The thing is in contaminated atmosphere or very dangerous area you can still do it. Plus there's the variety, with the increasing availability of smart weapons it's very possible that missiles can be a viable option to kill other things than tanks , i mean in fire and forget or bvr. So having a launcher that you can feed on demand with whatever fit the task is neat.

You're definitely right about the caliber. They already have a large variety of ammo for it, like APFSDS and proximity fused HE. It's the same cartridge from older 57mm guns and can also fire the old APCBC and regular HE ammo. Additionally, there is a planned "smart" shell with guidance fins.
