Great Video on this lens. Picked it up and amazed as how good the IQ is on this lens and size and weight. Love not having to carry an extra lens due to having 20mm in this lens. Now Sony needs to make a small compact tele zoom or 135mm to compliment this and make for a great travel combo. To deal with the f4 in low light, I carry a 35mm f1.8. That works well for me. Yes I would love the 24-70 GM II but only because it's a "GM" but had another 24-70 f2.8 and didn't carry it because it was too large and heavy. So I'm happy with this one.
Jason, I've got a HUGE favour to ask... If you still have the lens, are you able to test this out with the smallrig magic fiz follow focus on the zoom ring. I wanted to know if it would be strong enough to turn the zoom. Basically instead of manual focussing I want to see if I can rock the zoom instead basically. I'd appreciate that, if you can't then of course I understand
This is great. This is the prefect 'kit' lens to end kit lens. Now if Sony can reboot their incredible 90mm macro lens with better focusing capabilities and silent motors. As a predominantly still shooter with a sprinkling of video, these new lens (11, 15, 10-20mm crop sensor lens and the newer FF lens) are spectacular in image quality. Looks as if Sony will include aperture ring in all their news lens, yeah.
Here's what I wish someone had told me a few years ago: "Don't ever switch to full frame. It is not an upgrade. All of the lenses are sooo big and expensive and I never want to take them out hiking or traveling anymore!!" Wish I had stayed on aps-c and will definitely switch back eventually
5-6 months and retailers will drop the price due to low sales and we will see it on B&H and Adorama on sale for $899 which is a more fair price for this lens... If you compare this to the Sigma Art 24-70 f2.8 its a no brainer, Sigma is a better pick. I think people who are looking for a mid range zoom they care more about the low light performance and bokeh quality more than taking a step back to get a wider frame. On the other hand, when it comes to VIDEO... I think newer Sony cameras can easily handle F4 with a set ISO 12800 in low light situations (might not be as cinematic with nosier bokeh, but doable). When it comes to PHOTO, it is definitely not a lot of room lowering your shutter and get clean, sharp images, since your shutter should be double your focal length and over ISO 3200 photos get noisy. This lens would be more interesting with an INTERNAL ZOOM for gimbal work like their new G 16-35 F4, but hey... there is an 18-105 F4 G OSS... This is a really unnecessary release from Sony. It is time to give an update for the 16-35 F2.8 GM :)
It’s not meant for people shopping for a f2.8 standard zoom, its an alternative to the 24-105 G, its the optical formula shifted to put the extra angle of view on the wide end
@@greyspaniard yeah I get it, but there is so many other lenses Sony could have came out instead of this... there is an 18-105 F4 G OSS lens already, not sharp like this but that is an option for wider angle zoom. Sony should really focus on getting the 16-35 GM an update, even tho it is still a beast, I personally own it... or get a 24 f1.8 FE lens as a budget option for filmmakers just like the 35 f1.8 FE or 85 f1.8 FE and the list goes on... this is just so unnecessary, also overpriced a little bit. Not a lot of people will buy this.
@@g_lantos Sony G zooms have a long shelf lives as products, look at the 18-105 F4 G OSS, released in 2013 (an APS-C lens), which was sold as the kit lens for the FS5 and still sells for near MRSP new. The 16-35 GM II is very probably slated for a Spring announcement like the 24-70 GM II was last year. The 20-70 G will do perfectly fine in the long run.
@@greyspaniard You missing the point. My point wasn't about "if its going to do fine or not in a long term" my point was there is so many other lenses Sony could have came out instead of this. There is a bigger need of a budget 24mm f1.8 prime option or an updated wide angle GM than this. Sony lenses will do just fine no matter if it breaks the bank in sales or not. I am pretty sure Sony will survive even if this won't be the "hot pick" for 2023 :D No need for going back and forth. My opinion as a Sony shooter was what I said the first place. If you don't agree with me, that's okay, that's your opinion, but no need the back and forth.
Wait till Sigma steps up and offers a lens that’s similar and takes care of all the faults of this one. & yes….there’s faults. It’s an f4, no stabilization & no internal zoom. Save your money and be patient
Sigma doesn’t offer stabe on anything not meant to be telephoto or sport oriented, they have also made no internal zooms in their mirrorless native line up. You might be waiting a while or forever
I love sigma lenses but lets be real bro -sigma fe lens wont have stab (none do i think) -sigma fe lens wont be internal zoom (only one that is is an apsc lens) -sigma lens will be big af -will also suffer faults -but at least cheaper by half

The 24-105 is also an incredible lens for sharpness, but it is a BIG lens. This new offering is what the doc ordered.

I am a zv e10 user, do u think is it a good idea to buy this lens if i plan to upgrade to full frame in future ?

Why you downplaying oss now but when you made the 24-105 vid. You were raving about it even tho the camera had ibis and active steadyshot?
With the older 24-70mm lens the oss didn’t seem to make any difference compared to the ibis and AS. These are the results I have found
The OSS is great for the 70-105 range but from 20-50 IBIS has you covered for photo
