That recorded background seemed to throw Tony off too or either he just was not feeling the song / performance because he was not at 100, but he gave it what he could and he got through it.

I saw a vid of them doing live acapella of I Can't Wait Another Minute. It's so funny that when they start singing they Tony tries to harmonize with them but can't because it's so bad...the camera cuts to a different angel and Tony is looking to the side (not singing) and they all laugh at the end...I'm sure he was embarrassed. I think he sounds good here but his face looks lazy as if he wasn't feeling it. Lol can you blame him.

I saw that clip you're talking about -- of Hi-Five a capella singing "I Can't Wait Another Minute." Tragic! I don't think I'll ever understand putting together a singing group when only one or two of the members can actually sing / harmonize. I'm quite sure Tony could have been just as successful as a solo artist from jump -- he and Tevin Campbell are around the same age, and look at how successful he was at this same time.

But you're right he has similar sound and equal ability...wish Quincy had found Tony too. They had a wack stage presence. Like they didn't rehearse this song just get up there and every man for himself. No choreography just discombobulation. Tony was basically a solo artist with 4 background associates.
IceManLikeGervin something might’ve happened behind the scenes, maybe management got word at the very last minute or they got there too late to even choreograph/rehearse. So far this is the only performance that doesn’t look as organized as the other live performances by them, and it’s also no secret that Tony was leading the whole time.

After Toriano Easley had to leave and Treston Irby came in to fill in the second lead as a baritone (idk why but the only time I heard him really sing or say anything was during their live performances). Hi-Five didn’t have a “Ricky” in the group who lead in any other Hi-Five song, to cover, and or help Tony on stage/studio vocally. So to me there wasn’t a saved routine for them even if they tried... in their Unsung episode they said they tried to get a member to cover for Tony while Tony had went solo for his album and the record label I believe told them that they had to have Tony in the group.

Idk if they felt like they were too grown for choreography, wanted to change their stage presence or image, or if it were a busy schedule but I still think they did fine regardless… at least they didn’t do no outlandish sh- on stage🤣

Well its obvious who the real singer was......Hell atleast New Edition had two lead singers and sometimes Ricky came in with lead vocals. Lol even with The Jackson 5, Jackie & Jermaine would sing. Tony was the group! If you have really listen to this song, his vocals are throughout on this song. Even the background vocals. I always thought Treston came into the group to help be a lead vocalist too...because before one of the original members got locked up, he helped with the leads. You exactly right, Tony was the group, period. He did lead and background vocals. That's why I feel that Tony earned the right to carry on the name and select who he wanted in he reformed the group. He shouldn't have been sued, they knew Tony was the only real singer of the group.
This performance always fucking baffled me because by the time it took place, the group had two new replacement members who could actually SING, yet they STILL had Tony carrying everything live and in the studio. Shannon Gill AND Terrence Murphy CAN SING - there's videos of them on Facebook singing (Shannon's attempt at doing the high solo in I Can't Wait Another Minute doesn't count. When he sings in his natural baritone/second tenor, he sounds GOOD). For God's sake, Tony brought Terrence BACK when he tried to revive the group in '06 and NOW Terrence is in a group with original co-lead singer Toriano....that should tell you something. This performance is disappointing because Tony, Shannon, Terrence and to a certain extent...Treston, could've ALL done this live (the jury is still out on Marcus, but they didn't need him vocally. Four out of five is still an A- or a B+ lol). They looked RIDICULOUS lipsyncing to Tony's voice.

Lawd, rewatching this and boy this performance was so unintentionally funny. Treston was a hot ass mess he had be on some stuff too the way he was up there sweating look like Bobby Brown he was flat as hell in the beginning then that LOUD whispering he was doing during @4:15. I know Tony was annoyed at how he had to carry the group. Terrance tried to save it he came in and kept on harmony with Tony and was actually sounding good. Marcus was lip-singing for his life boy head in the clouds the whole performance literally 😂😂. I couldn't pinpoint Shannon at all but he looked a damn fool with all that grinding. IceManLikeGervin something might’ve happened behind the scenes, maybe management got word at the very last minute or they got there too late to even choreograph/rehearse. So far this is the only performance that doesn’t look as organized as the other live performances by them, and it’s also no secret that Tony was leading the whole time.

After Toriano Easley had to leave and Treston Irby came in to fill in the second lead as a baritone (idk why but the only time I heard him really sing or say anything was during their live performances).
Hi-Five didn’t have a “Ricky” in the group who lead in any other Hi-Five song, to cover, and or help Tony on stage/studio vocally. So to me there wasn’t a saved routine for them even if they tried... in their Unsung episode they said they tried to get a member to cover for Tony while Tony had went solo for his album and the record label I believe told them that they had to have Tony in the group.

@@IceManLikeGervin I feel you, I seen a video of them on the same stage in the video performing “She’s Playing Hard to Get” and they did not do any choreography for that song even though they have before (which is funny)… and really they didn’t even have anything choreographed in the music video for “Unconditional Love” or any other music video from the “Faithful” album. Idk if they felt like they were too grown for choreography, wanted to change their stage presence or image, or if it were a busy schedule but I still think they did fine regardless… at least they didn’t do no outlandish sh- on stage🤣

Well its obvious who the real singer was......Hell atleast New Edition had two lead singers and sometimes Ricky came in with lead vocals. Lol even with The Jackson 5, Jackie & Jermaine would sing. Tony was the group! If you have really listen to this song, his vocals are throughout on this song. Even the background vocals. I always thought Treston came into the group to help be a lead vocalist too...because before one of the original members got locked up, he helped with the leads. Hi-5 still tryna sing adding new members, they need to just let it go...you either got it or you don't. They have had too many tragedies in this group. I love this song and the movie that the song was made for, RIP Tony your voice is truly missed!!!

+AnnaMae Camp That first album was already done and out, so Treston vocals are not on the album. He was added to the group afterwards. I don't even know why he was added when he doesn't do much singing and yes he did do talking in some songs. The man who added Treston to the group on TVONE Unsung made it seem like Treston was this good singer. Because it suppose to be he sang in church. But if he was this good singer why was Tony still doing all the lead vocals.

You exactly right, Tony was the group, period. He did lead and background vocals. That's why I feel that Tony earned the right to carry on the name and select who he wanted in he reformed the group. He shouldn't have been sued, they knew Tony was the only real singer of the group.
This performance always fucking baffled me because by the time it took place, the group had two new replacement members who could actually SING, yet they STILL had Tony carrying everything live and in the studio. Shannon Gill AND Terrence Murphy CAN SING - there's videos of them on Facebook singing (Shannon's attempt at doing the high solo in I Can't Wait Another Minute doesn't count. When he sings in his natural baritone/second tenor, he sounds GOOD). For God's sake, Tony brought Terrence BACK when he tried to revive the group in '06 and NOW Terrence is in a group with original co-lead singer Toriano....that should tell you something. This performance is disappointing because Tony, Shannon, Terrence and to a certain extent...Treston, could've ALL done this live (the jury is still out on Marcus, but they didn't need him vocally. Four out of five is still an A- or a B+ lol). They looked RIDICULOUS lipsyncing to Tony's voice.

Lawd, rewatching this and boy this performance was so unintentionally funny. Treston was a hot ass mess he had be on some stuff too the way he was up there sweating look like Bobby Brown he was flat as hell in the beginning then that LOUD whispering he was doing during @4:15. I know Tony was annoyed at how he had to carry the group. Terrance tried to save it he came in and kept on harmony with Tony and was actually sounding good. Marcus was lip-singing for his life boy head in the clouds the whole performance literally 😂😂. I couldn't pinpoint Shannon at all but he looked a damn fool with all that grinding.
