      We do enjoy going down the river in a canoe or kayak. We didn't this time as we had never been to this park and didn't really know what was available. But now that we have seen it, we will certainly look into renting a canoe next time we go. It was nice to have the barebeque pit to cook on site at our yurt. We had a great weekend. Yes, we were sort of roughing it for the weekend. I was glad we had a bed and seats and a table. But I certainly would have been more comfortable with electricity and running water. But we ended up having a fun adventure in spite of the lack of modern day amenities. I would do it again since Jack really enjoyed the experience and I ended up having a nice weekend. We side with Alice and the animal bones! We would be fascinated by seeing all the bones LOL! The journal at the Yurt is cool idea! The heat inside the Yurt would drive us nuts!

    • @trvlnthru
      @trvlnthru  3 роки тому

      Those bones really were fascinating. And they had all been picked clean. Like it was parts of an animal (or animals) skeletons tossed about along the trail with all the rest of the body completely gone. I was trying to figure out what animal (or animals) left behind these bones and what might have happened to them. But Jack cut my investigations short. The heat in the afternoon was bad til we opened up the flaps and let in a breeze. I would imagine it isn't pleasant on afternoons in July though. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

    ooooooh. this is like Glamping! Lovely area and loved the history of the early settlers. Alice, skeletal remains are interesting! Fire places are generally the last things remaining. We will be Glamping in Tassmania later this year. Glamping is glamour camping. Great accomodation. EEEK! Spider. The Italian restaurant seems lovely. Sounds like you had a lovely stay. 10:36 is that you Alice? Thank you Alice and Jack for another great episode.

    • @trvlnthru
      @trvlnthru  3 роки тому +1

      Glamping really is a great word for this. It was almost like staying in a tent but we had more room and (most importantly) we had a bed. It was great adventure. The fireplace from the cabin ruins was fascinating. I wanted to know the story behind it - how old was the cabin, what happened to it. They should definitely prepare some signage to explain. Yes, that is me sitting by the fire around 10:36. I look pretty rough after a long day in the woods. But that was me. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

    It's a beautiful place. We never been in that park and I never stay in a yurt. I never stay in a tent either. I like the the animal bones you find. That was a long walking you guy did. 7 miles its pretty good for one day. 👌

      Yeah, we were pretty tired after 7 miles. I don't camp much (in tents or yurts). I enjoy a nice hotel much more. But Jack really wanted to camp and this seemed better to me than a tent since there was a bed. But we had a lot of fun exploring the park that weekend. The bones really were fascinating. Nice yurt but that would be some primitive camping. I haven't stayed in one but the ones they have around here that i've seen are pretty luxurious. Still looked really nice and like it was pretty comfy bed actually.

    • @trvlnthru
      @trvlnthru  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, I found some with electricity and running water but Jack was more interested in roughing it - but not too much. It rained a lot the first nighit we were there and had we been camping in our tent (which was our original plan), that would have been unpleasant. And we wouldn't have had a bed in our tent. It was very nice to have a bed at night. But yeah, I would have gone to a place with more luxurious yurts had it been solely up to me. But Jack said it would be an adventure and he was totally right. Reminds me of visiting my dad's childhood home, the 1st time we visited their was a shell of a house, the next visit just the fireplace! Yes, the cabin ruins were so fascinating. I wish they had posted some information about it somewhere. We would love to know how old it is, when and why it was abandoned. Were there any other cabins out there at some point or was this a solitary cabin in the woods? We even tried to Google it and find more information but didn't find anything about it. It definitely beats a tent in the grass but you are way more adventurous than I would be. I'm not high maintenance yet a bug and spider free environment is calming to my soul. A bathroom helps too. 🤣 I love the rustic outdoor feel in the daytime. The surrounding are beautiful. Wait, $75 a night?! 😳 It definitely makes for a great video review and experience.

    • @trvlnthru
      @trvlnthru  3 роки тому

      Yeah, it has been years since we broke out our tent. We kind of moved on from that kind of travel. But it was cool to try out staying in a yurt. Jack sold me on it as an adventure and it really was that. But it ended up being fun. Ticks are around in Virginia but we didn't encounter any on this trip (and never did all the years we lived there either - though we know people there who have). We even checked each other over for them each night of our yurt adventure and then again when we got back home from Virginia. But thankfully we were spared.
