    About Trailmakers:
    In the toughest motoring expedition in the universe, you and your friends will build your own vehicles to cross a dangerous wasteland. Explore, crash horribly, use your wits to build a better rig, and get as far as you can with whatever spare parts you find on your way.
    Welcome to the Ultimate Expedition!
    Journey over grueling mountains, hazardous swamps, and bone-dry deserts on a distant world far from civilization - it is just you, your fellow adventurers and the amazing, jet-powered hover-buggy you built yourself. Explore, crash your vehicle, build a better one, and get as far as you can with whatever spare parts you find along your way.
    Trailmakers is about building very awesome vehicles and machines, but you don’t need an engineering degree to get started. The intuitive builder will get you going in no time. Everything you build is made from physical building blocks. Each block has unique features like shape, weight and functionality. They can be broken off, refitted and used to build something new. Individually the blocks are fairly simple, but combined the possibilities are endless.
    Expedition Mode is the challenging campaign mode of Trailmakers. You are competing in an off-world rally expedition with only a few building blocks to get you started. You must build, tinker with and rebuild your machine to progress. Journey through a big world, overcome deep gorges, angry wildlife and dangerous weather to progress and find new parts that will juice up your machine. The world in Expedition Mode will test your survival skills and ingenuity.
    Sandbox Mode is where you want to head for an unrestricted, sandbox, vehicle-building experience. Here you can build anything you can dream of, and play around with it in the world of Trailmakers. It is a great place to test out crazy machines, and experiment with the physics engine. With tons of different blocks, hinges, thrusters and interactive vehicle parts - the skybox is the limit.
    Trailmakers is even more fun if you play it with other people. Build cool vehicles and compete in mini-game modes with your friends or other Trailmakers online. Build a helicopter, send it to your friend, and shoot them out of the sky. Put two seats on a tank, and let your friend control the turret. As we get further in Early Access development Expedition Mode will also be adapted to multiplayer.

    Missed the obvious fix for the wobble. Inherent design of the original is that diagonally opposite paddles are in the water at the same time. That's why you are rocking. You need your paddles to trot like a horse.

    you need to stagger the paddles. make the diagonally opposing paddles hit the water at the same time so it prevents oscillating the boat.

  • @brei2670
    @brei2670 2 роки тому +34

    The original construction seems to be pretty genius. Instead of the usual water wheel approach for leg powered boats, he went for a more complicated mechanism, but a more efficient one.
    Only one oar at a time is in the water, and only for the brief moment it provides thrust, so they cause little drag unlike a water wheel would.

      @AgentWest 2 роки тому +3

    Done some digging and looks like this mechanism is the brain child of Matt Walters designed to compete in 2019 MR340, a human powered race to go 340 miles in 34 hours down the Missouri River. It appears that he has built several versions of the boat, starting with one person - two paddles, and up to three people - four paddle 'Kraken' race boat. In one video he refers to the mechanism as "Boff Drive", though that name by itself does not bring up anything related.

    • @AgentWest
      @AgentWest 2 роки тому

      @@trolly4233 It's simple, really. :D
      In image search i started with "paddle boat". No (relevant) results. Then "pedal powered boat". Getting closer, but still nothing useful. Then i decided to be more specific about the type of boat. Tried combinations of "pedal", "paddle", "human powered" and so on with "racing shell". One of the Goog's suggestions was "scull", a type of long narrow row boat looking more like the one in the GIF, so tried it as well. Eventually waaay into a page i spotted a small picture of one of the pivots of this mechanism. That image linked to video of a guy talking about the mechanism (in particular, how making some pivots spring-loaded increased efficiency and reduced splashing when paddle entered water). From there i looked for his name and learned about the boat race, as well as his other boats with the same mechanism.
      TL;DR: Tried to be as specific in as few words as possible about the vessel from the GIF + luck.

    So I'm pretty sure its something like a 90 degree off-set between front and back drive hubs would've had a very drastic improvement on the bouncing and therefore a commensurate reduction in drag allowing for a marked performance/speed gain. Also the boat in the video had outriggers behind the driver which would have also assisted with the rocking.
    In order to not have the legs get out of sync with each other would probably require another logic circuit in there somewhere to check their alignment with the compass or something

  • @Poldovico

    Also they're slightly lower than the main body to apply a bit stronger force for their smaller size though idk if Trail makers will take this in to account.

    I give Scrapman's creation 60% reality points. The real paddle legs were linear.
    Like the legs were on each side of the T shape not V shape the way Scrapman did to his build also the real paddle legs weren't moving in sync like the one Scrapman made.
    The legs closer to the operator are moving faster and the second pair of paddle legs are moving a bit slower ( and the "knees" were a bit lower than the first pair). Look closely to the leg paddles and tell me I'm wrong.
    So yeah 60% for ScrapPaddleLegsBoat.

That would probably provide counter torque as well and stop the rocking back and forth motion as well.

    The reason your speed doubled when you doubled rotation speed is your max speed is how fast you can move the water (also depends on if you have enough power to overcome drag) so when you doubled the power nothing happened because you already had enough power (your acceleration got better tho). But for some reason you thought your speed doubled when you got the second pair when it only increased from 9 to 11 so it was diminishing returns lol. Btw the bobbing got less because your sail has a resonance frequancy depending on its mass, shape, enviroment and your initial rotation speed happened to match that, meaning the bobbing caused by the rotation kept adding up (just like swings)

  • @mtaliaf91

    I wouldn't call it a paddle board, it's a custom built hydrobike in recumbent position with quad paddles. (Still not found online, but better description)

    7:40 "Wow, that added like 100%."
    Well, with only the two legs, it kept a consistent 8 km/h.
    With the four legs, it only increased to keep a consistent 11 km/h.
    Is it just me, or is that not even 50%?

    Suggestion on the original the front right and left rear paddles would be down at the same time while the left front and right rear paddles would be up.

    *your comments are turned off on your destruction mod video, I'd suggest Multiplayer Monday + destruction mod + king of the hill or something would be awesome*

    If the main body is standing still and the ores are moving at 22 km/h then you would expect the maximum speed of the main body to be no more than 22km/h if you maximize the ore contact with the water by adding ores.

    I think if you gave one pair a -90 degree and 90 degree offset on either side along with the pair that has a 180 degree offset you'll get less bouncing as well. That and I don't think you'll need to worry about them being in sync.

    You made the paddles at same side in sync, but in the reference video paddles are crossed. Left front in sync with right back and right front is in sync with left back. Please do a ramake with this setup.

    Watching this and really hoping he realizes all 4 paddles are actually spread out in increments of 90 degrees, so one is essentially always hitting the water, but so far.... (-_-

    MM idea everyone has to make a track and a theme for that track so there are 3 rounds at least and everyone has to build something in 15 to 30 minutes for that track but you cannot use the same vehicle for other tracks and they race but the maker of the track cannot put a shortcut that the others dont know about.(doesn`t necessarily have to be a track it can even just be a tile to race or battle on)

    Imagine how weird in real life it must feel to pedal one side forward and one side backwards, especially if you go out of synch.

      That's not how it works in real live. They just use a rudder.
