Can't find anything specific anywhere..giving here a try. In the movie of this.. the Sutherland character Devlin..he gets a job as a "marsh warden"? If I have that right..what exactly was that posting during the war in England? I can find the Lord Wardens info but that ended many years before ww2 so was there like an air raid warden but for like the land areas posting called this? It bugs me there's no info anywhere lol
I found this, and it sounds about right to me (based on my guesses and expectations, that is) - "A marsh warden is a person who manages a marsh, protecting its habitat and preventing trespassers. Marsh wardens typically have strong ecological knowledge and practical skills in wetland management. They may also be responsible for liaising with the estate that owns the marsh." In the book of 'Eagle' it states that there had been no marsh warden since 1940, which I think suggests that rather than the position involving any wartime duties, it was a post that had been considered non-essential and left empty due to manpower being diverted to the war effort.
Listened to this many times over and it's still a fantastic tale.
One of my favourite books, great adaptation, listened to this whist cooking Christmas Dinner! 😊
Don't miss the sequel, The Eagle Has Flown, made with the same lead cast...
Excellent play thanks for uploading.
The sequel, "The Eagle Has Flown", will be on the channel in a couple of days...
Fantastic movie adaption from very good book ❤
The sequel, The Eagle Has Flown, was also adapted with the same cast - that's on the channel too.
Thank you ❤
If you like this one, the sequel will be on the channel in a day or two...
Fantastic play
Good that the village of Cley in Norfolk is correctly pronounced, albeit the yokel accents aren’t very Norfolk.
Brilliant thanks 👍
Brilliant. They all flow together seemlessly. Thank you.🇭🇲🇮🇩👏
A brilliant listen
Don't miss the sequel - 'The Eagle Has Flown' - also on this channel...
In a word. Brilliant.
Don't miss the sequel, The Eagle Has Flown, produced with the same cast etc - also on this channel.
Substantially better than the film, well acted and nuanced, thank you!
The same cast (including Jack Higgins) also adapted the sequel, which I've uploaded and may interest you.
