www.billytaylor... presents excerpts from the 10th Anniversary Concert of the Manchester Craftman's Guild featuring Billy Taylor on piano, Stanley Turrentine on tenor, Gary Burton on vibes, Rufus Reid on bass and Roger Humphries on drums.
Dr. Billy Taylor was probably the first jazz musician I saw perform live. A long time ago I attended some type of youth jazz concert at Carnegie Hall (1970's) I didn't really remember the concert that much, just that he was speaking and playing piano.
I saw Stanley Turrentine play soprano at a club across the street from my building.
That club, St. Nick's Pub, had a lot of jazz greats play there, including George Benson, Jack McDuff, amongst others, but it burned down in March of 2018 as part of a movie set. Now it's an empty lot with a memorial for the firefighter who lost his life battling the inferno sitting in front of the green fence that keeps people off the property.
Love Mr. T’s SOUND 😊
I MET STANLY YEARS AGO, NICE GUY / HE ASKED TO HEAR MY DEMO / THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFFE!!!! GOD BLESS HIS SOUL AND MUSIC !!! LOVE FROM NEMON THE PANDA MAN !!!!
Thank you Gentlemen for showing your love...the best play with the Best 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
All my faves together....what could be better. Listen to that bass. Gary Burton is one of the most astounding musicians in Jazz, and Stanley Turrentine is a legend . . .

Abso-SMURF-ly Great!
5 Straight Masters. My First Time seeing GaryBurton. Wonderful!
At least 2 of my favourite jazz musicians...
Heard it a thousand times, seemingly, but never like this! They seem to fly so lightly across the theme, however: precisely and imaginativePure delight :-)))))))) Thanx for uploading, J.V.G.!
I
I was lucky enough to be art the Craftsman's Guild for this anniversary and to talk with each of the performers after the show. It's a memory I treasure thank you for posting this.
Class!
Great musicians.... !!!!
Great performances all round!! I just love the tenor sax playing of Stanley Turrentine. Thanks, as always for posting this, Brett.
Wonderful interpretation.
Terrific!! I've been a professional jazz musician for well over 50 years. In all that time, this is the first time I can recall ever hearing Turrentine play straight-ahead Be-Bop.
Thanks much for this.
He and his brother Tommy made a recording doing straightahead Jazz.
Señores del Jazz todos. JAZZ SHOW....

Welcome aboard.
That's The Way You Look Tonight!
A great saxophonist who is no longer with us.
What about Roger Humphries? He ´s an unsung drum hero! Do you remmember his work with Horace Silver?
+Carlos Gonzalez Love his work with Horace and got the chance to hear him again in Pittsburgh a few years ago.
started checking him out recently
Hi there, is there a place where I can get this recording, please let know...wonderful concert
and by balance I mean just the recording's volume levels.
Great performance by great jazz masters. It's a pity that sound and image are out of synchrony most of the time. I'd agree that what's more important is the sound but the idea of watching a musical video is to enjoy the whole thing all together, isn't it? Just a comment; no offense intended.
07:42 - 07:46 not the most inspired lick we've heard :))))
Piano maybe should have laid out on G's solo.Never the less Burton was brilliant!!!
The Piano is too LOUD. The "Comping" is to punctuate behind solos. I thought that Billy Taylor would have known that. Let's blame the sound-person. Apart from that it was GREAT.
Hang the sound man?
the instrument balance in this video is terrible. having the featured musicians up front is one thing, but there's no rhythm section! well, hardly.
Awesome!
