    Toe is one of those bands that makes it very clearly that instruments know a language much more passionate than our own

    03:58 to the end i'm literally losing my shit. that's some of the best drumming i've ever heard. you can legitimately feel emotion from it. and then guitars are like god damn sugar on top of this are you kidding me god damn life is amazing

    @khoafilm both are great bands...I listen to Explosions in the sky too. Both gives me different feeling when listen to them. I like slow build up in Explosions in the Sky music, great for studying. But when I'm working or doing something in front of my computer that need some spirits, I listen to TOE. I love the energy that they bring :)

    @Allytherevepavillion 13 років тому +2

    @racheeep I would agree man. You can interpret the emotions of the music into your own way. Whereas with lyrics its more direct to a certain feeling or agenda. Maybe also because it is just one voice as a pose to two guitars a drum and bass too. It's louder so it stands out more. There are more ideas being thrown into the pot if that makes sense.

    I'd agree. In fact, what I love about all these instrumental/Post Rock (I do my hardest to avoid the term) bands is they're are as unique as the people to make it. You can tell the difference between Mogwai and Godspeed!, and GIAA and Fridge. I know few genres where the bands are so different from each other, and I love that. BTW, EITS are incredible musicians and disciplined as well.

    I'd never known what the hell does this drummer do to make his snare sound like this. I absolutely love it but I have no clue how he does it. I believe both drumheads in the snare are all tensed up, but other than that, Does anyone know any other thing that he could be doing?

    • @Rougeneiara
      @Rougeneiara 10 років тому +5

      It's probably where on the drum head he's hitting. It sounds like accented hits are closer to the rim, while the unaccented are closer to the center of the head. In combination with a tighter / harder head, it sounds pretty close to a marching band snare mixed with a classic set snare.

    • @PostInquiry
      @PostInquiry 9 років тому +2

      Elefantiago S. if you're talking about the ringing resonance he's getting it's called a rim shot. it's hitting the rim and the head at the same time, imagine the stick lying flat across the drum and it is a really nice affect!

    • @tomoyaok2854
      @tomoyaok2854 9 років тому +3

      Elefantiago S. I think he uses an Ludwig acrolite snare. There is also a mute inside the snare.

    • @ThatDereKid
      @ThatDereKid 9 років тому +2

      +Elefantiago S. It's a metal snare, tightened a lot, and tuned relatively high. There may be some other stuff going on but if you took a metal snare and did that you'd probably be somewhere close to it. Also, like someone else said, he does some to hit his accents toward the outer edge of the head.

    • @jamiebradley7057
      @jamiebradley7057 7 років тому +1

      It's an old Ludwig Acrolite and he's mostly playing rimshots, ya.

    @Allytherevepavillion I think it is not so weird, because I am sure that all the good musicians have come across songs that they have written and they have thought 'There are not actually words that can describe the emotions of that song'

  • @nickcharles33
    @nickcharles33 12 років тому

    Explosions in the sky is simplistic, but the case could be made that its intentional. I've never been one for genres but EITS come closer to post-rock instrumental, while Toe definitely has math-rock aspects. Both are good bands.

    @roxyyeticy this is Math-Rock not Post-Rock, dont compare two different genres with eachother. Toe is a math rock band that uses the times and phrases of Math and the chord progressions and harmonies of post rock, more so the progressions of Do Make Say Think than Explosions anyway. Explosions kicks ass in the porst rock world, Toe is a great math band.

    well said, I agree that EITS probably sounds simplististic intentionaly, and if you listen to other Toe songs they are defenitely more Math-rock
