    i was literally thinking the same thing about the 80s coldwave/post-punk sound w the soft focus. it's kinda what sold me on it since my current rig is based on the chameleons (songs like view from a hill, swamp thing.) or bethany curve (songs like jettison and long beach) maybe i'll do a video on it

    I have this pedal and love it! It’s so funny you did this video in space because whenever I describe my favorite music which is Indie, Dreampop, Showgaze whatever you want to call it, I always describe it like I’m floating in space or that I would love to just be floating in space listening to this music with headphones and probably never want to come down

      When I shared my video of cover songs, somebody said my music reminded them of Spiritualized, which I had never even realized but unconsciously know they have hugely influenced me, because this is one of my favorite songs: ua-cam.com/video/iB7E1D_3Na4/v-deo.html
      PS. I am currently working on my first dreampop album (original stuff, not covers... also incorporating some shoegaze, slowcore, hauntology and hypnagogic pop) Stay tuned!

    Thanks for the review. I bought my FX500 in 1991 and wrote tons of shoegazy type songs before I knew what shoegaze was. It just lends itself towards those sounds. I'm glad Catalinbread made a pedal to simulate the soft focus but it is definitely not the same. Sounds nice though.

      From what I read the Catlinbread is missing the delay part of it due to the DSP not having enough memory, so you have to use your own delay pedal to add to it.

      Also the Catlinbread pedal is mono. Which is ok if you’re just running to an amp. But if you’re trying to get the maximum deliciousness in studio recordings from the excellent Yamaha chorus effect, you need that stereo out!

    Did you record the FX500 direct to the interface or through a guitar amp? Thx!

    • @theaudioastronaut
      @theaudioastronaut  5 місяців тому

      DI directly in... I am actually ampless, and use Amplitube (or pedals) for amp simulation when recording... when playing live (tiny venues), I feed them into a clean JBL portable stereo PA system
      For several of the examples, I used Amplitube in Ableton to simulate Marshall or Vox amps

      @@theaudioastronaut How did you connect the FX500 in stereo? I want to have the best sound results.

      @@serenorocha I use a Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 recording interface, which has 6 mono inputs (but I just now got a new 4i4 today! Fewer inputs, but it's a newer generation)
      Do you want my 6i6? I'll send it to you for free if you DM your address and live in the States. (if you don't, then the first person who says they want it, gets it!)

    Catalinebread Soft focus or Keeley Parallax?

    • @theaudioastronaut
      @theaudioastronaut  Рік тому

      I haven't tried the Parallax, but I have been very underwhelmed by the sounds of other Keeley soft focus pedals (Loomer and Realizer)

      Get a Roland Super Chorus (or the Warm Audio CE-1 clone for the more vintage analog version), and run a good reverb + delay into it. Roll your own version!
      Honestly I love the FX500 chorus, which is the soul of this sound, so I recommend the real thing if you don’t mind having to send signal to it from a switcher (it doesn’t have FX on/off unless you can find their matching control pedal).

      The telecaster is tuned to FACGCE, and then they are simple 2-finger chords as shown at the 11:07 mark. I learned them from Trevor Wong... check out his video! ua-cam.com/video/CV-lrw6uNXA/v-deo.html

    Ruh-VERB, never heard it said that way before.

    • @theaudioastronaut
      @theaudioastronaut  Рік тому +2

      I think a lot of people get tripped up because the Reverb app / resale site pronounces it as RE-verb, probably to emphasize the "RE" as in reuse/resell/retail etc. (so I try to emphasize the first syllable when I refer to my REverb store)... but the word "reverb" is short for re-VERB-erate. I don't personally think there's a right or wrong way to say it... but, for what it's worth, Google dictionary (Oxford dictionary) pronunciation guide audio clip puts the emphasis on the 2nd syllable like I do: www.google.com/search?sxsrf=APwXEdeRPzMDM2q4EJzEv5OtnRr7WDEHPw:1680135000562&q=how+to+pronounce+reverb

    • @sub-jec-tiv
      @sub-jec-tiv 8 місяців тому

      ‘Reverberation’ = Re-VER-beration. However most people pronounce ‘reverb’ “RE-verb," as it’s become its own word irrespective of its source.
