Some years back we visited the Monmouth battlefield one fall day, and also visited the cemetery at the Tennant Church. In front along the walkway, there is also a burial site for unknowns. I forget how many are buried under the bricks per the plaque.
Please correct Tennent Church is in Manalapan not Freehold. Manalapan High School is right down the street on Church Lane. I grew up in Manalapan and my father took my brothers and I to Tennent Church many times. Church used to be open to view on the Fourth of July. Yes, church pews do have saw marks and blood stains. Also church roof on to be repaired because of a cannon ball going through it. There also was a button on the outside of the church ( by door) when button was pushed it had a recording talking about the revolution war. Don’t know if it’s still there. Many British soldiers died of heat exhaustion because they wore woolen uniforms in the heat of the summer battle. Also Pastor Tennent’s house is on Freehold/ Englishtown Rd. In Englishtown there is an Inn where George Washington stayed. Lots of history in that area. Thank you for bringing attention to this beautiful church.
13:03 on that tombstone you said like 2 Conover's 5 covenhovens I belive they are all my grandfather's name Couwenhoven Or van; town of, Couwenhoven Netherlands The name was changed to Conover The other is an alteration Wolphert g van couwenhoven
I'm wondering if some of those magnificent old trees there might be witness trees? Also, the walls of the church must have many musket balls embedded within? This was very enjoyable, thank you...
Dad was cemetery super in the 1960's and early 70's and I grew up there. We maintained Old Scots Burial Ground in Marlboro as well. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Scots_Burial_Ground
Many of my family is buried there. Some were military some weren’t. My uncle that died at 10 months old is buried there on top of my great grandfather. When my grandfather died his ashes were placed on top of his son (my uncle), as is his wife (my grandma). I would love to be interred there.
I grew up about 30 miles from Freehold. I remember going to the Old Tennant Church and Monmouth Battlefield on a class trip.
Thank you brother ❤

The place in Shrewsbury was real too. Because ghosts are real. Spirits are too. Peace.
I wish we could have seen inside. This building has all of the new world dutch characteristics and forged hardware.
Great tour and it used to be that this church and cemetery were technically in Tennet, NJ now I guess its renamed Manalapan.
Awesome video!!! I love this place! I’m releasing my video on Tennent in a couple of weeks and I always love learning about it!

Not sure about the musket balls. Church was used as a hospital in the aftermath of the battle. Blood-stained pews!
I am reading John Thormbury's biography of David Brainerd, which is how I learnes of this church and stumbled upon this video.
My Dad is buried in that cemetery
