In 1982, I took a weekend study course with an Ivy League graduate teaching study skills. It changed my trajectory. He taught all of these skills. Flash forward 15yrs. I’m teaching math to special education 8th grade students. By applying these skills I was able to help them learn the concepts and get As and Bs on quizzes and tests, increasing their confidence and seeing them do homework because they got it in class. (No home help) How many times do we criticize students because they have no help at home and don’t have a one on one to walk them through learning the new concept. Even disruptive students focused when they realized they could be successful.

That's amazing! I wish I had learned these study skills at that age. Sadly, I didn't learn these methods until after college. Better late than never, but I wonder what my trajectory could have been if my school taught these things. Learning how to learn effectively should be in a student's curriculum.

@@bhill-biznessprofessionals what’s interesting was I studied but didn’t seemed too. I graduated with honors. I offered to show my sister and friends how it worked and they shrugged saying there were fine. They were convinced I was just super smart, I’m smart enough for college but no where near super smart, lol.

@lamdafinity yes, lots of materials and worksheets I used in college. Most are now available for free on the Internet. Everything from Block schedules, Cornell note taking, test taking, study methods, tips to pick classes, buying textbooks cheaply and more in a 3-ring binder of everything we learned. When I retired in 2015, I got rid of all my “teaching stuff.” Remember this was before the Internet.
