That Corkscrew ride ended up in Flamingo Land according to Wikipedia. When I went to Spanish City as a kid, I was too small to ride the corkscrew, but I rode it at Flamingo land...it was fun.
Wait in 1980's Spanish City had the same major ride as Alton Towers! I went there circa 2000 as a kid when visiting family friends and Spanish City was this tiny run down amusement area on the coast. I still loved it but clearly it was something special at one point
I don't remember being able to see the sea from inside Spanish City.... Don't know about the trees as it was a long time ago....probably built on by now though! Thanks for watching.👍
Love that ride. If anybody fancies a go on it nowadays you need to go to a small park in the south of France. Moved there about 8 years ago from Flamingo Land.
Braddazz' Travels. Thank you for your comment. I knew it had moved to Flamingo Land, but didn't know it then went on to France. Went on it a few times myself too, great fun!
Aye it's at a place called Luna Park in Cap D'Agde. It now goes under the name of Apocalypse. Got my info from the Roller Coaster Database (yes there is one for nerds like me :D). I remember hearing the corkscrew from my garden in Monkseaton on a clear day - the ghosltly whirring of it going up the ramp followed by loads of screams as it starts going round. Happy days.
We have brilliant beaches here but apart from a couple of amusement arcades there's absolutely nothing. Shame on North Tyneside Council ! Take a trip across the River to South Shields to see how it's done. Whitley Bay Town centre and surrounding streets are a disgrace. Worked on The Demon's Den ghost train one Summer and loved every minute.
Grew up in Whitley Bay in the late 50s and 60s. The Spanish City was the centre of my life back then! Great memories!
Used to work there about that time. I ran the octopus and occasionally the go carts. Happy days
“And girl it looks so pretty to me, just like it always did, like the Spanish city to me, when we were kids”
I wish they get the park back again... regardless of what the locals would say
Thanks for the memories David. Used to love this place. x
I remember The Spanish City at Whitley Bay.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.
brilliant video,
thank you good sir
Jeez! I was on this coaster in 1986!!
You may have been on it.... That wasn't that you screaming was it? 🤔🤭 . Only joking, no offence meant.
@@DavidGarside if the screaming sounds like a little girl, then yeah it probably was haha
Great video. I've just shared it (with credit) on my whitley bay memories group on fb
Thank you. I'm pleased you like it and I hope others do too. Much appreciated. 👍🙂
Thanks for sharing this is great to see.
Ahhh happy memories, my favourite was the Walzer, especially when the lads used to spin us girls....it was a sad day for Whitley when it closed...
God! There was a Corkscrew at Whitley Bay! They should have kept Spanish City as an amusement park, a classy one though.
As if that used to be there, couldn't even picture it when you drive past today
Yes, changed quite a lot round there hasn't it !

Yes, I remember it best in the mid 1960's to early 1970's. I have great memories of the Waltzers etc there as a teenager. Thanks for watching.
My uncle Ian used to work there.
Ian Fairbairn.
Really, where is the sea & where did the trees come from!!!

i can remember how gutted i was when they put the school there.
Wait so they replaced a roller-coaster with a school? Talk about buzz kill
Fantastic!!!!
Dire straits ❤
Judging by the song in background, "Hot hot hot" this would've been 1987.
Flamboyant Randomist. Yes, that is a possibility as we visited the Newcastle area every year. Thank you.
Oops David post is off me Christine not Mark hence the x.
I'm very relieved Christine! ☺️
the corkscrew was relocated to flamingoland and reopened there in 1983
Mackem88 Rail and Air Hub no way it was 1983 as I used to ride it at Whitley bay in the mid-late 80s
@@thabudmaster It was only at the Spanish City for a year or two before being relocated. This is what records indicate across various mediums.
Mark Bone well this video says 1986 & I remember going on it at that time. So you’ve gotta be wrong
@@thabudmaster and as someone else pointed out the song in the background of this video came out in 1987.. 😉

I remember in the summer of '89 riding the Demon's den when it broke down! I was about half way through when the car stopped. Bloody scary!
My uncle Ian worked there too, Ian Fairbairn.
