The most prominent place in Polk County is Des Moines, not Johnston. Also, the University Heights shown in the video is obviously not in Iowa, since palm trees do not do well in Midwestern winters.
@Joel Cortes That is North eastern Iowa and it is VERY pretty up that way. Cedar falls is 45 min from Oelwein but its a nice town w nice suburbs. I think its nicer than Waterloo aka Dirtyloo.. Most smaller school districts in smaller towns are better as the child to teacher ratio is much better.. Grad classes are smaller so teachers have more time to teach kids. Iowa is a nice state for a family. are u from Iowa? are u planning to move here? I've traveled all over Iowa w my rescue and lived here my whole life
WOW that is a hard decision as both are nice places.. . - I love my state but no lie- i'm sick of seeing corn.. and i am exhausted w snow.. I watch all kinds of shows on Utah all the time its a place id LOVE to visit but it gets way to hot for me and i know i couldn't travel some roads for fear of heights. also i like our dirt here In Iowa we can grow lots of stuff and have gardens :) and most folks are friendly cost of living isn't that bad either.. i think there would be more to do outdoor wise in Utah.. vs here in Iowa. but it does get hot there.. we get tornadoes. Utah may have better choice for young folks to have more opportunities in schools also.. Iowa is growing daily.. def not like it was in the 70's and 80's. Its very simple here..

I love to look at corn. Used to live in Maryland and I miss that wonderful scent of the corn when it's near time for harvesting. So, I'm looking at retirement locations. Do you have suggestions in Iowa and aren't overpriced, yet provide a sense of safety? I'd like to be near some kind of water (lake/river) and have decent walking trails/parks. Trying to stay more to the southern part of the state. If you have suggestions, I'd love to hear what you have to say. Thanks and happy 2023!
@@kayelane5868 any where in Iowa is a LOT cheaper than Maryland.. if i had my choice id go up to north eastern Iowa as the scenery is EPIC along the Mississippi river and other state parks we have. i would LOVE to retire in that neck of the woods. GORGEOUS.. Effigy state park, Pikes Peke, yellow river state park and many more. i have heard that keokuk in southern part isnt a good place to live.. and im not a real fan of the scenery myself but others may find it epic if they are not adjusted to Iowa.
@@kayelane5868 Ankeny Iowa is a nice community. Almost a travesty it isn't on this list. Next to a lake, low crime, all sorts of parks and miles and miles of bike paths. Ankeny is a northern suburb of Des Moines 20 miles south of Ames on this list. Better than Urbandale and Clive. On par with Waukee. Johnston is nice but housing is higher than Ankeny. Ames is a college town with college town size rents. West Des Moines is growing too. More crime there though. And it is either 450k houses or shit hole rentals in the Valley Junction area of town.

Clive is completely in Polk County. West Des Monies is in both Polk and Dallas Counties.
There is a portion of Clive, west of 142nd Street, that is in Dallas County.
