The people who did the restoration claim that the original soundtrack on the master film copy was not good enough for DVD release. Clipping & distortion were cited as the two main problems. I've seen the VHS version and yes, there are a few instances where there is some obvious degradation of the audio track, but, it would've been nice for them to include the original mono mix as an option. The problem with that is all political. Ron Halicki is co-writer on most, if not all of the original Phil Katchiturian songs. The Halicki family was embroiled in a pretty bitter court battle over Toby's will against Denice. Because of the way things were handled, I get the impression that there are some behind the scenes legal issues going on with rights and royalties with the music. It's all politics and bullshit. If the Halicki family still had the movie rights, we would probably have gotten the film as originally intended.
It’s the same jump. The reason you don’t see it spin in the full speed version is because it happens to outside the frame. The car was only jumped once.
You too, I grew up in Torrance! Most everything has changed since then. I remember seeing the original car displayed at Moran Cadillac on Hawthorne blvd, near 190th street. I have no idea where the Mustang is now?
I took my VHS version of Deadline Auto Theft (GISS with the extra Hoyt Axton scenes) and made an MP3 so I could mute the remastered sound. Then I reinserted the original sound so I'm probably the only person that took the time to make a DVD with original soundtrack. The cleaned-up picture is only enjoyable with the original soundtrack. I bet Denise has stopped telling people the remastered soundtrack was her idea.... Everybody loathes it.
I firmly believe we only saw release of the original film in 1999 so that she could "cash in" on what she believed to be rightfully hers. She pissed away Toby's millions in a monster court battle against Toby's family and rumour has it she DID approach brother Ron and Phil K. to SIGN OVER THEIR MUSIC RIGHTS to her so she could release the film as it was supposed to be. They obviously told her to pound sand. But you wanna know why I think she was in it for the money? Well, there was a ton of stuff around the turn of the century in regards to the film and it's restoration and release and then NOTHING. She's done NOTHING for the last 20 years and we've seen hide nor hair of her and probably never will again. If she lives long enough to see Ron & Phil's music rights enter the public domain, which is like, 75 years from 1974 so.... theoretically, in 2049, they might be able to release the film with original music. But who's going to care by that point? Also, there's an unseen "first cut" of the film which we could consider as the "Director's Cut" of the film. It was submitted for MPAA approval only for them to give it an R-rating. Something to do with all the dirty pictures in the Halicki Workshop. BUT, that's not the only difference.... the entire first half of the movie is in a different order with a BUNCH of scenes that were dropped from the subsequent release.
@theo1250 lol my grandpa gave me his origina VHS when i was 5 and i have to say it is my most charished possesion, when they remastered it with the new sound track i cried a little bit, the old music truly made that movie what it was, and not to mention all the car sounds from eleanor were the actual sounds the car was making not some digitaly added sounds to make it more "modern" I gotta say denise really muffed up that whole thing
@theo1250 I have the vhs version but don't know the date I have had it a long time it is one of my favorite movies . I wish I could find a dvd of it. It has all the soundtrack but don't knowif it is remastered of not don't remeber where I go it . All I know is they do not make movies like this and the original vanishing poit any more/ I have an original vhs of that too
if I can find the time I might see if I can do that for you.I'm an old hotrodder by heart and I love car movies that are real , not the fake can't be done ones. All I like is things that actually be done in a car.
If you have it on VHS, it should have the original audio. The only DVD you'll find is of the remastered one with the sucking audio and editing. If there's a way you can make a copy of your VHS into a DVD, I sure love to have one I've been looking to get one in my hands for years! Let me know. Thanks!
Does anybody know where to find an original VHS or DVD of this film but with the original soundtrack? I got both movies the Nicholas Cage and 1974 original "remastered" which honestly sucks in soundtrack.... I wish Halicki's wife would release a original remastered but with original soundtracks... even the old school sirens were removed! that takes away the feeling!
I sure love to do the same with Gone in 60 seconds. But I don't have the original audio. Are you planing on sharing some how your edited Deadline AT? Just let me know because I definitively like to have a copy... Thanks!
I could do that to Gone in 60 sec if I had a VHS copy but I haven't been able to find one. Let me know if there's a way I can get a copy of the one you made out of Deadline A.T. I would really love to have it. Thanks!
It was a specially prepared car. Full NASCAR spec roll cage, ultra-heavy duty suspension and tires, the entire unibody of the car was reinforced and Toby actually had to be BOLTED into the car.
The jump that almost crippled H.B. Halicki for life.
Almost? No, no. It did.
Better than the jump at Long Beach bay bridge. ..and no CGI !

This video is of the first jump. The car spins out. The second jump and the car continues on. One tough Ford. It still exists!

I loved the original movie filmed where I grew up. This song is great too.
You too, I grew up in Torrance! Most everything has changed since then. I remember seeing the original car displayed at Moran Cadillac on Hawthorne blvd, near 190th street. I have no idea where the Mustang is now?
I love these songs of the original film soundtrack Gone in 60 Seconds especially Big Town, Big City from Phil Kachaturian.

When it came out we were told by the media (Holland) that this movie wasn't approved by Hollywood. So it must have been an independent film.

I can't believe the beating Eleanor took 351 Cleveland FORD BUILT TO LAST

I loved this movie before the nic cage remake, a cult classic
when the car did not respond to the correction , he should have brought it on arond it would have saved time
its not worth it, just give the owner the money for the mustang. and dont wreck 103021302 police cars
Им чего, делать не чего, как гоняться за одним уб-ом?
