    Medium-hot take, but I got Mavericks winning the west. I see their aura. Luka and Kyrie both have the iq to challenge Denver, and they both do impossible things and rise to greatness under the brightest lights. And right now Gafford and Lively feel like 2 Aaron Gordons.
    One other hot take: Pelicans and Clippers switch seeds and Pels squish them like beached jellyfish. I’m rooting for the Clippers, but they’re clanky. The oil in their machine ran out. Still though, go clips 🤞🤞

    we need to remember that with the injuries and the tougher schedule before Allstar break Mavs record be better. The last factor is now that Gafford is in the lineup and Lively there is rim protection and rebounding. The Mavs have won last 4 games shooting 40% field and 28% from 3pts. These are games the Mavs would have lost. If this team is shooting at their normal % game over. It’s a new team with changes that were made. Big issue is what to do with Hardaway?

    Hot take: The Cavaliers are going to be disappointing this post season once again, not because they don't have the talent or because of choking, but simply because if you look at the good teams of the past few years, the only championship team that had a small-ball lineup was one with the two greatest shooter of all-time and Dray. If you look at the top 6 seeded teams this season they are all big teams, often running double-big lineups. And to me what really reinforces this is the playoff flameouts and overachievers of the past few years. Miami are huge, the raptors were huge. Last year the teams that won a playoff series against higher seeded opponents were the heat, who's starting lineup have an average height of 6'7, the Knicks with an average height of 6'6, the Warriors who are once again outliers and the Lakers who had and average height of 6'7 across their starting 5. And if you look at the last few champions and leave out the Warriors (which you can still see the trend if you keep them in, it's just less potent) then this is even more visible.

  • @HalfAsianDerp
    @HalfAsianDerp 2 місяці тому +2

    Just want to note something for the Miami Boston series if it happens. Brown and Tatum will continue to get exposed by Butler and Spoelstra, they will be turn over city, Jalen still can't dribble and Tatum will struggle with consistency as he always has. Three point variability in high pressure games is a factor, especially for a team that relies on them so heavily. Butler exposed Jrue Holiday last year, and we're all familiar with his inconsistency in the playoffs. Porzingis is injury prone, it's a miracle he's avoided injury all year, I'd be surprised if his body holds up against 2 months of physical playoff basketball. Just some factors to note

    It is disappointing to hear how dismissive so many people are of the Suns. They dealt with minor and dumb luck injuries in the form of back spasms and a broken nose for Beal and a hamstring pull to Booker. And because of that everyone says they are a fake contender. Yet when their big 3 play they are one of the best teams in the league.
    People don’t do this when guys like Kyrie, Embiid, or AD miss regular season games. They are always quick to say something along the lines of ‘when healthy nobody can stop them so you can’t look too much into their regular season record’.

From what I have seen from talking heads, UA-camrs, and comments, people tend to lean towards labeling the Lakers as a “threat” or a “contender” in the playoffs regardless of the regular season record which is often not as good as it would be if AD was healthier. And they do this because we all understand that with a healthy AD the Lakers historically are a genuine dangerous team. Same with Kyrie Irving and Joel Embiid for their teams. But the Suns have been getting written off this season due to injuries despite h the e fact that they are very good when their big 3 play.

    If the Mavs had better shooters they'd be the clear 2nd team in the West. Sure, the defense could be better but more consistent shooting outside of Luka and Kyrie is a bit more important imo. They did beat the Nuggets the other day with everyone but those 2 going an abominable 0 - 13 from 3 but winning a series with poor shooting isn't sustainable

    What if they traded Ingram and Herb Jones + pick for Garland and Mobley.
    Cleveland would have mature team with Spida Okoro Herb Ingram and Allen and Pels could take a step back and give it 3 more years of development with Garland CJ Murphy Zion Mobley mainly when you realize CJ and Valanciunas are almost at the end of their primes and you have guys like Hawkins ready to play out

    The dark horse of the East are the knicks if they were to get both Randle and OG back. Who knows if they get back though? Plus the 76ers getting back Embiid back would be huge. Bucks have 21st ranked defense, Mavs 22nd ranked defense and Lakers 23rd ranked defense. People get so admired by the 1-2 punch of stars but you gotta play good defense too if you seriously want to challenge for a championship. I don't see much competition in the west that could actually compete with Nuggets, Wolves (assuming Towns comes back) and Thunder.

    Luka is an amazing player, and I have a little bit more hope for the Mavericks than I did earlier in the season, but I still think the pelicans will probably be a little bit more successful because they have a more well-rounded team. Although Luka is amazing, they’re still the factor that when he’s having a bad game, he really struggles to refocus. It’s not as bad as it was in previous years, but it’s still an issue. And as you said, he takes too many errant shots that he should not take. If he took less three-pointers and worked to drive it in the lane or get Kyrie more involved, I think the Mavericks would find more success. There have been moments in this season where Luka has shot them out of games. Granted that’s more so Tim Hardaway, Junior doing it, but Luka does that as well. And in my opinion, they need to give Jaden Hardy more minutes and Tim Hardaway, Junior less. Overall, I agree with you about Jason Kidd. I’ve been saying it for a while. we had false hope on that Western Conference finals run, thinking that he was competent. we’ll see what happens, but I don’t foresee the Mavericks making the conference finals again because of Jason Kidd.

    I see why the Mavericks would be considered a dark horse. Luka and Kyrie are a dangerous combo... offensively, and the "Lob City"‐esque connection that they have with Gafford and Lively is important for them. However, I look at the fact that they are still bad defensively (19th in defensive rating pre-All Star break, 25th since then). I look at the fact that Jason Kidd is still (widely considered to be) a poor coach. I look at the fact that their offense relies on Luka and Kyrie mainly, and either one of them could have a bad night, as rare as that may be for Luka. I look at the fact there is a chance that they could lose one or both of their play-in games even if Luka and Kyrie do play well. There are reasons to like the Mavs as a dark horse, but all of the people saying that "nobody wants to see the Mavs" need to relax.
