Amazing video, you’ve just earned a sub. But I just don’t get it, why do these R160 trains go to some yard after their last stop? Why can’t they just stay running on the N, Q, and W lines? Why did they get switched to R46 trains instead? As far as I know they used to run on the R line, and now the R160 trains are running on the R line, I’m happy about that, but I do not like the fact that the R46 trains are replacing the R160 trains and now they’re rarely on the Q, N, and W lines. Why do R160 trains end up going to some yard after their last stop?
R Train goes to 96 St during AM Rush only 1 Train then it turns to a Q back down to Coney Island then gets taken oos back to the yard then R start service at 36 St Sometimes the R160 Q will go back up to 96 St for extra trips, if there some mechanical problems for the SMEE’s.
I believe @AKG Matt is correct, I didn’t put it in the video cause I was unsure but I believe that’s correct. I will try to do a video on that in the future
This R160 Q train that you see here is the 96 St bound R that comes down as Q to Coney Island at around 8:10 am during the week. This R160 is then used for the 3:30 pm (ish) R put in at 36 St to Forest Hills. The MTA could actually run those 59 St R Trains that end during the AM Rush for service on the N, Q and W but those trains have to be back at Coney Island Yard for PM rush R put-ins. In addition, this single set can also stay on the Q, but it has to be back at Coney Island at 2:30.

Nice Video! My home route is the Brighton Line, and I use it a lot. Love to see these still thriving (barely 😂) on the Q!
