    In this guitar lesson I'll be digging into the wonderful altered scale and how to use it over altered dominant 7 chords. It's not just for jazzers, and sounds really awesome over blues, rock, fusion etc., and can add some great outside colours to your improvising. A lot of folk are scared off by the potentially confusing theory that surrounds the scale however, so I'll be giving you 5 of my favourite ways of thinking about this - and (hopefully!) simplifying things along the way.

    Thank you for this great video. Cry me a River and Careless Whisper are great examples that I can use at once. Now check this out:
    Over Em7 play Gm7 Arp (gives you a minor 9 sound)
    Over A7alt play Gm7/b5 Arp
    And then resolve to D major
    You will find chromatically descending major thirds in the II and Valt Arps. I use that in Girl from Ipanema all the time, because there you have II V twice in a row at the end of the B section.

      I actually made a mistake there: over Em7 you play the Gmaj7 Arp. I’m sorry.
