Hi, my name is Emi. I'm born in raise in small town just outside Quebec City, this is where my lovely accent comes from. My #vanlife story starts in September 2018. After a long-term relationship that I was trying for more than a year to rebuild, I decided it was time to end this toxic relationship once for all. This is where I decided to move away from this man that I was still in love with. I put all my belongings inside my SUV (GMC Jimmy) and moved six hours from where I was living. I didn’t know where I would sleep, didn’t know where I would work, but I knew I needed to make a drastic move. At that time, I told myself I would only sleep in my car for a month while looking for a place to rent. What I didn’t know is that one month became another month and another month. In the end, I end up sleeping in my car for a full year. Even if people consider this the lowest time of my life, this experience was the best thing I couldn’t have done with my life. I took that year to focus on myself, decide what I wanted, and most importantly, what I didn’t want. That year made me also realize that for so long, I was chasing the wrong dreams. I was chasing what society wanted me to be: to have a big house, a steady job, kids, get married… None of those dreams was making me happy. In September 2019, while I was actively looking for a van, I received a phone call that someone had found my cat (Kelly). After trying for hours with no success to communicate with my ex-boyfriend (who was taking care of her), I decided to drive the six hours to go pick her up. Without going into too much detail, it turns out he wasn’t able to take care of her anymore. So I brought her in a cat kennel for a couple of days until I found a van we both could live in. I put all the savings that I had accumulated while living in my car and bought my van (a 2011 Ford Econoline that I end up adding a hightop) In the beginning, It wasn’t so glamour. My cat and I were sleeping on a mattress on the floor of the van. We both had to adjust. Now, my cat loves this lifestyle as much as I do; she looks at the window while I’m driving, and she loves exploring new places. Since then, my cat Kelly and I have been living full-time in my self convert van.

I broke down on express once with my 2 little ones, a trusted truck driver gave me a ride back to my home exit, saved my day!!

I had never seen groundhogs until I moved to my current home in western NC USA. People who were born here call them Whistle Pigs. For some reason, that name brings a smile to my face. Enjoy the sunshine!

We have the yellow bellied marmots here in BC, and they also get called whistlepigs.😂
i was a truck driver for 25 years and that was respectful of you!!!! lot get mad at us on the road sometimes...but they need to remember. the highway is are office, are work place.........
Always be respectful of truckers. My mother married a few🙄. We were taught to imagine walking with a wagon full of bricks. Struggling going up a hill imagine someone stopping/standing in your way. Same with going down hill. My daughter & I road tripped to Texas after I bought her a car. She saw the Truckers & said immediately her thoughts were "heavy wagon". Keep on truckin safely!

The road that you so wisely chose is 5A, it is the old road to Kamloops, much easier on fuel and less hills than the main road. Because I use to drive commercial I enjoy trying to figure out where you are. Stay safe and ty for being respectful of the truckers and all the others on the roads.

@@robertklinker3237 I randomly realized I'm allergic to soy basically, so for me tofu is a no go, unfortunately. So, for some is heathy and others not, apparently.

I like to follow professional truckers on road trips---just hang back a few hundred meters---especially if the route is unfamiliar to me. I'm in the north Okanagan this weekend as well---going to the open mic/coffee house at the Eagle Bay Hall (7pm Saturday). Loving the sunshine, too, but a tad disappointed that "fridge weather" was so brief this winter.

Kelly is just the cutest thing! When I turn on the wall heaters I tell my cat “I’m turning on the sunshine for you!” Hs knows what sunshine means and comes right to the heaters. We don’t get a lot of sun in my apt. 😕

Hello, Robbin here. Sorry for being negative in my last comment about your leaky roof top. I’m sure everything will be okay, and it’s great you’re having someone look at it. I had a van and a truck camper I was converting and both times mechanics took advantage of me and I couldn’t complete them in California. My daughter and I and my grand baby moved to Arizona a couple of years ago and got a little off grid property and I”m converting a tiny hose. My daughter is concerning a class C motet home. I still would like to convert a van in the future. Your van is very nice and inspires me. I hope to order your cook book soon. Take care.

I found a website called Home Exchange and because of that I was able to book places in BC for free!!! (In exchange of letting people stay at my home in Lévis QC... What a cool concept!!) I'll be in Squamish July 12-19!!! Then in Vancouver for the Celebration of Light!! It snowed again here so knowing I'll be in BC in July gives me hope!!! ❤

5:08 If you hold that jug so that spout is at the top, it pours much easier and you don't spill as much. I know it's counter intuitive, but that's the way you're supposed to do it, hole on the top and pour that way ;^)

Truckers are the best. I was drivibg my little Hobda thtiugh such high wibds I coukdn't even ooen tge car door to get outvat the restvarea so I keot going. I came to a place where there was a deep drop off on the side of the road with even stringervwinds. Truckers surrounded me to protect me from the wind until it was safe. Thank you for this lovely video. I love open spaces and I love the mountains. 🌄

I see your rust is coming back on the under part of the van...the sides...you should try that stuff called T-Rex bed liner...you can roll it on and it helps protect against Rust..and its also waterproof...look into it ...might help with all the rust your getting ...has many benefits...I only listed a few for ya ...if you do roll it on ...I would start from the line on your van and go down from there...might help with the water running down the van to the bottom...
covering the rust does not stop it. it simply eats away til the metal is toast.
