In this song Willie probably wrote the greatest heartache song of all time. It is amazing to hear how his singing voice developed over the years, you can hear it in this song. He learned phrasing, and how to move the mic around to produce subtle changes in volume.
yes I just played his original studio version & this back to back and I prefer this one. While his voice was good when he was young, it definitely got better with age. Terrific talent.
I'm just gonna say it, "Crazy" is the best sad song of all time. You can argue some others, but Crazy has got to be up there. No other song is as beautiful and as heart wrenching at the same time. Willie out did himself, but then Patsy knocked it out of the park.
Strangely he shopped it around and no one wanted it till Patsy's manger brought it to her. She had tried one of his songs before and was like no way, but the manager said Patsy do it your way! The rest is history. Like Willie's version here though.

I wasn’t brought up in a racist household but I remember saying “I don’t smoke but I’d smoke with that white guy. He seemed cool as hell…”… years later, I find out that that “white guy” has some of the best songs I’ve heard ever in music, let alone country and I’m still ashamed of myself!!!!

I asked “I didn’t know you liked Willie Nelson..” She was hot based on what she said next “THATS NOT A WILLIE NELSON SONG!!! ITS PATSY CLINE”… I almost looked like a fool until I learned Nelson wrote the song… I do love this version better though!
This here is the best version of the song. I like male vocals better, especially the kind of laid back with good phrasing ones like Mr Nelson here. It brings the human nature of the voice and doesn't make it sound like an instrument.
