David VanVranken David, what most bodhràn players want is what many people would call a stock, both traditional and modern styles. From 9-14mm, parallel, and on mine I like a nice 1" long nail in one end to add some weight if I'm playing with a louder crowd. People like www.tippermaker.de/index.php/en/shop/macassar-tipper
know bodhráns and bodhrán players, and the straight stick, brushes and even the more radical whipper tippers are what you'll see among the new breed of players, hell I've played a week in Kerry with a strippef branch from an ash tree

Not sure why you hate the "bbq stick" tippers as I'd use them for the brushing sound they make. Still my favorite tippers are the ones Brian made for me.
