    I loved 10/0 mustad circle hooks...yes it's still tricky getting in a piece of Bunker chunk unless ur using the head

      @jimcarhart 6 років тому +2

      Pierce the entry/exit points in the bunker chunk with your bait cutting knife, run the circle through that.

    In Connecticut we are now required by law to use circle hooks when bait fishing stripped bass.

    In Md & NC it’s the law to use circle hooks on Rockfish & Red drum, Black drum and other game fish except Flounder, Crocker and they have to be inline circle not offset . Larry

      in NC that's for Pamlico sound only, the surf (Drum/Stripers) still permits conventional hooks ... though I use circle for the reasons outlined in the video and yes you need to adjust your "set".

    I use my spinning surf rod for it just don't use heavy leads if you use storm or hatteras sinkers you can use less weight then pyramids

    do you gap your circle hooks? if you don't what's the distance to the hook point to the shank on your hooks??

    I agree with rod selection and reel, people in general tend to shy away from using conventional reels because they are not educated as to the proper way of casting to prevent birds nest . I'm old school and bait fishing for large fish is directed to conventional setup and if people would practice casting they will enjoy going conventional.

    Nowadays in 2021, it pretty much the law everywhere (in the northeast) to use circle hooks when baiting for stripers. Anything else is no longer allowed, unfortunately.

    baitcasting rods are not suposed to load up as much as spining rods. that spining rod had a little bent in it which is the way it should and it will bent more on the cast because it loads up. it should not be like a broomstick.

    • @josephbergen1575

      My friend, If you cast that spinning rod all day long with 10+oz it is going to snap. He was very clear in his explanation of why HE uses conventional over spinning in the NorthEast. It’s true spinning/conventional load differently but for this application only a googan would use that spinning rod at 2-6oz. Get a life instead of trying to point out some irrelevant point like yours.
