'Give Me a Billion Dollars': Naomi & Mehdi on Trump’s Latest Corruption Scandal | Unshocked

- Earlier this month, former President Donald Trump put his brazen corruption on full display for America’s top oil executives, promising to rollback the Biden administration’s environmental policies as he asked for a small campaign donation of $1 billion.
“It's almost a caricature of big oil. It's like a scene out of Hollywood movies,” Mehdi says, in this latest episode of ‘Unshocked.’ “You've got the presidential candidate sitting in his wedding holiday resort in Florida eating chopped steak with 20 big oil executives saying, ‘Give me $1 billion and I'll make you $100 billion.’ ”
Since that first meeting was reported, Trump has only doubled down on his quest for big oil money, visiting Houston last week to meet with fossil-fuel execs, just days after the city suffered their own climate disaster.
“The oil companies must have been just so stunned because they're not hurting. They are posting record profits. All of these wars are fantastic for their bottom lines,” Naomi Klein tells Mehdi.
In their latest conversation, Mehdi and Naomi explore what’s really behind Trump’s “drill baby drill” obsession, and what it says not only about our future, but also about the right’s preoccupation with brute force, masculinity, and of course, climate denial.
“You are here on this planet, and you do have to navigate and negotiate with the force of nature, which is actually stronger than us,” Naomi said. “I think that is perceived by people like Trump as an insult to their masculinity, like the idea that nature is speaking back to them and that their worldview really is about a hierarchy where you have white men at the top.”
Look out for “Unshocked” with Naomi Klein every month, where Naomi and Mehdi will provide deeper analysis on current events, religion, politics, ideology, and more.

Mehdi Hasan + Naomi Klein = such a great combination of insight and honesty ❤❤❤
Netanyahu and Trump needs to be pushed out of politics
And Biden , Sunak & Starmer!
Pushed, yes, into a prison cell 😉
Biden Farage Tommy robison
i was expecting that sentence to end with a window! :D lol
Yeah push out into the office, soon.
Both Trump and Biden be damned !
I am voting for Jill Stein.
@@evelyndominguez4757Awesome, that worked out great in 2016. Those 3 Supreme Court Justices Trump got to appoint because of Jill Stein voters in Michigan and Pennsylvania have really made our country better, haven't they? Looking forward to the 2 more Trump will appoint after he wins this year and Alito/Thomas retire so he can appoint younger far-right judges? Or all the civil rights laws his new majority will gut? I know I can't wait.

Don’t blame constituents with a conscious, take ownership of your bad policies.

@@houdiniwho I'm still waiting for third party voters in 2016 to take ownership of Brett Kavanaugh, Amy Coney Barrett, and Neil Gorsuch. I'm waiting for them to take ownership of the stupidity and bad policies that made COVID so ruinous to our country. I'm waiting for them to take ownership of the demise of a woman's right to choose and the near-total evisceration of voting rights.
And if they screw us over again in 2024, I'll be waiting for them to take ownership of Trump abandoning Ukraine to genocide by Russia and abandoning Armenia to genocide by Azerbaijan. I'll be waiting for them to take ownership of the imposition of a far-right court that will force us all to live under right-wing rulership for decades to come. I'll be waiting for them to take ownership of the massive tax cuts for rich people and corporations-- even bigger than the ones they should be taking ownership of from 2017.
But they won't take ownership. They'll be too busy patting themselves on the back for their "conscience" while the whole world suffers for their bad choices.

What a quote by Mehdi” You can make billions but that doesn’t buy your decency “.
the moment you know it`s gonna be GOLD conversation before you even click play
This is a great YT channel! Thanks Mehdi for this channel and content!
I agree with Naomi. It's across the board causing so much unnecessary suffering to enrich the corrupted .
The whole conversation was as usual excellent. For me the big takeaway was the discussion around the suffering in Gaza being used to normalise future suffering in the context of climate breakdown.
This can never become normal.
He could be asking for a billion from every company, and they would still make profit from it, it's insane
Great to finally hear a left-leaning media outlet even mention the recent extreme weather damage on the gulf coast and TX/LA. And great to finally see Zeteo cover the climate crisis. Great interview!
TX/LA?? What on earth is that?
Yes we are truly experiencing the shock doctrine in the UK
you also have a nearly outright two party system, which doesn't work anywhere.
Great discussion...so glad Naomi is part of Zeteo.
Why not immediate action against Netanyahu America stop killing innocent civilians
Bravest people so respected for their honest reporting
Brilliant conversation!!!!
Super weird to hear Naomi ask if it sounded too much to say the #1 thing she’s been the most spot on about for ages: the reason the project in Palestine succeeding is so existential to the powerful elite is because that was the plan for handling all of us in the future as the planet falls apart.
i love those two persons .. so smart and opening new horizon for better way of thinking and seeing the world : nature + humans
Brilliant!
Thanks to Mehedi and Naomi for connecting those dots....
Thank you both for a thought provoking conversation...❤
Yeah Mehdi there are Dem congressional speaking, PLEASE expose the CONSTITUENTS that are SILENT AND COMPLICIT 😤

The assessment of climate change and war is well done and on point. The wasteful will use the earth like it is unlimited but this strategy will not last. It’s not only an injustice for the global south but for the generations to come (rich or poor). Not to mention the (domesticated or wild) animals that live here to.
Thank you Zeteo ❤❤.
Voting for Jill Stein.

Panama currently has to evacuate some islands because the sea levels have increased enough to pose a threat to the people living there. At least one of them is HEAVILY populated.
Strong men don’t need cars to show their masculinity! They can show by helping build houses for the homeless- habitat for humanity. Remember the Marlboro man…where’s he? Now Marlboro man pays damages for lung cancer! We need more social conscious ads that show drilling and empty oil wells taking us back to stone ages!
The jug goes to the well until it breaks.
Damn. Incredible convo.
I wouldn't concede the concept of muscle cars to the right. Remind them that union labor makes most of them!
Some very interesting analysis. You two make a very informative presentation

23:20 - This was covered amazingly in the video:
Segment: "War on Nature" - From Culture in Decline #4 by Peter Joseph
Skip to 1:23 for the actual bit, but the video's less than 3 minutes total (though the series is obviously longer and possibly still worth a watch, despite being 11 years old now).
Where precisely is the boundary where the ‘economy’ ends, and the ‘environment’ begins? I don’t think these distinctions are practically useful, or analytically accurate. So restricting ourselves to ‘economic’ costs is nonsensical, when the economy is embedded within the earth and climate systems. The value of civilization existing within stable conditions, and the web of life being ‘fit’ to its environment, surely exceeds the value of the economy many times over. They are literally priceless.
Well, you'd think, but the world is run by rich people
Not to worry any of you or anything. In 2026 the START Treaty is up for renegotiation. You really think Trump should get anywhere near nuclear weapons treaty? We all see how well Trump's middle-east peace plan is turning out.
Scary future. Thank you.🙏
Modern war does nothing if not disrupt climate. Nordstream was filthy. Nuclear war feels nearer than in 1963. Israel is War. Why not?
Always have to look it up. Is this the crazy Naomi? Nope, nope, this is the cool one. Why is my brain like this?
Speaking about „masculinity“. With my new electric Mini I would easily outrun all muscle cars, if I wanted to with a sound reminding me of Star Wars Podracers. And it is even powered with PV-electricity. So you may even do the right thing in a „masculine“ way if this is so important to you. You should be willing to try, though.
Thank you both 🙏
Ok nice talk but what is the plan I see everyone talking about but no plan?
Good lovely lady. Every one wats t savethe world

Has Trump paid his half billion dollar fine or a bond to guarantee it while he appeals? If not, why?
What would YOU (anyone) do with a billion dollars? I’d start by giving each person counted in the United States census two million dollars apiece.
8:19 citizens United.
I don't think Naomi Klein is a "liberal."
Well if you perceive liberal as supporters of Geno, then I proudly disengage from being called liberal.
Fuck capitalism
Wonderful videos and great conversations. We need them.
Speaking of climate change, how much do you guys fly around the globe every year Mehdi and Naomi?
Naomi is not a guy.
Do Mehdi and Naomi use private jets? (I don’t know)
If so, you have a valid question, as these are the worst polluters, but it’s not a strong argument (Greta doesn’t, by the way, yet she is still criticised, so people are being disingenuous there). The nature of their work often requires that type of transport and visiting countries around the world.
Comercial flights are bad but the real problems we have are in manufacturing and fossil fuel production and animal farming (I’m not vegetarian, just making an observation).

It would be amazing if we could hold the left, the right, and the billionaire class accountable to create a system where everyone has free healthcare, education, housing, and a $27 minimum wage. We also need to stop the environmental destruction, make big oil pay, and preserve what's left of our planet to ensure we can all enjoy affordable housing. 🌍🏠✨
What left? Stop trying to make out that left politics contributes to this. It doesn’t.
Just to be clear, if you are talking about the USA then both parties are right of centre.
Because Democrats are at the big oil table too
I'm certainly glad to hear a holistic approach to our lives as Naomi is offering. I don't agree with her, though, that capitalism is stupid. It's the individual capitalists and their individual interests who are creating unsustainable situations. Capitalists are not a class as we are part of the working-class - even though their interests seem to be a unifying aspect to their movements and help us to understand those movements. Even while professing unity they are ready to destroy the competitors and their representatives at the drop of a hat (GNP), if they can - and they do. The idea that "they" can think collectively for the good of the planet or good of populations is white-washed nonsense. Capitalists generally can only be concerned with their own, individual, short-termed interests and their "practical" considerations as to how to instantly stop-gap any crisis. Long-termed solutions of ongoing problems (upon which capitalism is thriving) is a class problem - of the working-class - and requires class-solutions which, in turn, require a class-mentality - human-class.
The GDP of NewYork City was $1.2 trillion. I suggest that aside from all the destroyed lives and furtherance of hate in the world, the war on Gaza more than equals this amount of New York City's yearly budget. It would cost less to help the Gaza-ens to govern peacefully and productively than does inflicting a war upon them. Similarly, the climate collapse must also be encountered in a unified way. As long as the government - any government - allows its lawmakers and their law-making abilities to be purchased by individual capitalists representing "capitalism" none of humanity's problems can be solved.
Naomi accurately reports that the individual capitalists are only interested in their short-termed profits. Relying on opportunistic individuals acting - let alone leading - movements of change is more than just naive.
It's like a baseball-team "buying" players and coaches to win the championship this year. Is this really then the "New York" Yankees or just a collection of expensive and detached athletes from who-cares-where under contract to produce some winning statistics. Do I love them for this? Do I love the sport due to this? Honestly, following, watching and supporting my local basketball-team in its efforts against other local teams is much more satisfying - regardless of whether the team wins or loses. They are my team and are representing me in my (no longer available) abilities and desires.
The old slogan of "Make love - not war!" is as true today as it ever was. This is not what a capitalist does nor should/could/would we ever expect this of him/her/them.
Watching from Yemen.

are you kidding me? she talks about the V8 302 but the future of ford is electricity mustang engine..our muscle car culture is 0-60 and 1/4 mile on the strip. Of a course...302 sounds like heaven but people who can experience electric engine that goes 0-60 in 2 - 3 sec the jaw drops. Also, to have a V8 go anything near what electric force can do you have to pay for that. If this was the 70's yes..mustang, charger, camaro are the king but today the fastest cars are electric and the cost is not reachable. I don't know how true this is but I heard you can buy a new BYD that does 3 sec 0-60 under 10k..if something like that was to be available in our country mustang would be considered special edition in terms of limited edition that's built limited quantity and will cost maybe 100k and up which we already do within our gas cars. also, when it comes to sound..when a car guy experience something such as V12 or V10 our V8 would be a lawnmower. Its just not the same era as MTG tries to put it. Offer her a german electric 1out of 5 500k thousand dollar super car next to a mustang GT and film her which car she would pick..its obvious none sense. The future within the car culture is and always been electric motor. Tesla is still the most sought after car if one can afford it but we dont think about it because it just cost too much.
