This entire strategy is based upon the assumption that criminals will only steal the most expensive items. Although logical in its own way, this is simply not true. Shoplifting in gas stations would never have existed as a crime if it were true. Workers at adult novelty stores report that specific brands of dildos almost never sell yet get stolen far more often than the dildos that people want enough to pay for them. It's a complicated thing, the inside of a criminal's mind.
