    Yeah... I'm concerned about people getting them, not knowing what they're doing and keeping them in too small tanks and too warm and dirty water.
    Until recently I thought axolotyls were expensive because they were rare but recently I learned that because of them being popular in captive breeding they're like $20 USD - I was like, oh, that's kind of concerning.

      @@Emma-zs2zu same thing happened with guinea pigs…. I hate pet “trends”

    • @hugebigpenis1
      @hugebigpenis1 3 роки тому +8

      The cheapness is more related to the ease of mass breeding axolotls, there is issues with them being cheap as individuals people think they are a cheap and easy pet when the bulk of the expense is getting the tank and gear and such. Though this pet trend is making me worry people in the Americas will be helping the poaching trade unknowingly.

    • @KittyKraftStudio
      @KittyKraftStudio 3 роки тому +1

      @@hugebigpenis1 @Glitch Yeah I saw they just put out a TON of eggs and they seem easy to breed, I just didn't realize how many people were breeding them and the cost had already gotten so low. I think that actually means the remaining wild axolotyls are unlikely to be poached - it's not really worth it and they're not in the lighter colors that a lot of people prefer.
      But yeah, most of the cost is in getting a proper setup, maintenance, and food.
      So the axoltyl is only $20, but to keep them properly you need at least a 20 gallon tank (a lot of people just buy a 10 gallon because that's easiest to get, jut pick it up at Walmart for $11), you need to know how to keep the water clean, you need to buy proper food, you need to keep the water cool (probably can't be done without a really expensive cooling unit if you don't have AC and live in a warm area).
      This is pretty much the same as with any cool water fish, but a lot of cool water fish (especially goldfish it seems) are also kept in bad conditions because people don't invest the time in research or the money in an appropriate setup.

    I don’t like pet “trends”
    Because of minecraft little kids want to buy axolotls, their parents allow them to and they might not have enough money so they don’t properly care for them and don’t give them enough attention. Then when the trend dies down the kid looses interest since they don’t do much in the tank. I want to say that it really ain’t minecrafts fault because they added them in to spread awareness but they should of added a disclaimer like “ do not own these as pets if your under 13” “they can’t go above water in real life”
    It’s like what happened with guinea pigs. They got popular and little kids were keeping them in pet store cages and not caring for them because they just saw them online and wanted ONE ( not a herd only one guinea pig which is not good)
    I have 4 guinea pigs right now and they are in a 5 by 2 c&c cage and I am very lucky that my parents allow me and understand the proper care. I first wanted them because my friend had them and when I looked after them I fell in love and I did a lot of research and I got 2 boys for Christmas and I must confess since it was my first time they lived in 2 “big” pet store cages connected with a tunnel because I thought that it ment they had a big cage. But please stop these pet “trends”

      I first noticed them when the ones in Minecraft came out, I had never heard of them before and thought they were quite cute little creatures. I did more research on them and found a lot of amazing facts about them and thought they were very interesting. Now I am obsessed with them. Not because of Minecraft (or well a little because that’s where I first saw them, but I didn’t know what they were) I am getting one because they seem really cool and interesting and adorable too. I absolutely adore them and I don’t care about the Minecraft axolotls, they sure are cute in Minecraft too but that’s not the reason I want them. They truly have my heart with their little teeny tiny hands, and I have done lots of research on what they need and how to take care of them in the best way possible. Even if Minecraft was the reason I found them doesn’t mean it’s the reason I want them. But I understand that there are some kids that want it just because of Minecraft and they won’t be able to take care of it properly. I think they are really fascinating and I’m probably gonna get one in the middle of autumn somewhere when I am able to take care of it.

      It's a honourable idea, to add animals into the game bc they're endangered, but making them tameable/ watered down n makes them seem like easy pets and creates this trend of wanting to own them, similar to how jaws created massive phobias to sharks when most species are harmless and the aggressive species only bite by mistake or curiosity.

    • @toastedbread1362
      @toastedbread1362 3 роки тому

      @@jaaaaaacccck Huh, I didn't know that about sharks. That's actually interesting and I'll probably look into that more when my computer is charged.
      On a related note, I think it's more the parents of those kids fault. It is honorable, but I think Minecraft axolotls are too common and easy to catch. In my opinion they should make it harder to have one in game, and have information on the real animals they include. Trends might still spark even with this, but I think the information part at least could discourage some or make some look into it more.
      As someone who used to (and to an extent still does) want every animal they see, as a younger kid, sometimes the main thing on their mind is "animal i like/think is cute, I want!" from there the parents should say no or educate. Pets aren't something people should by on a whim. Research is needed. Minecraft wanted to raise awareness, and while that's commendable, I think instead they unintentionally sparked immature adults or young kids to want to impulse buy axolotls. I think it's sad. Especially as someone who has researched axolotls, and now does research when I come across pets I want. At the moment I can't get one, but when I move I'll revisit to see if it's ideal then.
      With kids impulse buying, I think the main issues stem from parents not saying no or informing. I get that the kid would be sad/disappointed, I was hella mad when I was told I couldn't have an octopus at age nine. But not now/do research first doesn't mean never. And I think that's what younger kids still need to learn/are still learning.
      As for adults/older teens (like 15-16+) that's just immaturity and I just hope they'll realise what they got themselve into and at least try to give the axolotl the care it needs.
      Anyway, a lot of people see pets and think it's a cute friend forever, without realising animals have inidival personalties and care requirements. It's sad, it makes me sad. I hope the trend ends soon so people who can't care for axolotls aren't buying them and so owning an axolotl isn't reduced to "inspired by Minecraft" and i hope the younger kids who want one can grow and learn. Ah, this is long my apologies, just wanted to add my thoughts and didn't know where to start, I'm not the best at wording things.
      Thank you for that shark fact, I genuinely had no idea they were rarely agressive and bite mostly due to curiosity and mistake. Definitely have to look into that later. I love animals and enjoy learning about them. Hopefully anyone who wants a specific pet will share the same or similar view/process.

    I just get sad seeing some comments seeing them saying they did buy an axolotl just because of Minecraft and not doing any research I got really sad, I saw someone saying they were 10 and bought one because of it and it made me mad because first of all why do you even have an account? I’m pretty sure to have an account you need to be 13+ and you or your parents not doing any research and just going on Minecraft just makes me mad…

    I love how Minecraft added Axolotl's in all, but it really does encourage kids to impulse buy them and I've noticed it a lot recently. I'm just glad people are doing their part on trying to help educate them, so thanks Soda! My friends younger brother, who is around the age of 11, recently bought 2 Axolotl's without doing any prior research. His tank is not the right size for two, he uses small pebbles which can be easily eaten by the Axolotl's, and he has also has no filter and no light as of what I know. From what my friend has told me, he already wants to start breeding his Axolotl's. I tried to warn my friend, telling her the right requirements and for her brother to simply watch a few UA-cam videos or something, anything to educate himself. I just hope he can realize what he's doing wrong before its too late,
    I remember seeing their fish tank, the tank had no filter and no light, the tank was green and had not been cleaned in weeks, probably months, and the fish barely moved, it was sad to see them like that. I just hope the Axolotl's won't turn out the same.
    The same thing happened with his guenia pigs, they were practically wild, he had 2 outside that lived in a small hutch under a trampoline, and he would often forget to feed them. Not long after they got killed by some dogs.
    I forgot but there's more... they have an aviary outside full of budgies, they won't stop breeding and they keep having to make bigger cages. They also recently bought love-birds who also live in an aviary, and they plan to breed and sell their babies.
    Sorry for the rant, it's just sad to see how younger kids can treat their pets.

    question that you might know the answer to and might not
    in minecraft axolotls will fight things, like if they’re in the ocean they’ll fight drowned which are basically zombies but if they can’t fight it like they thought they play dead
    do they actually do that or is that just minecraft?

    Here’s to hoping more people start doing research before getting axolotls. They’re really sweet creatures and they deserve to be in the hands of someone who knows what they’re doing. The thought that my Mochi could have ended up with an owner who impulse bought her is so upsetting to me :’(

    I would love an Axolotl and have wanted one for over a year, but I honestly don't think I could provide the proper care for one based on my failed fish keeping in the past so I'm unlikely to ever get one as I don't want to get an animal I cannot properly care for.
    Instead I'll stick with Reptiles and possibly try again with fish as I was 12 the last time I had fish and I'm now 25 so I've got a lot more knowledge on fish keeping. Who knows if I do successfully keep a fish tank I might get an Axolotl in like five-ten years time.

    I use to always watch videos of axolotls when I was younger but never knew the name of them, I once asked my mum if we could get one but she said no. Then recently my brother was playing minecraft and showed me the new update log thing, it said axolotls and it came to my head that I thought I had heard it somewhere and decided to search them up. I laughed and realised these were animal I had wanted for a while and here I am getting two in about a week.
