      Crazy how odd it is to see him having a good time performing. Usually seems to be just going through the motions, physically, at least. His vocals and delivery are usually on point, but here and there he actually seems to be enjoying himself, cracking a smile and even chuckling

    Wow! No, really WOW! Van is possessed of intense spirit and talent that he uses to take the band and listeners live and years later on an unforgettable transcendent experience. I'm astonished this only has 21,466 views in May 2021 from Aug 2015. What? I believe every soul up there felt the same that playing on that stage and those songs with Van was the honor of their lifetime.

    This is another one of Van Morrison's classics...Wavelength; another one of my many favorites.

    What a lively and great performance! Great music and voice from him during this time. He sure looked great here, and happy. Love the smiles from him.

    In 1979, what a fantastic sound Van had with backup singers, Katie Kissoon & Anna Peacock!

      This is 1978, and early in the American edition of the Wavelength Tour. In 1979, the band added Toni Marcus on viola, Pete Wingfield on keyboards, Pee Wee Ellis & Richie Buckley on sax. However, Anna Peacock had left the band, so Katie Kissoon assumed the female backup vocals. Still a great band, but not as Rock & Roll as the '78 version.

      @@jcmgt ~ Herbie was with Van for the 1978 Wavelength Tour. From my front row balcony seat, on Monday night October 16th at Boston's Orpheum Theater, I had a birds-eye view of Herbie's right arm slashing away on that acoustic guitar, like a scythe in a wheat field. Indeed, Van introduced him as, "Herbie Armstrong on rhythm guitar", as if it were all one word.

    Van jumping on stage to connect with an audience??? The music, of course, is true to form and expectation--in a word, excellent. In another, alive.

    This is from 1978, the "Wavelength Tour". Probably at The Roxy in LA. Warner Brothers released a 33 rpm vinyl lp live show from same venue, recorded on November 26, 1978. I don't believe this is that particular show, but could be the early/late show on same date. Van did two shows per night on this tour, which was his downfall on Nov 2nd at The Palladium in NYC. I was 6th row/center when he dumped the mic stand over and did an exit-stage-right halfway through "Natalia" (which was also mid-set). Pissed me off big-time, because I had hitch-hiked nearly 300 miles to catch this show. Eventually got over it, though. Have seen him perform live about 20 times since the infamous night. Oh, and to credit of Bobby Tench, he picked up the lead vocals on "Natalia" without skipping a lick on his Les Paul, and the band finished the song. The band started the next number, "Help Me", but soon aborted with no lead vocalist (Van did not return), and the goons jumped up on the stage as the crowd booed (not a one louder than me). Funny, but I remember thinking how much that Sonny Boy Williamson II song sounded like "Green Onions", when played as an instrumental. Quite the Wild Night on East 14th Street. Come back baby, come back. Let's talk it over...one more time.
    Nov 11, 2021 UPDATE ~ This vid was shot at the Cocoanut Grove in Santa Cruz on October 1st, just prior to the beginning of the Wavelength Tour. Santa Cruz is about 65 miles south of SF.

      I was in NYC at that time and totally remember that.
      He had such a rep for doing that to the point I didn't want to buy a ticket and chance him walking out, lol! (I regret thinking that way now! Tickets were ridiculously cheap back then, what $5-10, if that?)
      I just saw him twice last month, and he gave absolutely fabulous performances!

    • @acousticshadow4032
      @acousticshadow4032 2 роки тому +1

      @@seaglass8940 Actually, Van's rep for such antics was established long before November 2nd of 1978 (the 2nd show, I might add). By then, he was much more professional. I think the passed out Rockpile fans I crawled over to get to my 6th row/center seat (my ticket was for last row), pushed him over the edge.

      @@ShunyamNiketana Imho, yes ... hadn't toured for 4 years, and his manager, the inimitable Bill Graham, had him do two shows per night. Again, just my opinion, but I think that schedule eventually weighed on Van, and he broke.

    Superb band. Joy and enthusiasm along with great talent. Sadly the great Pete Bardens is no longer with us: first saw Pete as a 15 year old (me, not him) around '64 in a band called The Cheynes: they had a lanky drummer who was barely able to fit on our youth club stage, bloke called Fleetwood. I believe he's done quite well for himself. The guitarist here is the ever delightful Bobby Tench: he had quite a hand in the production of the Wavelength LP. Last time I was in London around 3 years ago, he was still having fun playing in the Alan Price Band at the Bull's Head in Barnes. Hopefully he still is. Next Price gig is Nov 10 2022.

    Van Morrison really knows how to put a group together! i especially like the way he has female backup singers. The two in this video are a delight to watch and hear! It's like he makes room in his songs for his own feminine side. There are countless songs where women singers have added a wonderful touch to the sound.
