Can i ask a question as someone who really knows nothing about band? Why does the band have 2 directors/conductors (not sure of the proper term) facing each other? What is it for?
The people you are talking about are drum majors , they are students who are part of the band that hold the highest leadership position as a student. When a band director is in front of the band conducting the song, the drum majors spread out around the band and face him to help keep tempo for the people who may not be able to see the director (like the other comment stated.
