Nicely done video, I have the same gun and was able to zero the sights at 50y, but got the scope mount and put a 2x7 on it. I took a sow with it this season. I love the Wolf but id most likely get the Optima if I had a do over. I always use 245 powerbelts with 100grs pellets; its a tack driver out to 100y.
You should try using federal premium borlock their 270. Grain shot my deer at about 30 yards double lung ran 30 yards went clean through very accurate overall just a better sabot
My 50 cal also jumps which is a huge turn off. It's fine in the LedSled at the range, but in the field it's another story. I ended up buying a CVA LR-X in 45 cal and it is a literal tack driver compared to the 50. In fact, I got my very first buck in nearly 25 years of hunting with it last season. I don't usually chase bucks as I'm a meat hunter, but this one came in unexpectedly. I don't know that I'll hunt with the 50 anymore.
Could it be that it needs one pellet for 50 yards or less , 2 powder pellets for 50-100 yards , and 3 powder pellets (if this is an magnum) for 100+ yards ; to make the iron sights more accurate ?
CVA Wolf is a GREAT muzzleloader. Do your part in cleaning, and finding the load it likes and it's super accurate. IDK how many deer mines taken from 100-300 yards
Are there any websites that show which Walmarts still carry guns? I thought for years that they had all gotten rid of firearms, but I found one in Florida last year that still had a full firearms selection. Not just black powder but centerfires too.
Black powder barely ever leaves blood, especially those powerbelt bullets. Hornady sst or Barnes expanders give the best result in my opinion, hitting shoulder is important if the shot is available. Also you should have got a jag with your muzzleloader, buy some wet black powder patches and at the range run one back and forth on the jag every shot (u can get away with every 2-3) it will make it more consistent and easier to load.
I was having horrible issues with getting this rifle sighted in. After a ton of swapping rings and remounting scopes. I found a review with my same issues. I shoot the white hots and hornady sabots. After 2 shots my 3rd was 6-8 away every time. I did as the review and cleaned after every shot really good. My rifle 100 grain powder and 250 grain hornady sabots shoots hole for hole with a vortex scope.
Same problem with the same wolf. Shoots high. I bury the front sight in the cutout of the back sight. Problem now is the firing pin cap that screws out to clean the pin had a burr on it and won’t screw back in. I’m trying to contact CVA BPI. Website says customer service is down until Jan 9. 😢
I LIKED YOUR VIDEO. YOU WERE PERSISTENT AND YOU MADE IT HAPPEN. REMEMBER, JUST BECAUSE YOU GOT A GREAT PRICE ON IT, DOESN'T MEAN IT WILL NOT PERFORM. COST AND VALUE DON'T ALWAYS EQUATE. THAT CVA WOLF WILL FILL THE FREEZER AND TAKE ANY DEER, BLACK BEAR, MOOSE, OR ELK IF YOU ARE IN RANGE, HAVE IT LOADED PROPERLY, AND HAVE THE RIGHT BULLET PLACEMENT. YOU MAY WANT TO EXPERIMENT WITH SOME OTHER SABOTS AND PROJECTILES. GUNS HAVE PERSONALITIES LIKE PEOPLE, AND THEY DON'T ALWAYS LIKE THE SAME AMMO. I GAVE THE SAME GUN WITH A SCOPE TO MY GRANDSON AS HIS STARTER MUZZLELOADER RIFLE AND I AM EXPECTING HE WILL DO WELL WITH IT. CARRY ON!!! SALUTE!!!
For I guess over 30 years I've use mostly. cva muzzle loaders. they put meat on my table and outher tables also. I don't remember how many cva bobcat 50 cal I've owned and gave as gifts. my main load for all these years is 80gr to 100gr pyrodex with a green saboted hornady 44 xtp 180 gr. this was a most devastating bullet at these speeds in the vital area. I also used sierra 44 jhc 180 grwhich were more devastating. Especially neck bone shots. I don't recommend using the sierra on front neck shots if planning to mount the deer at times let's say extensive damage. as devastating at 100yd as in front of you. I've tested all kinds of loads but I always go with the xtp jhp.papa wishing you. 😊
Could paid little more got the combo. I have the CVA Optima V2 50 cal Long Range rifle. Topped with a Leupold Ultimate Slam 3x9x40mm muzzle loader scope. With 84 grs of blackhorn by weight. And a Hornady 250gr SST bullet. Mine will shoot a 1/2 inch group @ 100 yds. Call CVA they will take care of your issue.
I went with my daughter to her hunters safety course. They had some guys come out to teach black powder safe. I went to Walmart and bought the cheapest cva bobcat 69 dollars shot it once. Got a buck 15 minutes after season Opened. First shot. What fun.
ive done a lot of shooting with black powder. a lot of experimenting with loads, bullet types and weights, etc, modern inlines are not only engineered for but meant for 150 grains of powder, even though 150 grains are by far needed. Actually believe it or not by increasing thed powder charge it pushes the bullet faster, increased velocity will flatten the tragectory thus bullet im pact will be lower from 0-100. In my flinter, for hunting, i shoot 95 grains 2f with a 405 grain maxi. Id shooting competition i shoot the same maxi but 50 grains 2f. i have to bottom out my rear sight and hold 6 oclock because it shoots way high. at 95 grains i have to raise my sight because its really low.
I own the same rifle but I put a scope on it and it is very accurate. I also used those same bullets on a does a couple years ago and it obliterated the lungs but fragmented into a million pieces. I have since switched to Federal Bor-lock.

I used to hunt with one of the cheapest single shot 243s have to say just as effective as my most expensive rifle today ! Owned a Wolfe muzzle loader and made great shots with a cheap cabela scope now I have the accura it’s super accurate
Rlly love this guy bc he matches my energy wnd he doesnt have a corny southern accent and rrly entertaineng guy
"Walmarts cheapest 50. CAL" - thats whole 'merice in 4 words
The fact that you can just buy this with no drama and go hunting on public land is true freedom.

@09:54 Never a time, when some necessary required hunting related item has not been forgotten! Such as hearing protection. Have yet to forget ammunition.
My Wolf 209 loves Powerbelt 295gr Hollowpoints with 100gr Triple 7 powder and its center at 100yds .......but its also has a scope on it !!
You should try using federal premium borlock their 270. Grain shot my deer at about 30 yards double lung ran 30 yards went clean through very accurate overall just a better sabot
I've got the same gun with the scope mount. Tack driver!!!
Great video. I was in the edge of my seat hoping you got her
My CVA hated powerbelt bullets but it shot Hornady FPB 350's touching at 200 yards with 10" of drop
Dang!
Take a file to the front sight
@ the sights are tru glow from cVA. Thanks for the thought.
When he shot that doe, I could smell the gun powder through the phone 😂
sorry for stupid question, but do you prepare animals by yourself or using butchers?
Both, usually myself
Is this model optics ready ?
They work okay with a patch round ball if you're in a pinch
Great video and congrats on the doe
First shot. What fun.
Those powerbelts don’t expand. I used them for a couple years and got frustrated, went to SST and the blood trails where great
That cheap CVA is much more modern than the muzzleloader I hunt with!
Flintlock??
@@RipnStikOutdoors It’s a bolt action in-line I believe. ua-cam.com/users/shortsvVBMIt14F8M?si=PxDWwUW63Fea0nCS
@@RipnStikOutdoorsidk how to explain it but ur head is out of proportion to ur body
@@RipnStikOutdoors He probably uses a regular caplock
Adjust your powder charge .That will help with sighting in
You got so many deer in your area me and my uncle go hunting
I could never get my wolf to shoot accurate with power belt bullets. I changed to TC super glides and it made all the difference
Good job👍
I got a Ruger came with a scope and it's awesome!
You can’t use a light for frog hunting in pa. Perhaps it’s in another state though. Good luck this season.
I know...maybe we could get thay kaw changed???
What was your powder load? one of the things that can lead to too high a shot is too much powder and to light a round
ive done a lot of shooting with black powder. a lot of experimenting with loads, bullet types and weights, etc, modern inlines are not only engineered for but meant for 150 grains of powder, even though 150 grains are by far needed.
The wolf is an awesome muzzleloader!!!
CVA Wolf is a good and cheap beginners inline rifle!
The hornady SST 250g shoots even better than the power belt out of mine and I have the same cva and love it
wait, can u buy 50 cal bullets just from the shelf in walmart in america? wild lol
Awesome video great determination u got done👍
You are brave, seated up there!
I love your vids man keep it up
I love how he whispers into the camera then proceeds to shoot a literal hand cannon at the deer hahahah
I own the same rifle but I put a scope on it and it is very accurate. I also used those same bullets on a does a couple years ago and it obliterated the lungs but fragmented into a million pieces. I have since switched to Federal Bor-lock.
Bro I feel you about the squirrels eating the seat out of it. Also the sights are a pain especially the open sights on those unless you have an old cva hawken rifle
What state are you in? I haven't seen a single Walmart that sells firearms down here in Florida
NY
That question answers itself its Florida of course they ain't gonna carry/sell anything fun
These aren't regulated as firearms in most states so even walmarts that don't have an FFL might carry them
@@redtra236 It depends from what i've read that only applies to "antique" muzzle loaders or replicas of the antique muzzle loaders not the modern ones you buy at walmart i could be entirely wrong
@@fintherebel5000 You are mostly wrong, you can mail order these with no background check in most states. HOWEVER what you said may be the case in some states but under federal US law and most state laws they aren't regulated as modern firearms. For a while like 20 years ago the ATF tried to regulate inline muzzle loaders as modern firearms but it got overturned in court.
Somewhere in that bush a squirrel has a nice comfy nest packed with foam from your seat lol.
I have the same gun. I was tired of the synthetic black stock so I bought a custom walnut stock for it and then laser engraved the butt and fore stocks..cost as much as the gun new lol
Lol!
I'm from the UK so know nothing about guns, how come the deer did not see the bright orange hi-vis waistcoat and hat the hunter was wearing? Can deer not see Orange?
Correct, looks brown to them. They are colorblind
@@RipnStikOutdoors Thankyou for confirming. What if it was red or hi-vis yellow etc? Is orange the one colour they struggle to see? Also I hear deer ticks are real bad over in some counties now, is that right?
@@cheekarp2180 orange is best, then red. Not sure about yellow. I know they see blue very well, so don't wear that.
Today I learned four things. 1:Modern muzzleloaders are a thing. 2: Porcupines climb trees. 3: He missed. 4: He hit.
Two pellets max I would also suggest handling the powder with tweezers incase your hands are sweaty
I bought the buckstalker was 1.5 inch high at 50 yards dead on at 100yd out the box
Where is the link you said would be in the description?
I don't know and I haven't hunted with a muzzleloader in years but it seems like that was a pretty hot load for that gun and I yeah great Job
It’s about 100 grains which is typical. Magnum is 3 pellets
Nice button buck
