It was great seeing my grandmother store "Mrs Millon" rather people called it "Millers"...across from Washington school and also see my great uncles stores" Bobs" and "Sykes"

I lived there in the mid-60’s to 1970. My dad was the pastor of Good Shepard Lutheran Church. I went to Garfield and my siblings to Proviso East. I LOVED Maywood and was very sad to leave. When I saw Misicka’s in your video, a huge flood of very happy memories filled my mind. It was the ‘go to’ candy store! There used to be a old man who made homemade root beer and had a stand in front of his house. Maywood was really the only happy time in my childhood.
Thanks so much for posting this!

I was born in Maywood in 46. Grew up there, Garfield/Lexington/Garfield, Proviso graduated in 1964. Left for military service and never returned. My dad owned A. Fox & Son Lumber Company on 1st Ave and the Great Western RR tracks. My whole family went to Good Shepherd Lutheran in Maywood until 1960. We changed because we were not happy with Pastor Kissling. You dad must have replaced Kissling according to your time frame. The Root Beer was Strutzel's Root Beer, best I have ever had. Misicka’s store was always a favorite. www.chowhound.com/post/strutzles-sp-root-beer-110834

@@AZAFVET What a delight to read your reply to my post! You REALLY made my day!!!!!!!!! Yes, my dad was the pastor of Good Shepherd after pastor Kissling. He took the call to Maywood leaving Lincolnwood and Trinity Slovak Lutheran Church. Maywood was just so charming and a beautiful place to grow up. We were only there until April of 1970, then off to New York City. Talk about shock! It was a rough neighborhood in Queens and I got beat up every single day. Thank God for the memories of Maywood. It was heaven on earth!

@@silverblue571 I was born in 46 and lived in our house @ 2121 S. 7th Ave until I graduated from Proviso when I joined the Air Force... My dad owned the A. Fox & Son lumber and millwork company on 1st avenue a couple of blocks south of PEHS. He sold it right about the time you were moving to Maywood. I got married while in the Air Force and after discharge in 68 me and my bride lived with my mom and dad in Maywood for a couple of months until we got a place of our own. It was a different time back then, my grade school sweetheart and I could catch a bus to the Forrest Park CTA station and ride the train down to Chicago and to the various museums and never had a problem. We had dance classes at Garfield and we would go from the school to one of the restaurants on 5th ave for a treat afterwards and then walk home without fear. Good memories growing up in Maywood, and still friends with some of my school mates that I found on the Facebook Garfield and Proviso East pages. Glad you had a good childhood while in Maywood as well. Cheers!

Anyone know anything about 216 n 2nd ave. My people moved in the late 60s, bought the house from an Italian man named Henry. I was born in 1977and raised there, went to Lincoln school on 9th and Chicago ave, then to Proviso East. I'm back with wife and kids, and they are doing as I did, same schools same neighborhood. I just wanted to know who was here before us. The house is from 1908, if only walls could talk, the stories they would tell. Hope someone can fill in the blanks. Three generations of maywoodiens going strong.

My dad was the optometrist whose office was in the Lido theater building on 5th Avenue. I went to many movies there. I graduated from Proviso East on 1968. I recall Strutzels root beer plus the Bataan day parade on 5th Ave, which occurred every year in early fall. Many memories. I walked through Maywood after school to my home in Melrose Park across from Jane Addams school.

It was great seeing our music studio at 820 S. 5th Ave. The previous one was at 308 S. 5th. It may still be a methadone clinic. Our house next door had a fire 2 1/2 years ago. It was the 2nd oldest house in Maywood built in 1868.

George Robinson’s “Standard” gas station on Washington.
Ronnie Cox and Joe Norman’s Phillip 66 on Madison. My bicycle traveled between those two places constantly. (Would stop by the Shell station too.)
That Cock Robin was on Lake? Up the street from St. Paul Lutheran?
    Amazing…
We headed to Atlanta too soon.
(19th and Randolph for us. A few doors down from the Curry Family)
