It used to make me sad that 11 never got to see Gallifrey again (sure, the Doctor did, but not with those eyes), but he died knowing he was forgiven by his people enough to grant him a fresh regeneration cycle. I think that meant more than going back to a planet he always wanted to leave. He is forgiven, always and completely.

Okay, I absolutely love that moment (it almost brought me to tears the first time). Especially the swell in the music that makes you just light up. But, personally, I think the most triumphant moment in the history of the show happens later in Heaven Sent. The way the score goes when he's breaking the wall...Just simply gorgeous.
This was the perfect accompaniment to the Doctor’s last stand - you can feel that burning defiance through every second. What a loss Murray Gold is to this show.
To be honest, this probably has nothing to do with kindness on the part of the Time Lords. They know they need the Doctor to bring them back, so when Amy said he was dying they went "well we can't have that or we're all doomed. Throw some more regen energy at him."

I think Series 10 might involve him trying to find it for real. Also, it took me forever to realize that that one old guy was Rassilon. For some reason, I expected him to be the same actor as in The End of Time. I guess the Master forced his regeneration. Also, I forget, did they ever explain how the Master/Missy got out again? I think it was November when I saw Series 8.
Nope, they never explained how The Master escaped. Though she may have used the brief window of connection between Gallifrey and Earth in The Day of the Doctor and got out through the painting.

+shawnjrrox Nine's wasn't particularly explosive, but he held on long enough to bid farewell to Rose. So his wasn't that explosive. Ten, however, is an entirely different story. The reason why his was so explosive was due to the fact that he kept resisting it and holding it off so he could collect his reward by bidding farewell to everyone he traveled with at one point or another. When it finally got too much for him in the TARDIS he still kept desperately holding on until he literally could not contain it any more...which gives more weight to his "I don't want to go" line as his regeneration started. With Eleven's it's much simpler to explain - it was a new regeneration cycle for the Doctor that the Time Lords gifted him and as such there was a fuck ton of huon energy. Also remember that this was a reset for the Doctor so naturally it'd be more potent than the per usual. Also take into account that he directed his regeneration energy at the Daleks to save Trenzalore and there you have it. The actual regeneration in the TARDIS sometime later was a quick sneeze and thus, technically speaking, wasn't explosive whatsoever.
***** ...except the 9th Doctor released Time Vortex almost immediately after absorbing it into the TARDIS hence why his regeneration wasn't that explosive. 9 also held on long enough to say goodbye to Rose, so it really doesn't matter what you believe because objectively speaking there's a reason why 10's was more explosive than 9's.

Earlier this episode the music featured the "all the strange strange creatures" theme from Ten's era, maybe to make "this is Gallifrey" at 0:52 seem less out of place? Whatever the reason, both songs were very welcome, and made the Time Lords' entrance spectacular.
The thing I don’t get is that the eleventh doctor (in one of the sarah-jane adventures episodes), sarah-jane smith (I think it was her..) asked the eleventh doctor how many regenerations he had and he replied with ‘507!’. But it’s been apparent that the doctor has, instead, 12 regenerations, meaning there could be 13 incarnations of the Doctor before he’d need another whack of regen energy from good ol’ Gallifrey! Am I the only one who’s really confused???!!! Make your mind up BBC!!!!!!
Grant Walker He was joking in the Sara Jane Adventures episode. Ten used an extra regeneration, and there was also the War Doctor, making Matt the 12th face, but 13th life, hence having no more regenerations.

Earlier this episode the music featured the "all the strange strange creatures" theme from Ten's era, maybe to make "this is Gallifrey" at 0:52 seem less out of place? Whatever the reason, both songs were very welcome, and made the Time Lords' entrance spectacular.

The thing I don’t get is that the eleventh doctor (in one of the sarah-jane adventures episodes), sarah-jane smith (I think it was her..) asked the eleventh doctor how many regenerations he had and he replied with ‘507!’. But it’s been apparent that the doctor has, instead, 12 regenerations, meaning there could be 13 incarnations of the Doctor before he’d need another whack of regen energy from good ol’ Gallifrey! Am I the only one who’s really confused???!!! Make your mind up BBC!!!!!!
Grant Walker He was joking in the Sara Jane Adventures episode. Ten used an extra regeneration, and there was also the War Doctor, making Matt the 12th face, but 13th life, hence having no more regenerations.
