the same day you guys were there. I was fortunate not to have a bullet shot into my home while away. After being informed the shooting was an accident, what changes have you made to your home. Your house has a pool. Have you had your first pool party?

My house has been egged several times and my mailbox has been destroyed twice. I've had window peepers and drive by screaming slurs but fortunately there haven't been any bullets...yet.

The neighbor’s gun went off and he didn’t make a bigger deal out of it? If I had a gun that went off, I’ll be going crazy like oh my Gosh, something happened. I’ll be checking all my neighbors being like “oh my gosh, did y’all get hit my gun went off”. The fact that he was just like well it couldn’t have hit anyone, it’s concerning and definitely a negligent gun owner. Probably should not have any if he didn’t think to empty his gun before cleaning it. Glad y’all are okay and you weren’t home. Definitely being looked after. ♥️

That guy should never be to have a gun again. He could have killer someone. That is so rare to happen, it’s pure negligence on his part. Mistakes happen, but guns do kill people, and one mistake is one too many. Also get your neighbor to put in writing that he will pay for the fix. Give him estimates and a time you want it fixed by. So glad you’re okay
